Nazi Germany didn't start with camps.
It started with loyalty tests, enemies within, attacks on the press, and people saying "this won't last."
It was built while people waited for it to get "bad enough" to matter. Waiting was a decision.
If this feels uncomfortably familiar right now, that's not an accident.

in reply to Tuta • • •a few suggestions:
Email: Proton (yes yes I know, but you mention them in calendars anyway.)
Translate: DeepL (?)
Browsers: I know they're Chromium, but options like Vivaldi and (reluctantly) Brave aren't half bad.
App Store: Obtainium
Android: Drop Calyx, its not actively being developed right now and is more of a security hazard than anything.
Maps: HEREWeGo (HERE Maps) is honestly pretty alright.
SmartWatch (WearOS): GadgetBridge, Garmin(?)
Google Home: Homeassistant

I honestly think many open-source developers don’t prioritise usability because they assume their products will always be fringe and non-commercial, so UX and onboarding are neglected. It becomes a badge-of-honour exercise to even get them working. 🛠️ 1)

in reply to Tuta • • •openstreetmaps is soooo much better. I use mapy.cz as a frontend and it is soo much better for biking and tracking.
I didn't even know half of those browsers. Are the foxes all forked from Firefox?

in reply to Tuta • • •Suggestions :
Translations:
- Firefox supports downloading models and running locally (either to translate page or direct access in "about:translations")
Android: also list non Android derivatives:
- #SailfishOS <- I daily drive that
- postmarketOS
- UbuntuTouch
They all have (container-based) solutions to run Android apps if necessary (AppSupport, Waydroid)
Also, add fediverse:
- Pixelfed
- Peertube

in reply to Tuta • • •Yeah, could be, but to be honest, it costs a lot more than f.e. the all in one (mail, storage, photos) price 2,99/month that Apple charges.
I would be fine if that would be 5 or 6 euro, but it's really a lot more.
