While #chatcontrol poses an existential threat to the Freiburg merlinux GmbH and distributing #deltachat apps from within the EU to all stores worldwide, it would resist any chatcontrol legislation up to the German constitutional and EuGH courts.

If the EU based company would need to fold in a few years, there would likely be forks distributed outside the EU that will *seamlessly* continue to function. Our architecture and FOSS licensing makes sure of it. See also chaos.social/@delta/1134177407…

Praha - Policie dnes zhruba na hodinu uzavřela Vysočanskou ulici v Praze, která spojuje Prosek a Vysočany. Důvodem byl nález miny. Přivolaný pyrotechnik zjistil, že mina nebyla funkční. Policie to uvedla na síti X.

The Android Airplay client DroidPlay (apt.izzysoft.de/packages/com.t…) hasn't seen any update for 10 years. We still see regular downloads from F-Droid clients for it. As there are not many alternatives, we'd still keep it in our repo if it's still useful.

Anyone here using it? Does it still work, or should we rather drop it?

EDIT: solved, we'll replace it with a much more recent fork already available in our repo 🥳

@Megamichi Thanks! That challenged me, so I've searched our repo – and found we already have a fork of it:

was last updated in 2024. Even the screenshots are identical. And the readme says it was forked from the last version, so it's not just a newer compilation of the same code.

And it even has a counter part: apt.izzysoft.de/packages/com.g…

TL;DR: We will keep it for 1 month, with a note pointing to the successor, then remove it. Thanks again!

PSA, the new Android 16 update will surreptitiously reenable fingerprint device unlock even if you had intentionally disabled it before. Depending on where you live and your threat model, this might not be safe! Americans have little protection against law enforcement compelling biometrics unlock. To make matters worse, the fingerprint unlock settings are found in a different part of the security settings UI than the rest of the device unlock settings. If you update to Android 16, make sure your device unlock settings are what you intended.

Just "being old" and "no longer maintained" alone are insufficient reasons for removal. No demand, not working, security issues are other points pro removal – being niche but still considered safe would speak against removal.

Such decisions always require careful weighting of arguments. Which is why, when in doubt, we reach out to those using our repo 😉 So thanks for your feedback! 🤗

In 2011, Aaron Swartz was arrested after he downloaded millions of academic journal articles from JSTOR via the MIT network. He was charged under federal laws (including wire fraud and violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act) with up to 13 felony counts, carrying the possibility of decades in prison, large fines, and other penalties. These federal charges eventually led to his death in 2013.

No AI company was ever charged under federal laws.
