This year @igalia has contributed in a number of ways to encourage discussions and efforts aimed at improving the Linux display stack.

I think my paper on Dummett, proof assistants and pluralism has shaped up rather nicely, and it will be good to see it out in the Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society in a few months’ time. You can read the preprint now.

There's more to be done, but I hope to have clarified some issues around how we can think about the relationship between constructive and classical reasoning, and how philosophers might engage with what is going on in the application of dependent type theory in proof assistants, programming language design, and the formalisation and mechanisation of reasoning.

I’ve hesitated to add anything resembling "calling home" (no update checker, no metrics).
However, the main goal here wouldn’t be improving A/V call success (though it helps) but making P2P file transfers more reliable. Many servers still lack HTTP Upload, and the refactored Jingle File Transfer would benefit greatly from a fallback STUN server.
Would not it be better to give users a warning "your server do not support the following features X, functionality Y will not work", rather than silently put the stress on conversations.im infrastructure?

I understand that you want to give best possible user experience to Conversations, but:
As a admin I am interested to improve my server (or maybe I don't want to use STUN at all?), and as a user I would like to switch to a server that fits my needs. 🤔
Using your infrastructure feels bad, because it allows to keep badly hosted servers without noticing it. Perhaps give a hint to admins, how he can improve it or how to use your services.
Also from a GDPR view: Does the user agree to contact a server he did not configure himself?
I still encounter people that say "I don't want to use xmpp, it doesn't work" - when the last time they tried was years ago. Bad Ux seems to create long lasting bad impressions.
If it can be deactivated in the configuration, then I don't see an issue with that. I would appreciate a warning though somewhere, maybe just a Message Toast on both sides that the fallback is used. That would help notice wrong configurations.
It would be great if conversations could verify that stun/turn works completely in addition to that. (Might also be a separate tool).

While doing an unrelated Google search, I discovered a Youtube video about a fascinating toy from the 70's. I've never owned or seen one of these, but the way they managed to make the toy seem to be intelligent is just amazing. There's no computer chips, no data processing, none of that. I had one of these, they were cool. I used a similar idea to run multiple text-to-speech audio streams in a recording, so you could hear the same chapter of a book from a different ear of your headphones as an experiment in high school.
Reminds me about a later toy that I encountered as a pre-teen in the early 90s, the Talk 'n Play (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_'n_…). My family didn't have one, but a family that we knew did have one, and some of the cassettes made for it. From what I remember, it seems to have used something similar to the NLS 4-track cassette format, but at normal speed.
@matt There were the dolls in the 80's which played back tapes. On one track there was a mono audio track and the other track contained data which controlled the doll's mouth, eyes etc.
I had a 2XL back in the day. It really was just an 8-track tape player with four buttons to jump too each of the tracks. Each track was recorded in such a way that, whenn you switched tracks at the right time, you'd get a different response. As you say, it had no intelligence but it sure did a nice job faking it. Unless you were one of thhose kids who understood how 8-track tapes worked.
@DavidGoldfield I also had a 2XL, didn't know how it worked until long after they were both dead. I had two, not at the same time, and quite a few tapes. Some were, Battman's Gotham City, Riply's Believe it or Not, Spiderman (unsure of full title,) and Music Maker, which was the coolest one! It allowed you to use diferent musical snippets to make a song! Primitive now of course.

Diría que hay más defensa de lo público entre los funcionarios británicos (que pueden ser despedidos y tienen peores condiciones que tendrían en un puesto equivalente en lo privado) que entre los españoles.
Yo no lo tengo tan claro. Mi experiencia es que los funcionarios defienden lo público con carácter general, y que un A1 o A2 tendrá más seguridad pero probablemente peor remuneración que fuera de la Administración.
Por otra parte tampoco me parece mal que la gente aspire a tener buenas condiciones laborales.
