In the next episode of my #podcast, Mosen at Large, I'm devoting an hour to Mastodon from a #blindness perspective. As well as discussing some important cultural issues, I'll provide an audio demonstration of using the #web interface and the Metatext #iOS client with a #ScreenReader. A transcript will be available too, for maximum #accessibility. It will be available everywhere you get podcasts. More details here. mosen.org/malppreview0206/

While we're on the topic: This is another issue that could really help #accessibility : github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i…
This one seems easier to implement, but I personally rate the emoji issue higher, since emoji are in much more common use while you're reading your feeds!

This seems like an issue that should get a lot more reach than it has. #Accessibility #Mastodon #mastoadmin

Please help!

Please try to make sure screen reader #accessibility stays preserved. That the UI elements are clearly labelled and can be used with keyboard alone.

If you are working on a project which I might be a good fit for, feel free to reach out to me at LauraKBuzzOfficial@Gmail.com

I am happy to discuss consultancy projects, and see if I am a good fit for your project.

Around a year ago, I managed to dig up some information on why a song in Life is Strange: True Colours wasn't subtitled, resulting in an accessibility issue for deaf players.

During Global Accessibility Awareness Week this year, I was invited to give a talk for Eidos Montreal / Square Enix West, all about how disabilities often intersect, and needs can overlap in unexpected ways Devs need to consider.

My main piece of regular work is a series called Access-Ability.

The series, which is made up of 100+articles, releases weekly, and discusses how the video game industry can be more accessible to disabled players.

Back on my groove at refactoring at-spi2-core, finally. Getting closer to being able to replace libdbus usage with gdbus. #accessibility

Good news for the @Mastodon #iOS app‘s #VoiceOver support. @jedfox has been on a roll these last few days and has added some really awesome #accessibility related pull requests to the public repository. Hope they all get merged soon and new TestFlight builds be made available so we can test them out before release. Among the fixes is the compose button, custom actions, better labels in the compose screen, and more.

Hope @Gargron or @zeitschlag can approve and merge them soon. #a11y

How’s everyone spending their Sunday? If you care about an #accessible and #inclusive #NewZealand and haven’t yet done so, consider making a submission on the #Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill. It’s do nothing legislation that could set accessibility back for a generation. Disabled people deserve better. Submissions close tomorrow. You can read my submission here. mosen.org/AccessibilityBillSub…

Looks like folks are doing #introductions. All righty.

Howdy y’all! I was born hearing-free aka profoundly deaf. I read lips (more lip guessing). I'm a TEDx and professional speaker on DEI with a focus on #accessibility and disability awareness. I’m certified Accessibility Professional and #DigitalMarketer who works with companies to evangelize the creation of an inclusive and accessible culture. Proud Mom of 3. One is an international traveler and one is a rocket scientist in the making

Just heard from the Social Services and Community Select Committee. I’ll be giving an oral submission on the deeply flawed #Accessibility for New Zealanders bill on Wednesday. Submissions close on Monday, so there’s still time to submit if you have an interest. My submission is here. mosen.org/accessibilitybillsub…

Thank you, TEDx for viewing #accessibility as an important topic and for making it an Editor’s Pick. Thank you Shannah Hayley and TEDxPlano for the opportunity! Thanks to Thomas Logan, Makoto Ueki, and Ashley Coffey for making the talk possible

Hey @Tutanota I noticed that after I click on "Show more" to see the email headers, the text still says "Show more" instead of "Show less". The only difference is a small arrow changing its direction.

Can you fix this #accessibility issue please?

Dear @thunderbird
Could you please remember captioning your images?
Some instances offer automatic #OCR which can help grab any text in your image, though proofreading is still important. You can also follow @PleaseCaption to be reminded whenever you post an image without captioning it.

Recently a friend recommended me to try out this awesome looking GPS navigation app specifically designed for visualy disabled users.
Seeing Assistant Move: play.google.com/store/apps/det…
Unfortunately I can't make it work on my Android 12 device. The app never receives GPS signal eventhough all the permissions are granted.
Do you know someone who is using it on Android? #Android #Accessibility

If anyone has time to help the lovely @codeberg folks with improving accessibility, please take a look at this issue:

So back in 2020 Codeberg asked for help from the community to help them with #accessibility issues. They need some help in house as the current solution helps them manage the spam that would overwhelm signups, but their moderation team is small. CAPTCHAs aren't very accessible and they would like some help to fix this. #a11y Can anyone help? The linked toot is their request for help.

Likely this will not be an open source thing, but I want to mention this service anyway for those you using #screenreader software and have related #a11y #accessibility needs.

Project Naptha looks to be a service that can generate descriptive texts for any image.

It is discussed on Hacker News now at:

This issue summarises the issue and suggests a good solution (to have an option to override just the color-scheme setting without disabling fingerprint resistance in general).

#accessibility question

what are good mastodon clients to use for folks who need to use screen readers?

Reasonable Colors is an open-source colour system for making accessible colour palettes.

It uses an intuitive system of shades to help you select colours which meet the appropriate WCAG contrast rating, even if you're mixing and matching base colours:

Woohoo! Did you know there is an MP3 Direct Cut app for #android from the original MP3 Direct Cut author Martin Pesch? #Accessibility is amazing, all the buttons are clearly labelled, the app is very usefull with screen readers. play.google.com/store/apps/det… mpesch3.de/mp3directcut-androi…

Did you know there is very #accessible #email app for #android called #FairEmail. Version 1.1677 released today includes quick #accessibility fix where reply button within an email is easier to locate when using screen reader swipe navigation. If you are looking for nice email app give FairEmail a spin.
If you like it please do support the author by buying pro features from within the app or just donate at email.faircode.eu/donate/
