Game controler battery status script added. This works with PS4 controlers by default, and probably other batteries if you set the path in the script itself.

I just found this method on Reddit for piggybacking off Google get an RSS feed even if the web site doesn't provide one. Using Google is not ideal, but it's nice to have a workaround.

It's this format, just swap out the URL at the end:

Multiple Former Twitter Employees Note That Musk’s New Favorite Tool, Polls, Are Easily Gamed By Bots

I asked ChatGPT to create a SwiftUI app that plays the game of life. It gave me some SwiftUI views but left the simulation function empty with a "todo". So I just asked it to implement that function - and it did. That generated another helper function with a "todo" body. So I asked it to fill that in as well.

I pasted all of this into Playgrounds and fixed some minor bugs and it worked.

Probably this could have been done with Copilot, too, but this felt pretty magical.

in reply to Sean Heber

I had to fix a bug with the layout - it tried to use the Grid view, but it confused it with ForEach. Maybe I could have had it correct it with a bit of conversation? It also didn't initially have any data in the gameBoard array - so I just added that myself.

I know a lot of people are playing with Copilot and have had similarly amazing results, but this just kind of blows me away. I could see conversing to a complete functional app in the not-to-distant future. Like on the Holodeck.

I would appreciate help with code review on the macOS backend for AccessKit (github.com/AccessKit/accesskit). My primary reviewer doesn't have a Mac, or any experience developing for macOS as far as I'm aware. I'd especially appreciate help from anyone who has previous experience with the Cocoa accessibility API. Knowledge of Rust is a plus, but I don't think it's necessary. The tricky bits around Rust/ObjC interop have already been reviewed by an expert. Thanks!
in reply to Matt Campbell

@Marco Yeah, it's definitely a tricky one. The number of implementations where Microsoft seriously screwed up the text pattern (and the number of production iterations it took them to get it right even where it does work) make me sympathise with Apple's choice there. But that should all get handled in your library, so it won't be a problem for AcessKit consumers.
in reply to Jamie Teh

@Marco I'm still surprised by just how hard it is to get text right. As part of CTW, I rewrote Gecko's entire text implementation from scratch. It's much nicer now and should put us in good stead for eventually implementing UIA, but I feel I was only able to do that well due to the years I've spent understanding all the wild obscurities and edge cases that text has to offer.

I found huge cache of #DOS files. They are zip files of old programs, utilities, documentation, code examples, code libraries, you name it. It's called the Garbo FTP Archives and here is one mirror of it: ftp.lip6.fr/pub/pc/garbo/pc/
To get a good idea of what is there, download INDEX.ZIP, unpack it and you'll find a file with all the files in all the directories and a one-line description of each.

The files are split into dozens of folders, here are the folder descriptions: ftp.lip6.fr/pub/pc/garbo/pc/DI…

This should dramatically reduce the CPU usage consumed and allow for zero-copy rendering when used with hardware decoders.

As the hype for #decentralized systems (e.g.: #mastodon), where no could buy the whole service, continues, I want to also introduce decentralised #communication.
Ever heard or tried a #matrix #messenger? A new, decentralised protocol of communication to allow multiple participants join the network with different clients and servers. You can choose whatever fits you best. You probably wanna start here to try it: element.io/ (Get a client, choose a server)

@amolenaar The current documentation generator for C is based on pygobject's own 🙂 Having the introspection data and docs be the shared source of "truth" for doc generators benefits every language. Ideally, pgi-docgen should be fixed to parse the new gi-docgen "smart" links to allow cross-linking.

From a hosting perspective, being able to build the Python docs on GNOME infrastructure would be great: more people would be able to work on it and keep it up to date.

#Accessibility for the #Blind advent calendar: day 2 #Switzerland - open the content warning to discover the interesting fact for the day
When I was 9 or so, I discovered that one of the cineplex complexes in Poland operated a phone line with an IVR system that would let you explore the entire schedule of currently running movies. This was my first means of accessing information independently and on-demand. I was the movies expert in our house at that time and with movies like "Shrek", "Matrix", "Starwars" and "Harry Potter" coming out this was the time to be alive. I dreamt then that we will be able to access all of the info we want through a telephone. Turns out that's what #Switzerland is doing right now.
Voicenet is the service of the Swiss Union of the Blind, where you can call in and receive all the information you need to access culture, shopping, receive advice, benefit from the organization's services etc.
Some things you can find there:
- the current supermarket prospects with all of the weekly discounts and special offers read by volunteers;
- TV and radio schedule, including information on movies with audiodescription aired throughout the week;
- traffic and construction works;
- rail schedules;
- signing up for the Union's events;
- a voice forum where users can ask for advice and exchange information;
All of that provided by volunteers and an editorial team in three languages: German, French and Italian with the ability to navigate through content E.G. jumping from beverages to dairy products with the phone's keypad.
I realize that things like the NFB Newsline exist but it seems that, as Switzerland is a much smaller country, it is easier to offer much more local information.

@JonathanMosen Interesting! Is there anywhere I could read more about it? I also like the idea of voting by telephone that New Zealand and Australia have: so brilliant in its simplicity, yet so few countries embraced it.
