If there is a parked car on the pavement I will literally walk over it if I can get up the bumper and onto the bonnet or boot, rather than go around it. If I leave a footprint or a dent, even better. It's a footpath, dickheads, park your car properly and not in my right of way.
Here's an idea for a side project for someone who's looking for ideas of stuff to do whenever they have nothing better to do. An accessible GUI which accesses the ElevenLabs API. In my ideal scenario, you put your API key in, then it stores that. Then you can paste text into an edit box, have a combo box or similar to select your voice, other controls to select any other available settings, then a button to generate the speech.
I think there's a STAR provider for interfacing with the eleven labs API? Unsure who's API key it uses though or if it lets you specify your own. Also balabolka can do this via it's online TTS dialog. github.com/samtupy/star

When we moved into our new house, I got a new recliner. I explicitly wanted one that was fully manual, but had a hell of a hard time finding new recliners that weren't "power" recliners. I'd like it if my recliner, for example, still works if the power goes out.
I sure as hell did not want a recliner that had any kind of "smart" functionality or that needs to be hooked up to a network. There may be a good reason for such things when it comes to assistive technologies, I don't know. If so, I'm glad that folks who need such things can get them--but I really, really do not want *my furniture* to have any dependencies on "the cloud" thankyouverymuch.

I agree with the article in general. But unfortunately, accessibility _is_ also complicated. I think denying that doesn't do us any good; it's better to acknowledge that it's complicated and talk about how we can either simplify it or convince more people that it's worth the complexity.

It probably won't matter much. The current app store requirements in the EU are:
- you have to get a letter of credit that you're good for 1.2 million Euros - you have to have been a developer for 2 years with like over 1 million downloads in the last calendar year - the apps must still obey all the normal app store guidelines
How about Igalia (igalia.com/about/values)? They're an open-source consultancy, and their structure looks a lot like a coop to me. I've often thought that working on desktop Linux accessibility as part of Igalia would be a dream job for me.

Key findings: 45% of all AI answers had at least one significant issue. 31% of responses showed serious sourcing problems – missing, misleading, or incorrect attributions. 20% contained major accuracy issues, including hallucinated details and outdated information. Gemini performed worst with significant issues in 76% of responses, more than double the other assistants, largely due to its poor sourcing performance.

I don't get this "has details" thing Slack now says next to channels? Can someone who's like, a Slack Mojo clarify? Does it mean the channel itself has details added like a description, or does it mean it has details about new items on a canvas or in activity, but now it can have unread messages and details too, Slack, what are you doing? Oi oi. That is all. OK, Slack, sorry for blaming you! If you're on NVDA, worth to check this one off with Slack anyway: "Report 'has details' for structured annotations check box checked"

We've lowered the TTL from 24h to 1h last night, in preparation of the switch, then further to 5 minutes shortly before switching. So worst case it fetched the entry a few seconds before the first TTL adjustment, and you have to wait a few hours.
(TTL will be increased to 24h again later, but first all should settle)
