If you're interested in talking or collaborating with contributors to the Fedora Project, this is how you can join the conversation!
We have @matrix channels bridged to IRC for real time chat. We have the Fedora Discussion forum for long form conversations.
Both can be accessed with a Fedora account you can create, but Matrix is also available from other accounts since it is federated.

The #Mastodon server and #Matrix homeserver don't have to be colocated. E.g. you could be on mymastodon.example.com and hook it up to your matrix a/c on matrix.org. The larger #ActivityPub instances could use a small Matrix homeserver for it users without a declared matrix address, and automatically create a matrix a/c for them for the sole purpose of DMing.
The architectural possibilities are quite wide, I suspect.

Hey, there is a new #Nheko in town!
It brings many improvements to the markdown input, user search for the invite dialog and lots of fixes and improvements! Check it out here: github.com/Nheko-Reborn/nheko/…
(Nheko is a #matrix client, if you know what that means!)

The #matrix 2.0 #fosdem talk was 🔥. Besides the new ElementX client being both slick 💅 and fast 🏎️, I was impressed by the seamless p2p messaging without internet. I like to see cool tech combined with slick UX.

For those of you wondering what I’m talking about, matrix is a federated messaging platform with end to end encryption and all the stuff you’d want from an open messaging platform.

This presentation on everything happening with @matrix is seriously mind-blowing. They're doing some absolutely phenomenal development work, and I have a feeling that the server / client experience is about to get way, way better.

I love #matrix, but here are some criticisms for it I just read, hope they get acknowledged by the community and the foundation @matrix :

#fosdem Update Tag 2:
Schade!
I have - intentionally - installed a whole mess of #Matrix clients on various devices, and quite pleased with their interoperability, especially in terms of end-to-end encryption.
- Element web client in Firefox
- Gomuks terminal-based client on Linux (works on my
aarch64
Pinebook Pro) - Nheko GUI client on Linux
- Element on Android
- FluffyChat on Android
I have not much to add apart from the fact they… just work 👍 Just to clarify my testing criteria: I’m using these devices for daily work so have little tolerance for inconvenient user interfaces or crashing, but I have lots of tolerance for aesthetics, emojis etc.
#UnifiedPush using #xmpp #Conversations
Now #fluffychat (#matrix) gets notifications instantly (using conversations.im server)
Just set what XMPP account (in any server) will get notified and share it in your device

Apps using UnifiedPush
This is a non-exhaustive list of the first few end-user applications that use UnifiedPush. Android Name Description Date Platform Since version Docs¹ FluffyChat Matrix chat January 2021 Android v0.26.UnifiedPush
I have redesigned the chat encryption settings. It now shows a clear indicator if and why the chat is encrypted or not. It also shows a prominent verification button. User verification is now the default. Below you see a list of the device keys with their verification state. There you can also block devices if you like with a simple toggle
#FluffyChat is now given a proper #IntegrationTests setup via MR gitlab.com/famedly/fluffychat/….
The changes include:
- testing full features against all homeservers (#Synapse, #Conduit & #Dendrite)
- normalize the app's behavior independent of platform (currently Android FLOSS, Android proprietary and Linux supported)
- set of built-in helpers in order to simplify user login, logout or bootstrap processes in all future test cases
Platform-specific workarounds just took around 30 h of work.

@rumo
Someone publishes few pieces manually on @matrix. Not consistently, but I think they are doing steps in the direction of migrating here wholeheartedly, just not so fast. If you really want to hear from *human* human, find individual devs of #Matrix on #Mastodon and look how they are doing.
Most notably, I found @thibaultamartin and @travisr. Follow them!
These are great tidings, #Matrix!
Citing the best part:
"In France, for example, the civil service uses a Matrix-based collaboration platform called #Tchap. It means civil servants using Tchap in France could in future easily federate with those using #BundesMessenger in Germany’s public administration. Both sides remain in their respective country-specific apps, and yet still benefit from the end-to-end encryption, data sovereignty and #interoperability provided by Matrix."
Today I'm working on finally getting a "Favourite Messages" feature ready-ish to go into Element Web

Loving the way you present it by the means of #Thirdroom itself with presentation overlay and explain that the only server needed is #Matrix!
That aside, I just hope it'll show more than repurposing Thirdroom for meetings in the future, because no amount of simulated physics and emopacks can supercede human interaction.
