As much as I admire the work of the LetsEncrypt team, making a policy change that effectively raises the cost of competitive and independent agency at the behest of a browser team that's at risk of being split off from their corporate sponsors specifically because of anticompetitive behavior in the domain of that agency... this might be technically justifiable, but it's not the right decision for an organization being run for the public's benefit.

NASA engineer Ed Smylie, who helped keep the Apollo 13 astronauts alive using a combination of a spacesuit hose, sock, plastic bag, cue cards and duct tape, has died at age 95. Four hours after the explosion that tore through Apollo 13 in 1970, Smylie became concerned that the crew would suffocate due to the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the air. He and his team of 60 came up with a plan, tested it and explained to Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert how to build it during their emergency trip back to Earth. @bagder Essentially, #curl commit 0ae0abbe72514a75c10bfc4108d9f254f594c086 broke updating #HardenedBSD packages for certain users who use HardenedBSD behind a fully Tor-ified network (a network that uses transparent Tor proxying).
Those users were unable to update their HardenedBSD systems since the package manager uses libcurl behind-the-scenes. Some of these users live in malicious environments (malicious to human life), with actively-exploited applications.
So, this prohibition had a real negative impact, putting our users in harm's way.
If curl had a way to bypass the prohibition, we would've been able to keep our users safe.
This is why I mention #Radicle: they, too, do not support the .onion TLD by default, but can be configured to provide that support.
Radicle has three options:
.onion domain lookups will fail..onion lookups succeed..onion lookups succeedcurl is missing that third option.

As a part of global accessibility awareness day, we put out a new update for the Be My Eyes app for Windows that is completely rebuild from the ground up. Along with giving us a better base to build amazing new features for desktop in the near future, this new app also fixes a lot of the accessibility issues that people have reported over the last 1.5 or so years.
In addition Chat History is now also available on Desktop, so you can start a conversation from mobile and continue it on desktop (and vice versa).
