Requiring everything be free software is the standard of the best distros, and what #F-Droid strives for. This goes against what Google is trying to with the Android ecosystem. They are pushing hard to get everything using their proprietary bits so that they can control the ecosystem. #F-Droid is the biggest force pushing back.

Groups are different from #hashtags in an important way: you will only see posts with hashtags your instance knows about — it's essentially a search feature. With groups it's different: if a remote account from the other side of the #fediverse posts to a group you follow, you will get it!

Just found out that the open source Python library for converting webpages to PDF, Weasyprint, has recently added experimental support for creating tagged PDFs that conform with PDF/UA:
weasyprint.org/

This is really exciting as there aren’t many open source options for doing this. I’m going to have a play and try creating an @eleventy plugin for this!

Was just searching #pinafore and this was prescient. It's good that Nolan forecast the situation. Just want to let you know since you contributed, and I understand the tech debt concerns he had, that I'm operating a fork of Pinafore to allow it to continue on in relation to contributor interest.

Chemist Rachel Fuller Brown was born #OTD in 1898. She discovered the antifungal antibiotic nystatin while doing research for the NY State Department of Health, hence the name.

Rather than keep the profits from the drug, Brown (standing in the photo) and co-discoverer Elizabeth Hazen assigned nystatin’s patent royalties to the nonprofit Research Corporation of New York, to help support other researchers.
