Okay, I'm having too much fun with this. Here's a stupid voice of my own creation (no idea why the pitch isn't right) reading a stupid story I wrote about a hyper-intelligent hedge trimmer. I'm sure @BorrisInABox and @cordova5029 will get a chuckle out of this.

Because much commentary is now being posted about the killing of a man in Minneapolis today by armed and masked federal agents, and because my previous thread about this today has grown long, I'm starting a separate thread about this now.

"There is some dispute now whether that was ICE or Customs and Border Patrol, wrestling an individual to the ground. He appeared to be motionless."

"Another day, another dead Minnesotan. Shot in the street while getting pinned down by masked federal thugs. And Donald Trump and Kristi Noem and Greg Bovino wasted no time putting out narratives that don’t at all square with the videos we’re seeing. But who you gonna believe? Them, or your lyin’ eyes?"

And who the goon squad is already slandering as a 'domestic terrorist.' Yeah, I’m for stopping domestic terrorism, too. Which is why someone should arrest Stephen Miller, who takes demented pleasure in waging war on his own people. While prompting his corrupt boss to do the same."

This is the second time that I have had OmniDescriber just totally lose my configuration. This time, I did literally nothing as far as I can tell. Windows Defender says my computer isn't infected with anything, but I'm still managing to encounter this issue. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure I can rely on this program anymore. If anyone has any thoughts on this feel free to let me know. Thanks.

I was using Debian earlier today--the GUI, not over SSH. I think I see why Linux isn't more popular. I had a .txt file, and I pressed enter on it. Any computer user would expect the file to open. At worst, they would expect to be prompted to choose an application. Nope. Debian popped up a dialog saying the file was executable, and asking if I wanted to run it. Come on, Linux. It's a text file! What are you doing? This is (part of) why nobody likes you.

Friendly reminder that Signal—while maybe not perfect—is a much better choice for communication than RCS, especially if you are communicating anything sensitive. Doubly true if you are on iOS or communicating with anyone who is, as Apple still does not even use end-to-end encryption for RCS like Google does on Android.

@MisuseCase ArcaneChat is just a #chatmail client, you can use #DeltaChat that is the official client it is available in all platforms and it is decentralized, doesn't require phone numbers or any private data, it has much better multi-device and multi-profile support etc.

Yes & I look forward to when you change back the acc & password screen under relays to the way it was before. Why you made the email acc name no longer copyable is silly to me. You made it harder for me to put the address out where I need to adb. Other then that nice work & who controls webxdc.org is there anyway to report webxdc apps?
There's a bunch of apps that I want to report for removal because the developer of those webxdc apps puts government propaganda at the footer of those apps. Software should not have your political views at the footer of it.

hi, you don't need to copy or share your email address in ArcaneChat, you will even have several of those in the future, they are used for relaying, think of them as #nostr relays, your identity is your encryption key just like on nostr, you should share your invite link, not your email address, that said, if you really want to copy it, it is in your invite link, just replace %40 for @, hope this helps, and thanks for using AC

in reply to ArcaneChat

Yeah I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to do what I want. What I copy the email address for is at my descretion. Whether it's useful or needed for my use case is my decision. I appreciate your suggestion but I want to copy randomserial@instance.chat so in order to continue doing that I am sticking to the older version of ArcaneChat & won't update till I know that's back.
When changes like that are made which make no impact & only hinder something that was working just fine I stop updating. If you do put it back so I can copy again let me know & i'll happily update.
I hope you continue to improve & make it better for everyone. I like AC a lot just wish that webxdc had better content & regulation.
in reply to Vyram Kraven

look, if you don't want to update because you want to "do what you want" then that is your decision and your problem

ArcaneChat is a chat app focused on security, copying email addresses is only useful for sending unencrypted email which is not a use case of ArcaneChat, and the security of people will not be put at risk making it easy to copy the address and try to send unencrypted by accident just because you want to

This entry was edited (2 hours ago)
in reply to ArcaneChat

Copying an address is not putting anything at risk. Lets not be mellodramatic & blow things out of porportion. Since your guessing at what I use it for & just assume something wrong like I do it for unencrypted email which arcane chat cannot do. If someone wanted to send unencrypted email to that address your not stoping them by making something that was copyable grayed out. They will do it the only thing you've done as far as this goes is just made something useful disappear.
If you really want to know I put it in kiosks when they say we need your email. & guess what I bypass their bs & no worries because it can't be accepted in inbox. So unless you can clarify some kinda exploit then there really is no reason why it had to happen. There's absolutely nothing wrong with copying bahdhdh9dhfje@your.instance.net

