Makes snese I guess. I mean, if we can watch movies illegally, why can't AI be trained on info floating out there? There are far bigger problems than training AI, like people actually using AI to write and publish books, which trash, garbage, whatever you want to call it, not nice, getting ideas or a nicely formatted list of ideas, fine, a word or two, because you got brain block, fine, but a whole book is a bit too much.

My absolute favorite part of the "Well, we are very excited about DeepSeek, but because it is a Chinese company we will have to do a security review" is that if they do the same review on Google's, Microsoft's, and Meta's AI products they will find that those also fail these security concerns, because questions asked of AI are stored on their remote servers and are used to reverse engineer business needs and design matching products and tailor marketing.

22 hours of reading this week and another 5 books swalloed up.

3 Pretty humdrum fanfics, although the 4th was a nugget: the way the Triwizard Tournament is handled in "The Lie I've Lived"by JBern was pretty cool. Shame the sequel isn't finished, the idea was quite well handled.

I started what seems to be a bit of a Star Trek knockoff series, too, which was ... Different.

@Tutanota How do you plan to act on the a11y issues on the web/app? The roadmap doesn't talk about that and The BFSG comes into force in Germany on June 8, 2025.

That's an interesting metaphor and it raises so many questions:

1. Wouldn't it have been smarter to torque them correctly from the start ?

2. How does one even determine the correct torque for any one bolt ?

3. When somebody starts a FOSS project today, where do they acquire a torque-wrench ?

And no, I'm not teasing you (this time 🙂 ) those are some of the questions I tried to find answers to with #varnishcache's "dial it to 11" code quality rule.

@bsdphk I would argue that knowing how much torque to put in or even where the bolt have to go is... a process that can only be done after already having built the project, multiple times.

There is a reason any big engineering project (yes even road and bridges) build a lot of simulations and prototypes and even to scale models.

In software, we have a chance that we can *change the product itself* once it is running for no more cost. As an engineer in any other field, I would kill for that ability, as it would makes the iterative process of designing far faster and efficient.

Said otherwise... doing it the way we do in software is more advanced and "good" engineering than doing it "in the real world".

This is ofc only one lens to look at it, but it does have some support. It is just one map to look at things, maps are not the territory.
