TIL: the practical minimum RAM requirement for OpenWrt is now 64 MB. openwrt.org/supported_devices/… I remember when 8 MB of RAM was adequate for a basic Linux desktop. For that matter, I'm pretty sure my first Linux install in 1996 was in 4 MB of RAM, but that might have been too tight for X11 in practice.
@nick Yeah, I saw your post about that earlier today. I remember Alpine taking some time to boot on the "stupid things with computers" show on my old-ish Dell mini PC (the one time it booted successfully, that is). But that Alpine install is long gone, and I don't remember how much of that boot time was the BIOS, the boot loader, etc.
@nick Jeez, did I rant about software inefficiency once a week when we did that show? (I jumped into the middle of the show and found the part where I'm doing the first kernel compile and we're having that discussion.) I guess I still do rant about that fairly often. Still haven't rewritten RIM all in Rust, though. Can't make a business case for it.

@nick Just got to the right part of the show. The successful Alpine Linux boot using my first pared-down kernel configuration took about 45 seconds. Again, I don't know how much of that was the BIOS/UEFI and/or the boot loader. Sometime I should install Alpine on that mini PC again and see if I can tighten up that boot process. I always struggled to get the boot sequence on that box to do what I wanted, though, particularly booting from a USB drive to do the install.
The VM currently running HKC's Icecast server apparently runs off KVM, RedHat, so probably Libvirt. Took, conservatively, 20 seconds to come back to full having hit the reboot command. Probably less. That shocked me, I'd never seen anything KVM-based do that. Yes on HyperV, but never KVM.

@erAck I was not aware that K9 is "Thunderbird Beta for Testers", uninstalled it to install the real "Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox" and now the K9 settings are gone. Thank you.
@fernsehchat @erAck This was a metadata slip on our part. K-9 Mail will still be its own app on F-Droid and elsewhere, and the fix should come in the next few days. Sorry for any confusion!

You probably got a suggested updated for K-9 to "Thunderbird Beta for Testers".
This is just a metadata issue, which displays a wrong name and icon. The update itself is K-9 in version 8.0.
@tinx Thanks. So to add to the confusion there's a release 8.0 of both, TB and K-9, and K-9 has an updated UI that looks like, well, TB, or effectively is TB ... or what?
@erAck so this is the story in short off the top of my head (and apart from the recent metadata mixup): K-9 partnered up with the Thunderbird team and the app got an overhaul. So effectively, Thunderbird for Android is K-9. However, they promised us that we K-9 users would not need to switch to TB, but if we wanted to at some point, there would be an easy way.
@erAck @tinx There is an easy migration: Update to the latest version of K9, install Thunderbird, and select "import from app" or something like this, I think it is the third option. You can then select K9 and all settings and passwords are imported.
Is it normal that the app icon doesn’t change when I just upgrade from K9 (everything works perfectly well otherwise, and UI is a bit better; thank you!)?
@mcepl Hmmm! Did you download and migrate to Thunderbird for Android, or just update K-9 Mail? They're separate apps (but right now, the code is the same! Just different branding.)
