I'm using Paperback more and more these days. Unlike QRead, which I still need for Bookshare DAISY files, Paperback removes all the unnecessary blank lines between paragraphs and pages, and you can't imagine how nice that feels! It also loads books incredibly fast, no matter how large your EPUB or PDF files are. Huge kudos to the developer, and here's hoping DAISY support gets added soon so I can fully switch over. github.com/trypsynth/paperback @TheQuinbox
@clv0 As I see it now, Bookworm supports DAISY books, and I'm afraid it's the only advantage. But even its DAISY support is half-baked, meaning, for instance, activating hyperlinks inside DAISY books doesn't work at all. Honestly - and with all respect, Bookworm sounds like an abandoned project to me. It hasn't received a single commit on Github over the past couple months or so, and no one is responsible to handle its long-standing bugs or issues. There's no clear roadmap for its upcoming releases - if any. It doesn't handle bookmarks and notes well either, so you can't easily move books to different machines along with your notes and bookmarks. All in all, I don't like Bookworm as things stand right now. @TheQuinbox

New instance for me, so I'll try to introduce myself, because why not. I am 45/straight/cis (well, I might be ace somehow, but Idk) and live in Austin, TX, USA. In general, I tend to think about patterns that occur in society and how best to look at situations. I think a lot about the political situation in the US but feel like I don't know the solution. I am totally blind and am involved with Linux accessibility (I currently work for SUSE), so sometimes I post about that. I also find land use and transit to be interesting, since they are related, and both impact me as a pedestrian. I'd consider myself spiritual, and I've gone to the local UU church off and on, although lately I've been finding it harder to motivate myself to go out and do things. Other than that, in no particular order, I like swimming, podcasts, puns, coffee shops, music, reading and writing. I also have mikegorse.substack.com, but, alas, I haven't written there in a while--I need to get into the habit of blogging again.

@mhussain YaST is still the default installer for Tumbleweed, but I assume that Agama will become the default at some point. Regardless, it is possible to download an Agama ISO and install Tumbleweed from it.

I'm a little surprised. I thought that Bluesky was supposed to be what Twitter isn't. I also had trouble with the CAPTCHA a while back (in theory, the one they use should be accessible, but, unless things have changed recently, their accessibility cookie has not been tested in a while and does not work on modern browsers, at least not out of the box). (Yeah, I could just ask a sighted person to help me with it, but, still, it's a road block and can be demotivating).
It had its last release in 2022, and the source code archived in 2024 – while still being marked "alpha" and "not sure if it works", but we still see around 20 installs (aka downloads by F-Droid clients) per month.

I'm also importing some of your tags (e.g. 'wooden' as 'material=wood'), but not all of them. 'Funny' is too subjective for OSM, 'cat' and 'dog' are a bit of a mixed bag and not always about a remembered pet. Emoji can be handled by simply putting an emoji into OSM

Hey @termux, I just installed #termux on a new #GrapheneOS device. When I did pkg upgrade, it automatically chose a Chinese mirror although I am in Europe, and I am not using Orbot or any VPN. Should I be worried?
if you don't want to use those mirrors, you are free to run the "termux-change-repo" command in your terminal to change your mirrors per their geographical continent(Asia, Europe...).
That would be neat... But for privacy reasons we do not want to rely on 3rd party do to the location estimation (which is typically done by trying to geolocate IP address).
We had a mirrorbits service before on our server to handle automatically redirecting to estimated closest mirror, and will likely set it up again at some point, but from user perspective it is still better to manually set closest mirror, to avoid unnecessary redirects
I assumed that when it says, “testing the available mirrors,” pkg does something like netselect-apt, apt-mirror-updater or apt-smart in the background to find the fastest package repository. Those tools do not rely on a third-party service, I think.
@Rastal That just what I did next, and it helped. But that is just a workaround. I would hate to see more European users defaulting to using Chinese software repositories.
