I grew-up as a Christian Pastor’s Kid which surely was a struggle for me. Today I got this text from my dad about him performing his first ever same-sex marriage in his career at the age of 67 years old.

He’s been a minister in the United Methodist Church for over 30 years and I can assure you, this was one of the highlights of his entire 30+ years ministering.

He said, “It was one of the most meaningful things I’ve done.”

Changed hearts are possible! 💕🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Microsoft have made a boo boo and made a new exploitable security vulnerability in Windows.

If you create the folder c:\inetpub on a Windows PC - possible without admin rights - future security updates (and this months) fail to ever install.. so you can stop OS updates applying.

It’s been a busy stretch, but finally sharing my FOSDEM talk from earlier this year. I spoke about Thunderbird’s journey toward a unified, open-source design system that spans desktop and Android — and how designers (and curious contributors) can help shape its future. Check it out if you're into collaborative, scalable design in open-source spaces.

REMINDER: Your resistance goes faster, harder, and further without the use of ableist language. Fascists won't give a fuck, but a whole lot of folk who have been called 'crazy’, ‘insane’, 'stupid’, ‘idiot’, ‘moron’, and so forth hear you every time you do this, and make themselves a little smaller.

The same goes for body-shaming of any kind. It hurts your allies, not your enemies.

Update your vocabulary.

Recognise the picture? This year's LibreOffice Conference 2025 will take place in Budapest! Thanks to our members for voting for the location: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #OpenSource #freesoftware

Today during a meeting it was mentioned that the front-end for Firefox' main source code repository [1] was super slow because of... AI scrapers! Surprise surprise! The team had to go through quite a bit of effort to curb the traffic. Also, can you think of something more stupid than scraping sources hosted in a version control system by scraping the web front-end?

Amazon announced that it would use AI to help farmers in Aragon, Spain use water more efficiently.

That's the same Amazon that is using huge quantities of water for its data centers in Aragon, Spain

The same super-secretive Amazon that does its very best to hide its water usage figures from the public.

A big thank you to Radically Open Security for performing the audit and to @nlnet for funding it.

Radically Open Security has been a long term partner of #Conversations_im ever since they did the first #OMEMO audit back in 2016!

Recent audit: conversations.im/2025_audit_co…
OMEMO audit: conversations.im/omemo/audit.p…

A recent security audit of #Conversations_im¹ found that wildcard certificate handling didn’t fully comply with the spec.

Conversations was accepting *.a.example for c.b.a.example, even though wildcards are only meant to match a single label.

This issue has been fixed in version 2.18.0, now live on Google Play.

Some Mexico news:

President Sheinbaum and her lackeys at the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH - an ostensibly autonomous state institution) are battling with the United Nations over disappearances. The UN says disappearances in Mexico are "generalized and systemic." With no sense of irony, or apparent grasp on reality, the CNDH replied that, "We reject that Mexico is experiencing a crisis of disappearances and more so reject that these are the result of State policy." They then ramble on about foreign meddling making things worse. Apparently 124,000 disappeared since 2006 is something that just happens?

In an incident causing widespread indignation, on Saturday afternoon, a poorly built structure collapsed in strong winds at the international AXE Ceremonia Festival in Mexico City, killing two photojournalists. That was at 5:30pm. The show continued until 2am with no interruption.

The festival was to proceed on Sunday and authorities said they would close the venue after the festival ended. In response to outrage over the deaths and refusals by artists, including mi querido Ed Maverick, to perform as if nothing happened, they finally cancelled the remainder of the event.

"It was not an accident, it was negligence," say the journalists' union.

in reply to Scott Campbell

The Mexican government's battle with reality and the United Nations continued today with the Senate passing a resolution demanding the UN remove Olivier de Frouville from his post as head of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances for daring to propose that disappearances in Mexico occur in a "generalized or systemic manner."

Apparently what forces the State's hand is when some UN functionary says something approximating the truth.

Apparently they can't be bothered with the 124,000 disappeared, the extermination camp discovered in Jalisco last month, or their own vapid promises to take action after the fact.
