There's an upcoming course with the Anti-Racist Classroom, for Community and Moderation. They had Admins and Moderators in mind for this course.
"Antiracism and Communicating Online In this two part series, come together in community to discuss and problem solve the challenges of communicating and moderating online with an antiracist lens."
This classroom is aimed at white people. The courses are discussion based, so there's no sequential curriculum, You can sign up as long as you have a commitment to Anti-racism (that means awareness of your actions in this case, and willingness to keep growing)
The first cohort is on the 20th and 27th of December (the two parts, one on each)
It's a paid course, and luckily there is a stipend if you can't afford it. You can even donate some money to help other people attend the course.
I took my first anti-racist course with them (their 101 course) back in January this year.
If there's still interest, but these dates don't work for you, because it's short notice or anything else, they will be looking for more opportunities in the new year. So still let them know! #AntiRacism

Have you ever interacted with the website of another Mastodon server and found yourself having to re-enter your username and password, again and again?
There's a new browser extension called FediAct which lets you directly interact with other servers' websites without having to log in again or copy/paste addresses.
1. Log in through your server's website (your server's website is the last part of your handle, for example mine is mstdn.social)
2. Install FediAct on your web browser (Firefox or Chrome)
3. Go to FediAct's settings page and enter your server (so for example mine is mstdn.social)
...that's it! While you are logged in on your own server's website, you can also interact with any Mastodon site without having to log in again or copy/paste.

If your changes are CSS-only, a diff against hg.prosody.im/style-boot.css could be easily applied (browsers let you export modifications you make with their style editor).

In 2022, the most critical accessibility issues were: keyboard accessibility, supporting smaller viewports/zoom, using semantic markup and ARIA attributes correctly, and managing focus visually and programmatically.
We are pleased to announce a new minor release from our stable branch.
This release fixes an issue in the library Prosody uses to build XML stanzas, wherein it was too strict and disallowed the character “DEL”, which is actually allowed by XML.
Can be used to sync some data (documents & co, not intended for system stuff) without needing any app on-device. Uses rsync & adbfs (some details in the readme). You define per-directory whether it shall sync from or to the device. Supports bidirectional as well, but use that with care as it's rather hacky-wacky.
@IvanGubkin Enjoy! Should something act "funny", issues are open. Took me quite a little to figure some things, and some hacks to get them right (like, timestamps and such). Just roughly tested, so there will be some quirks for sure.
@IvanGubkin I especially wanted to avoid having to set up some apps on multiple devices. And yes, I had thought of that (and some other tools). But why if it works without? If a daily sync suffices, at night most devices are feeding on the USB cable anyway 🤪
@xander2m No. You define *what to sync* (in the JSON file), and it then syncs *when you run the script*. So it's either a manual task, or you can set it up via cron (which is what the -q switch is for, to keep the output quite and let only errors through, should there be any9.

Earlier this year, I became aware of STANDARD EBOOKS, a donation-dependent group of edtiors and layout experts who have been doing the amazing work of taking out-of-copyright books, turning them into top-quality ebooks, and then releasing them for free.

Could I ask someone who is on Dragonscave.space to please check something for me? Tweesecake.social is not picking up the #MushroomFM hashtag, and I have no idea why. It's a server-side thing because when you perform a hashtag search for it in any app, nothing is returned. Not all clients or servers support following hashtags yet, which is why searching is important. I know that like Tweesecake.social, dragonscave.space also runs Hometown and I'm wanting to rule that out as a cause. So, if you're on Dragonscave.space and perform a hashtag search on MushroomFM, is anything being returned? Thanks very much for any help.
THis might be a tweesecake bug. I did a search for #mushroomfm in pinafore and it popped up a link to the hashtag as the result, clicking on it gave me many posts. Did the same thing in tweesecake and it said no results.
Oh, no I didn’t. OK tried again and this time I did get results back. It gave me the hashtag result and after I clicked on it it gave me a buffer with the posts.

If I can still get in there (who knows, I installed SUSE on top of WSL at two in the morning one day a few weeks back), I'm going to set up VXSrv and then Nautilus on top of it. I would love to see how something superior to File Explorer will work on Windows.
@Nuno Interesting... I forgot it existed. Though I'll still play with Nautilus; I'm still interested in X11 forwarding and how that works with screen readers. I haven't seen anything about it.
@Nuno What sorts of issues will I be expecting with X11? I want to know what I'm up against so that when I do a Peertube video later tonight, I don't alert people to things they already know about.
@Nuno Interesting... I forgot that PulseAudio was a thing... or I didn't think it pertained when dealing with forwarding... I guess that would make sense. Because X11 forwarding could be compared to the virtual application experience you get via something like Citrix, right?
@Nuno Mastodon is a particular software. There are lots of other services and softwares that use it's protocol. Mastodon allows short posts because it's meant to be a decentralized alternative to Twitter. the protocol behind it is called Activitypub
@Nuno It's more just an advancement in technology and people saying enough with three main companies running the entire social experience for absolutely everyone.
@Nuno there is, though not sure how good it is. It's called Guilded, and then there is the Matrix protocol, which is sort of like Discord, but decentralized. Element is the most widely used client. Accessible, but not optimal.
@Nuno True. I don't see why using libraries that have functions to make things simpler though is a problem. I see it in some instances, but not in others.

Today's one might be familiar to some of you as this has received a bit of media attention bacccccccccccccccccback in 2016 when Sweden hosted the Eurovision Song Contest. To celebrate another win, for the time of the contest's duration, the audible traffic lights at some of Stockholm's locations have been revamped to play Loreen with "Euphoria" (winner of the 2012 ESC) when the lights are red, then when they turn green, they ticked to the beat of Mans Zelmerlow's "Heroes", the song that brought the contest back to Sweden in 2015.
