--> Tired of decyphering the Perl code you wrote last week?

--> Frustrated with Bourne shell syntax?

--> Spent too much time staring at core dumps lately?

Maybe you should try Python, the next generation object-oriented
scripting and prototyping language, with a *readable* syntax. Python
has been used by hundreds of happy users all over the world during the
past three years, and is now ready for prime time.

Google Maps to show Gulf of America after government updates

cnbc.com/2025/01/27/google-map…

tl;dr, that how corporations abide to fascists. What's next?

in reply to Hubert Figuière

Always did, because large corporations don't get to be that way without the subtle effects of authoritarianism and money focus that fascist tendencies tend to carry.

It's a mistake to think this is anything new, and the previous government was also displaying *different* tendencies that fascists also tend to display.

Both need resistance.

If there is some exception to this, it's the proverbial one that proves the rule!

in reply to Hubert Figuière

Lmao. Capitalism ist the most batshit insane psycho shit ever created. Fuck Google and every living soul who is a part of it, mfers!

Everybody working for Google is evil. Everybody working for Google is now a fascist fucking clown.

Google and every other Silicon Valley fucking compnay has to be destroyed and dismantled and we have to throw everybody involved in a dark cell for the rest of their miserable lifes.

In case you didn’t know: You can use ground flaxseed meal in baked goods as a substitute for eggs. A 1-pound package is the equivalent of 70 eggs and costs less than $5 US. 🐣

1 egg = 1 tablespoon flaxseed + 3 tablespoons warm water

I'm still getting my head around this Mastodon thing, (my last post was 2 years ago)...my millennial brain seems to only compute with Instagram and Facebook marketplace at best - but I'm keen to share my work here as it seems like a welcoming space.

I make things - mostly freehand machine embroidery pieces. I'm fascinated by lichen-like forms - nature's ability to hold and transform is humbling in these current times.

Bingo. And that's why the #ProCraft movement needs to fight this dangerous technology with everything we've got.

(Alas I can't agree with the author when they say this: “I’m not suggesting we abandon AI tools—that ship has sailed.” Personally, I'm waiting for the ship to sink right into the ocean.)

So, after JAWS, NVDA is also kissing goodbye to SAPI 4 TTS engines, in 2026.
The support for Microsoft Speech API version 4 synthesizers is planned for removal in NVDA 2026.1. Any remaining users of SAPI4 speech synthesizers are encouraged to choose a more modern speech synthesizer.

Good news for SAPI 4 users! Now SAPI 4 support is no longer planned for removal in NVDA 2026.1, and all warning messages has been removed. Also, now SAPI 4 voices use WASAPI as well, meaning that features such as audio ducking and leading silence trimming can now work with SAPI 4 voices. Check the newest alpha version alpha-35416, and please report issues you find on GitHub!

@Friendica Support Why is it (bug or feature ;-) ) that I frequently have a difference in the number of comments indicated by the symbol and the text version:

Screenshot of a Friendica post. The speech bubble symbol show 46 comments, but the expand text tells "show 116" comments. This is encircled in red. Likewise, the double arrow symbol indicates 2 shares will the text in accordance also reads "2 Menschen teilen dies erneut. This is encircled in green.

The bubble symbol tells me 46 comments, but the expand text "116 comments". I would expect the same numbers here just like it is the case for reshared count?

I first thought my instance would not know the other comments, but since the higher number is the total amount of actual comments which are SHOWN, this theory seems wrong :-)

Here It Is, the Worst Slack Bug
"...Without thinking too much of it, you accept an odd prompt that asks, “Do you want to include the entire chat history?”
Because yes, you think, of course it should include the chat history of the group DM you’ve been chatting in for ages. Who has time for this? There is business to conduct! Essential facts to convey! But the answer here is no, you do not want to do that. Because if you do, you will have ported your entire DM history with the first person you selected for the chat into the group DM...."

Google has released the source code for PebbleOS, the operating system behind the now dead Pebble smartwatch.

This will bring more life to older Pebble watches and perhaps new watches powered by it in the future. Credit where credit is due I guess.
