***** Google Gemini Gmail WARNING *****

Damned #Google is now pushing their invasive AI crap Gemini onto the Desktop version of #Gmail, with no apparent way for individual users to disable it (Admins for commercial users apparently do have a toggle). The Gemini sucker icon appears as a four-pointed "sprite" next to the settings gear. If you hover on it, you'll see a "Try Gemini" tooltip. DO NOT CLICK ON IT, unless you want Google's horrific lying, fascism-ridden misinformation machine sucking up your emails.

NOTE: Again, there is no apparent way for individual user to disable this. The sprite appears even if you have all Gmail "Smart" features disabled.

This is Google blatantly trying to force this garbage on users who have no idea what it is and how much damage it can do to them, presumably as a first step toward pushing their "AI Agents" to take control of your browsing. Of course, if this is your kink, go ahead and chain yourself to Gemini. But you've been warned.

Gmail and Outlook are popular but not necessarily the best - especially when it comes to #privacy and #security.

20 years ago #Gmail revolutionized email with free storage & conversation view. 📧

Today, we’re ready for another revolution: one where your #privacy is respected!

Let’s build a better web. 💪❤️

Tuta just turned ten & we’re continuing to revolutionize email!

It's 2024 and #Google is now requiring bulk #email senders to use DMARC, SPF, & DKIM when emailing #Gmail users. 👍

👉 tuta.com/blog/google-introduci…

This is a great step, BUT why did they allow bulk senders to send #spam emails without proper #security standards until now? 🤔

Last week we fell for a stupid #Gmail hoax.

We'd like to apologize for sharing this image without fact checking first.

Particularly with the rise of #AI it's important that we all stay vigilant & not fall for #FakeNews.

#FreedomOfSpeech matters, but so does the #truth.

#Google is turning #GMail from an Email provider into a website.
No more access via standard email protocols such as #IMAP and #POP

The final stage of #enshittification . Locking the users in.

I wonder how they want to get rid of SMTP as stated in the support posting.
I guess this means outgoing SMTP to forward mail to a real email server.

I guess without relaying I won't ever receive any notifications Google services send to me again as I don't use the Gmail website.
I host my own Email server for many years, thank you.

Timeline for transition

Summer of 2024:

If you (or your users) try to connect to a less secure app for the first time, you will not be able to. This restriction includes third-party apps that still use basic authentication, such as CalDAV, CardDAV, IMAP, SMTP, and POP, to access Gmail, Google Calendar, and Contacts. If you’re not trying to connect for the first time, you will be able to continue using the apps until they’re turned off.
In the Google Admin console, you will not be able to access the turn on and off setting for less secure apps.
Users will not be able to turn IMAP on or off in their Gmail settings.

⏰ Wake-Up Call! ⏰

This Friday, #Google starts mass deleting old #Gmail accounts, but will they also recycle unused email addresses❓

Find out how to stop this:
tuta.com/blog/google-deletes-i… 💪

Yet, most people are not worried about their unused Gmail being deleted, but annoyed by receiving too many emails. Plus Google is constantly increasing the amount of annoying ads.

If you are one of many ready to leave Google, you can start looking for a private Gmail alternative!

If you do 1 thing today, use @Tutanota and forward your #gmail and #hotmail to your new inbox. Take back your mailbox!

For your second thing, switch to an encrypted messenger like #Signal and get your friends and family on it. It's so easy.

The "New Outlook" demands that when adding your #Gmail account, you also give Microsoft a copy of all your Gmail email, contacts, and calendar data.

The "Learn More" link confirms:

"Syncing your account to the Microsoft Cloud means that a copy of your email, calendar, and contacts will be synchronized between your email provider and Microsoft data centers."

WOW.

Good time to switch to @thunderbird, folks!

Yes, Gmail absolutely makes it difficult to get reliable delivery to Gmail users if you're not on Gmail or one of the other big webmail providers.

My server has never sent spam, ever.
It's had the same IP address for 15 years.
It's not on the DUL or any other list.
It is properly configured for and uses SMTP STARTTLS, DKIM, and SPF.
It has restrictive policies for SPF and DMARC and advertises as such.
It passes all validators.

And deliverability to #Gmail is a complete crapshoot.

In fact, I learnt a lot about how #Thunderbird and @mozilla are actually related, and I always thought it's a hardwired #Mozilla product just like #Firefox.

I'm really looking forward to the improvements in Supernova and also future updates to #K9Mail. I used to be a #GMail user but ran into performance problems on older devices and under bad networking conditions. Not a problem for good old #IMAP! :)