Friend, you are the only one being melodramatic 😅 I am here relaxed telling you the option to copy email is not coming back, that your identity is your key, that you should share your link instead, that you will have several addresses/relays, this was a security measure, it is pointless for you to cry about it, there is no way back

in reply to ArcaneChat

I'm very relaxed. Giving feedback isn't crying mr.mellowdramatic it's feedback & you don't like it okay cool. I'm not gunna stop saying it though because thats my review on the app. You don't want to change it back okay don't that's just more review sauce for me.
The way back is by not updating & if you kill older versions well then i'm just -1 to using the app & i'll try something like Cherogram which offers webxdc as well & then advertise it till there's a change that makes it worse then better.
in reply to Vyram Kraven

it is not that I like it or not, I don't care, I am just telling you your options trying to give you useful tips and advise to work with what you have

if you want to drown in that glass of water it is up to you, you are free to use whatever app you want, I am totally cool with that, if ArcaneChat doesn't suit your needs, don't use it, when you get something for free your options are to take it or leave it 😁

if you are using ArcaneChat with some classic email account that allows unencrypted email, and that is why you need to copy the email address, then copy it from wherever you copied it to enter it in ArcaneChat to start with, you have that email and password saved somewhere, right?

that is not a main use case of ArcaneChat and my time will not be wasted on that, unless you PAY A LOT for me to add that to classic email accounts

in reply to Vyram Kraven

@npub1k06ctulq8rcaen067tt6z3y6gxrqtsuje5em5lcn009zfpp0t7gqf0zyu9

(continuation)

yep the app will continue improving, the option to copy email address is not coming back, so you will not be receiving all the upcoming improvements tho

about webxdc, there is nothing wrong if app creators want to promote their political views in their apps, you have the option of not using them if you don't like them, there is no reason to censor them

in reply to Vyram Kraven

@npub1k06ctulq8rcaen067tt6z3y6gxrqtsuje5em5lcn009zfpp0t7gqf0zyu9

that is a different story, as long as your opinion is not aggressively attacking someone, there is no reason to not allow, anyways, if you have complains about some app in the store, I am not the one making the rules, go to support.delta.chat and complain/report there

@npub1k06ctulq8rcaen067tt6z3y6gxrqtsuje5em5lcn009zfpp0t7gqf0zyu9 by "drowning in a glass of water" I meant putting barriers on yourself and magnifying problems bigger than what they are, the problem is not your feedback, but you have to learn to accept a "no" as answer, not all feedback and wishes can be accepted, and trust me, things are done for reasons and not just to annoy you

anyways, have a good day/night

Thanks for your toot!

The urge to connect every thing to the Internet astonishes me. I enjoy other people's observations and complaints about the Bidness World's belief that we are all idIoTs.

This thread reminded me of a story from a galaxy far, far away - timewise. Before the Internet. Even before FRED, the first PC. The story is "The Robot Millennia", in "Galaxies Like Grains of Sand" by Brian Aldiss, New American LIbrary (1960). It was prescient, and fun. But no IoT.

Hi @Tamasg I'm trying NVSpeechPlayer 2026 v10, I'm not sure if this is the latest version, but the voice sounds a bit different, even when using Adam, than the original SpeechPlayer. Were there some changes that could change how the overall voice quality sounds? It's hard to pinpoint it, but the voice itself sounds less harsh and consonents like P sound very short now. I see several settings in the voice dialog but I have no idea what any of them do, but they did not seem to make much of a difference. Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to any input you may have. Thanks.
in reply to Brandon Tyson

yeah, there were like 3 missing phoneme fields: preFormantGain. , GlottalOpenQuotient, ETC. these got added in the later pack and are now tunable per vowel, in the past they would just be set to the engine default and everything got the same treatment. So this allows more flexibility but some things could have shifted with the change. Every letter now needs to define these new 3, they are very important for shaping and leaving them out in the past until now has been a disaster.

NVSpeech Player 2026 v10: Removes all pops/clicks from stream, 100% for sure now.
Spanish can now say "yo" properly. First attempt at "hear" and "dear" but it's not perfect yet. Other tweaks to voice quality.
Sample rate added. You can now choose from 4 of them if you don't like the default.

@clv1 You’re right, the schwa rule was present, but it didn’t trigger before "rã" in pt-br because we normalize ã into a Brazil-specific nasal vowel symbol Ã, and our PT_VOWELS class didn’t include Ã. I’ve added à to PT_VOWELS (and PT_NASAL_VOWELS) in pt.yaml, so consonant + ɾ + à now correctly becomes consonant + ᵊɾ + Ã. That should fix the missing schwa before rã / ram / ran-style sequences.

It makes sense that people who have completely abandoned their humanity want to replace humanity with software. The people pushing AI have no idea what art and music are.

They have no idea how a story can make a soul shiver and bend and laugh and weep.

They have no idea what it means to be truly human in this world, knowing that you are connected with all life.

They only want to replace humans with sickly, unthinking toys.
