Anyone with a Xiaomi device using the MiDoze app?

apt.izzysoft.de/packages/io.gi…

It wasn't updated since 2022, and the source repo was archived in 2023 – so it's unclear if it's still working at all (to download firmwares from Xiaomi).

EDIT: thanks for the feedback! As it's still working, we'll keep it for now.

I'm using Paperback more and more these days. Unlike QRead, which I still need for Bookshare DAISY files, Paperback removes all the unnecessary blank lines between paragraphs and pages, and you can't imagine how nice that feels! It also loads books incredibly fast, no matter how large your EPUB or PDF files are. Huge kudos to the developer, and here's hoping DAISY support gets added soon so I can fully switch over.

New instance for me, so I'll try to introduce myself, because why not. I am 45/straight/cis (well, I might be ace somehow, but Idk) and live in Austin, TX, USA. In general, I tend to think about patterns that occur in society and how best to look at situations. I think a lot about the political situation in the US but feel like I don't know the solution. I am totally blind and am involved with Linux accessibility (I currently work for SUSE), so sometimes I post about that. I also find land use and transit to be interesting, since they are related, and both impact me as a pedestrian. I'd consider myself spiritual, and I've gone to the local UU church off and on, although lately I've been finding it harder to motivate myself to go out and do things. Other than that, in no particular order, I like swimming, podcasts, puns, coffee shops, music, reading and writing. I also have mikegorse.substack.com, but, alas, I haven't written there in a while--I need to get into the habit of blogging again.

They already were though

I took a stab at converting eloquence to work with the 64-bit #NVDA alphas. Unfortunately, it's a bit laggy, and pitch doesn't come back down after a capital letter.

My latest: Discord said late on Friday that hackers stole users' government-issued IDs (passports and driver's licenses) from one of its customer support databases.

I wrote a few words about the risks of age verification laws, and why collecting people's government IDs is bad for security and privacy.

I can’t help but feel vindicated for my ultimate decision to not touch #Bluesky even though my reason was different than this; I couldn’t get past the captcha to even get an account created. So oftentimes if someone posts something here from there I never see it. I’m just glad I’m here and not there. social.chinwag.org/@FediThing/…

I'm a little surprised. I thought that Bluesky was supposed to be what Twitter isn't. I also had trouble with the CAPTCHA a while back (in theory, the one they use should be accessible, but, unless things have changed recently, their accessibility cookie has not been tested in a while and does not work on modern browsers, at least not out of the box). (Yeah, I could just ask a sighted person to help me with it, but, still, it's a road block and can be demotivating).

To those with rooted devices and XPosed: are you using the "Fuck Location" module?

apt.izzysoft.de/packages/fuck.…

It had its last release in 2022, and the source code archived in 2024 – while still being marked "alpha" and "not sure if it works", but we still see around 20 installs (aka downloads by F-Droid clients) per month.

Your feedback is needed here to decide whether we should keep or remove it, so thanks in advance!

Why this "AV" (Age Verification) requiring the upload of documents poses risks which are IMHO not justified by the reason:

discord.com/press-releases/upd…

What got out? Well, just "… Name, Discord username, email and other contact details … billing information … IP addresses … government‑ID images (e.g., driver’s license, passport) from users who had appealed an age determination"

Well, happy identity thefting then… Remember: what's not there, cannot be stolen 🤷‍♂️

Watched it and yes, DOT delivered another good introduction to a useful DX tool. I know it will make me use #cURL exponentially more.

It also made me install #xh as a complement. Both because I like how colors make it easier to analyse, and for it providing a less complex command for basic stuff.

But also for its "--curl" option ;)

#curl #xh

Anyone using the Tsumugi web radio app?

apt.izzysoft.de/packages/fr.fo…

It saw its last release in 2019, its repo lies dormant since 2022 with issues ignored – but we still see about 10 downloads per month via F-Droid clients (so app installs). So shall we keep it as "still useful" – or remove it as "It's dead, Jim!"?

EDIT: Thanks for boosts & feedback! App will be removed with the next sync.

Allright, I needed some time to finalize things.

The data is now shown directly in the production version. You can link using e.g.:

mapcomplete.org/benches?z=14.4…

-> Make sure z is >= 14
-> The lat and lon should also be approximately correct. There is no code to automatically zoom to the selected openbench-object, so it should be in view to be loaded
-> The hash has the openbenches-id; it'll open the popup once the openbenches data is loaded from MapRoulette
