Bill C-2 lets Canadian cops demand users' info without a warrant—and it paves the way for that info to go to U.S. government agencies. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/07/cana…

There's a CPU I'm way too familiar with thanks to Smoorez on YouTube, it's all over cheep chinese clones of iPhones and such. Guess they went for it because it was cheep to purchase and the performance is probably enough for a book reading device. But now you got me curious, I remember seeing from one demo you could select Google as an alternative text to speech, would the software pick up on other engines you install? Like the one you're probably thinking of but also on a more local note RHVoice.

- In debloater page, sort by app label (or app name) rather than package name
- Fixed freezing an app with “Remember for this app” turned on
- Fixed selecting texts in the list items due to framework bugs
- Fixed setting app ops in custom ROMs with MIUI properties injected
- Fixed updating profile modification status when an application is deleted from the list
- Handled common colors and cursor movements in terminal output.

Austria’s parliament has passed a law to legalise spyware for state use — despite strong opposition.

The new law would allow police to install malware on people’s phones or computers.
Officials say it will only be used to read encrypted messages, but experts are clear: there is no way to stop this malware from accessing other private data.

Civil society organisations and opposition parties have promised to challenge the law in court.

Pome do toho!

The Farm Bill is paying farmers to grow corn we don't need, which has to be turned into HFCS and ethanol, sometimes bio-plastics (which aren't magically safe, don't buy the hype)

The corn sweat is exacerbating the heat domes. You're paying for it through suffering and higher electricity bills to try to beat the sweltering heat.

WE are bearing the cost of this stupid, stupid policy in more ways than one.

🔠 In Google’s Alphabet, C stands for control, not compliance.

That’s why with @article19, @fsfe, @HomoDigitalisGR @vrijschrift, we have filed a formal #DMA complaint vs. Alphabet.

Despite clear rules, Android users can’t uninstall pre-installed Google apps, only disable them.

This is deceptive design that limits real choice.

📣 We urge @EU_Commission to act & enforce the #digitalmarketsact.

As you might know, we have an #Android app version of #MapComplete in the works, which makes it even easier to see and edit #OpenStreetMap

After a bit of initial testing, we are opening up the test program to our followers here on Mastodon.

If you want to join the beta testers, send an email to info@mapcomplete.org

Our community team has a new video series! "Contributing to Thunderbird" breaks down the barriers to developing, testing, translating, and supporting Thunderbird on desktop and mobile. Our first videos help you build a Thunderbird development environment on your Mac and Linux (specifically Ubuntu) machines, with a Windows video in the works:

`aria-label` still does not (consistently) translate.
adrianroselli.com/2019/11/aria…

Unless you only translate never-hidden content, your `aria-label`s never change, your content is an arbitrary subset of maybe only a dozen languages, and it never has a `<code>` element.

My beard seems to sufficiently disturb KYC processes for online banking and money processing accounts.

I'd kinda like to know the other side of it though. How to identify certain mask wearing individuals up to no good. Criminals in the act of committing crimes like breaking and entering or kidnapping or menacing or assault or thievery or what have you. Evidence could be gathered and burned onto the bitcoin ledger. Either it stays up forever or bitcoin goes down ;)

I can dream.

Jak jsem v predchozim postu hanil Macaly (AI agenty obecne, ale oni jsou na rane), tak tu mam dalsi zajimavost.

Hackers have reportedly destroyed the entire IT infrastructure of Russia’s Aeroflot in a year-long cyber operation. All critical systems—from databases to internal mail and executive communications—were breached. Around 7,000 servers were wiped and over 20TB of data stolen. Damages are estimated in the tens of millions of dollars. The attackers call it a "strategic strike" on the company’s and state’s digital security.

Konečně něco pořádnýho. 👍

in reply to adison verlice

@adisonverlice There's a report of all the accidents that have ever happened to a Waymo. In the US, those are tracked and regulated pretty tightly. Most of the stories rhymed with "the car was in a parking lot, there was a thunderstorm, the car got hit by a tree, nobody was inside, but the vehicle had to be scrapped." At the time of the report, which was a few years after these cars were first deployed, there were two "real" accidents, both clearly the fault of the other party as documented on CCTV. Those are very clearly safer than humans, there's no question about it at this point. Not perfectly safe, and that's a distinction that escapes a lot of people, but much safer.

You're right about the lack of accountability, and that is exactly the problem. It's the question of what do we want as a society. A safer car, but one where there's no sense of closure when an accident happens, or a car that kills a lot more people, but when your family member dies in an accident, you can watch the guilty party rot in prison.

in reply to miki

@miki You know I do have a way we can actually do something about it. Obviously the human is not going to have any closure. But what if we did something like this. We have AI so you can't tell me that we can't do something like this. Let's say there's about to be an accident and they're going somewhere the car will stop and back away and alert the person that there is a car that that's about to have an axis. Or that there's an accident. And then the car will try to take an alternate route. It could be longer but we're not worried about how long the route is in this situation. We have patience we can handle it. We're worried about not getting into an accident. Or if it can't do that it will try to back away to the safest possible area. And if it can't do that it will TRY to activate the airbags or get them ready before that car gets hit.
