#Music that gives me joy, chapter 6:
Luna by Poppy Ackroyd.
youtube.com/watch?v=zP1NvRqFND…

I tooted Hello World on November 30, 2022.

Then I began tooting my #music and a ton of #puns #jokes, and #memes. And you all responded so genuinely, and with such positivity, that I very quickly was made to feel at home.

My deepest gratitude goes out to the #Mastodon community, a #community that has literally improved the quality of my time on this spinning rock as it hurtles through space, towards a future that seems more uncertain every day. It’s unlike any other “social media platform” here.

Today, I celebrate the arbitrary milestone of five thousand followers, and I just wanted to say thank you.

Thank you for the favourites, the boosts, the follows, and the comments.

Thank you for your conversations, discussions, and corrections.

Thank you for listening to my music and sharing your thoughts on it with me, and for following along on your chosen streaming service. This has been amazing.

But, above all, I’d like to thank you all for making Mastodon the friendly and welcoming place that it is. My experience here is one of wonderful acceptance, and it has been truly humbling. There is nowhere else quite like it.

Massive big huge love to you all,

- Jon (Dgar)

It's raining here, and I'm feeling generous. This track has helped lots of people relax, even though it's mellow. But I'm here to show you that there's something beautiful lurking around in there. Inspired by rain, this is a true minimalist track with one motif going 'round and 'round. Enjoy! PS: DM me for a lossless copy if you'd rather listen to that. This goes for the other track I shared as well. #music #minimalist #rain

It's unreal how many soft or felt pianos I have heard, looked at, tried to imitate with other libraries. Nothing, and I really mean nothing, comes close to Ólafur Arnald's felted grand from his Composer's Toolkit. It's a very specific instrument for a very specific genre, absolutely minimalistic and fragile. One day, I'll purchase it. But for now, enjoy a well-made demo track: youtube.com/watch?v=sLIEXsHjfU… #music

this is being sold as "a Japanese flute". seller doesn't know which. at first glance I thought it was a shinobue but... well, look at it.

anyone knows what type of instrument is this? it might not even be Japanese, but it looks too well-built to be a generic souvenir. can a music person tell me what are those four bottom holes in parallel?

*edit*: best current candidate is the xiāo transmom.love/@elilla/11010259…

#music #folkMusic #flute it's not a #shakuhachi but maybe shaku ppl know

Huh, I can just upload music here. Music fans of Mastodon, I've been trying to find the name of this song and who sings it for the last 10-plus years. I found it on a burned CD randomly in High School, and that is all I got.

It would be of great help if you could boost this to try and get it to as many people as possible to hear this song. I'm sure someone out there knows who sings this.

LYRICS (To the best of my abilities)

Why is there war

This is the Reason

Human diseases plague upon ourselves

the more we survived, the more we lay waste

bring up the weak and tell them to fly

Follow my children. You are the saviours

Or just a number that dies in the storm

supposedly special, yet there is nothing

You cannot be done by some younger face

And who are our idols?

What do they teach?

Reflection upon us

We hate ourselves

Reality is lost

Higher than God

But you are our god, so who is the answer

Question your beliefs

You've been buried in oblivion

Live for today

Consequences tomorrow

Bloody for attention

Soil the floor

Not looking for the answer, just looking to ignore

How bleak is your weakness

[Can't understand the next few lines]

True power is money

Capitalist coin

Now we're back to the reason.

This question isn't solved.

So I drink to your health.

I smoke to your memories.

I shoot for the stars.

I dream of being heard

I entered your lies time and time again.

[Can't understand the rest]

Synth genius Wendy Carlos studied physics & #music at Brown & Columbia. She helped develop the first Moog synthesizer & her 1968 classical album Switched-On Bach went platinum. She brought music & tech together & composed soundtracks for A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Tron & more.

Carlos was assigned male at birth & transitioned to female. Unfortunately, many journalists focus more on her gender than her accomplishments that changed music forever. wendycarlos.com #history

So I've been building a 100% analog polyphonic synthesizer with an unique twist. To use only vacuum tube era technology from the 1930s.

Over 300 neon gas diodes create the sound you hear. Pretty awesome for technology from 100 years ago.

Still a work-in-progress, but I wanted to post a video of it with the innards spread out across the workbench. : }

I call it the "Neon String Machine"

Are you interested in songs that were sung on French ships during the 17th and 18th century?

Due to popular demand, you can now watch and listen to the recording of the Prize Papers Lunch Talk given by Éva Guillorel (Université Rennes 2) on 12 December 2022 on Youtube.

'Charmante Margerite je te fait mais adieux'. The circulation of French songs on ships in the 17th and 18th centuries

Thomas Wiggins was blind & #autistic #AfricanAmerican born into slavery who became a virtuosic pianist & composer.
He also had remarkable memory & mimicry skills. He was not only able to memorize & play back complex musical pieces but to imitate animal sounds & entire conversations.
Athough exploited by his owner he was one of the most celebrated Blk concert performers of the 19th c. but is virtually unknown today

I just wrote a song with lyrics and chords supplied by #ChatGPT!

Recorded it for you, enjoy!

The prompt:
"Create an emo song with lyrics and guitar chords that evoke sadness and loneliness. Make the chorus have different chords than the verses."

Verse 1:
G C
Lost and alone
Am D
In this cold world
G C
My heart is a stone
Am D
No one to hold

Chorus:
F C
Emptiness fills me
G D
Loneliness chokes me
F C
I am fading away
G D
In my own misery

(There's more but no room)

Today's one might be familiar to some of you as this has received a bit of media attention bacccccccccccccccccback in 2016 when Sweden hosted the Eurovision Song Contest.
To celebrate another win, for the time of the contest's duration, the audible traffic lights at some of Stockholm's locations have been revamped to play Loreen with "Euphoria" (winner of the 2012 ESC) when the lights are red, then when they turn green, they ticked to the beat of Mans Zelmerlow's "Heroes", the song that brought the contest back to Sweden in 2015. What a fun twist on an accessibility feature!

Every year, #MushroomFM, a station run in the main by #blind volunteers, produces a top 100 #holiday #music countdown based on the votes of listeners. We also have a social media #Christmas party in conjunction with the live 10-hour broadcast. This year, for the first time, it’s happening on Mastodon.

This programming is produced by blind people, for the world. Everyone is welcome to vote for their holiday faves, listen in, and join in the social media fun if they want to. Here’s the blog post announcing the 2022 countdown. Looking forward to the votes of our regulars and, maybe, some new Mastodon friends as well. mushroomfm.com/node/3137
