For those who don't know, these use some new models Microsoft rolled out late last year based on LLMs, very similar to what companies like Eleven Labs have been doing. While voices like these can be good for reading long documents, they're fundamentally unsuitable for typical screen reader use as they change their inflection constantly, in some cases drastically, depending on what is being spoken. A lot of this can come down to how the models are trained, but considering Microsoft had other versions of the same voices that would've done better I'm surprised they didn't just use those.
These HD voices would be much more useful in apps like Edge and Word in conjunction with the read aloud, functionality, but I'm not sure if they have been implemented there yet. It's still very cool to see it used in a screen reader like this, and hopefully improvements will be made, but I'm not sure the architecture they're using is going to hold up without modification.
