Today in Labor History May 13, 1985: The city of Philadelphia bombed the house of the radical black activist group MOVE. The police dropped a bomb made with C-4 explosives from a helicopter over the African American residential neighborhood. When survivors tried to flee, the cops shot at them. As a result, eleven MOVE members died, including five children. Furthermore, the bomb and fires destroyed sixty-two others homes in the neighborhood. Consequently, 250 Philadelphians became homeless. Adding insult to injury, the bones of some of the victims were transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where professors used them to teach courses on forensic evidence.
MOVE was a black liberation environmental movement. Many surviving MOVE members were still in prison as late as 2020. Mumia Abu Jamal, who was an associate of MOVE, is still in prison on trumped up charges of killing a cop. He is currently severely ill with diabetes and heart disease. The government has bombed civilians from the air several other times in history. The first was during the Tulsa anti-black pogrom of 1921. They also aerially bombed striking Appalachian miners that same year.

I wrote a blog post about rustls performance on the server for the Prossimo blog; rustls comes out comparing well to the alternatives, and we’re still improving it!
In past years, the Rustls project has been happy to receive substantial investments from the ISRG. One of our goals has been to improve performance without compromising on safety.
On the other hand that suggests to me that a C-project like curl would not benefit from this library in terms of performance and could just use aws-lc directly. And I doubt curl has any intentions of switching to Rust as the main language.
Rustls to me seems useful for Rust projects that want to implement HTTPS clients or servers. I do use it in one of mine, but kept using ring as the crypto-provider as it is a little easier to build and the performance for my projects use cases is sufficient.
@elrido comparing TLS performance is so much more than the crypto speed. OpenSSL and aws-lc probably run equal in a crypto test but AWS-LC drastically outperforms OpenSSL in TLS.
curl has experimental support for rustls since several years, there's nothing that prevents users to build curl with this.
Right, so in that case, when users build curl against the rustls library instead of aws-lc or openssl, they will under the cover use aws-lc-rs, which is a rust wrapper on top of aws-lc.
So what I then would be interested, too, would be to see a comparison of the performance of different uses of curl built with different TLS-backends. I would naively expect it to perform better when using aws-lc natively, instead of using the rustls -> aws-lc-rs -> aws-lc indirection. I might be wrong - and there may be other benefits to using rustls with curl.
@elrido rustls has a separate TLS implementation, it could certainly in theory be made faster than aws-lc. The fact that they share the same crypto does not make the TLS implementations equal.

@hnapel that must have been a long time ago. I worked with them directly already a long time ago now and I know they then did name resolving (and plugged that into libcurl in a funky way)

František byl v tomto ohledu spíše nečitelný, než že by to někam posouval. Posouvali to ti, kteří naskakovali na jeho mediální výroky (a já byl mezi nimi, když jsem to ještě s křesťanstvím myslel vážně). Ano, byl vydán jeden dokument Dikasteria pro nauku víry z roku 2023 trapně přešlapující kolem povolení žehnání lgbt párům, ale taky je tam jedno responsum Kongregace pro nauku víry z roku 2021, že to církev dělat nemůže, Je tam dokument z roku 2019 ostře se vymezující proti genderovým teoriím... V roce 2021 přidal František do kanonického práva nový zločin stižený exkomunikací "pokus o vysvěcení ženy na kněze".
Co se týče odporu k "genderové ideologii" a ke "klerikalizaci žen", jsou si oba papežové rovni (oba termíny František používal a ještě přidal v tomto kontextu jeden vlastní – "ideologická kolonizace", což je největší chucpe, protože nikdo nikdy v dějinách ideologicky nekolonizoval více než katolická církev). Leon není faktický krok zpátky, je to jen klauskovsky řečeno nevítězství a nepokrok. A máme tu studený naučený klerikální úsměv právníka Leona namísto hřejivé a autentické lidské opravdovosti Františka, ale oba jsou to v jádru zcela konzervativní pánové.
Hltal jsem Františka od první chvíle kvůli jeho prvnímu slovu "buona sera" a kvůli označení papežství za římský episkopát, obojí v pozdravu po zvolení. Nečekal jsem od něho nic menšího než zrušení papežství a všeho. Nedočkal jsem se skoro ničeho, kromě etablování termínu "klerikalismus" jako označení patologie církevních struktur, za což jsem vděčný, protože před Františkem to bylo chápáno jako nadávka agnostiků a ateistů. Tady u Leona nečekám nic a taky se zřejmě ničeho nedočkám. Rozdíl je jen kosmetický.
Ale jedna z mně blízkých osob je uklidněná, protože Leon si vzal ke zdravici na balkon u sv. Petra vyšívanou rochetu a štolu, a je spokojená, že je svět zase v pořádku a že Leon bude lepší než "ten chlápek" před ním, který se neuměl ani obléct. Pro církev je Leon požehnáním a je to nejlepší papež pro současný svět trumpismu a russáctví. Ale čekat od něho, že by se církev stala pro mne znovu atraktivní? Takový kandidát na papeže v současném kardinálském kolegiu ani nebyl.
