Search Engine Land (guest/paying author) is pretty clear that you should not use accessibility overlays (such as #accessiBe, #UserWay, #AudioEye, etc):

If you are interested in improving the #accessibility of Mastodon, take a look at the issue queue github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i…+

If there are issues you've found that aren't there, are they part of the instance of Mastodon that you are using, or part of the core open source project? Custom themes can get in the way.

Posting #a11y bugs is important in moving ahead any open source project.

If you are working on a project which I might be a good fit for, feel free to reach out to me at LauraKBuzzOfficial@Gmail.com

I am happy to discuss consultancy projects, and see if I am a good fit for your project.

During Global Accessibility Awareness Week this year, I was invited to give a talk for Eidos Montreal / Square Enix West, all about how disabilities often intersect, and needs can overlap in unexpected ways Devs need to consider.

Good news for the @Mastodon #iOS app‘s #VoiceOver support. @jedfox has been on a roll these last few days and has added some really awesome #accessibility related pull requests to the public repository. Hope they all get merged soon and new TestFlight builds be made available so we can test them out before release. Among the fixes is the compose button, custom actions, better labels in the compose screen, and more.

Hope @Gargron or @zeitschlag can approve and merge them soon. #a11y

Thank you, TEDx for viewing #accessibility as an important topic and for making it an Editor’s Pick. Thank you Shannah Hayley and TEDxPlano for the opportunity! Thanks to Thomas Logan, Makoto Ueki, and Ashley Coffey for making the talk possible

Because there's no obvious onboarding nor page dedicated to accessibility features, notice that this is how you put alt text into images on Mastodon. I'm not sure what the upper limit is on characters per img. Use the "Edit" in the upper right-hand side of an uploaded image in a draft toot to access this area. #a11y #SciComm

@marcozehe some folks on Twitter are complaining that mastodon is not accessible. I know it ain’t perfect, but can you recommend the best mastodon apps for a screen reader user on mobile as well as desktop? And I can pass it on. #a11y

Introducing the Accessibility Inspector in the Firefox Developer Tools
The built-in Firefox Developer Tools just received a new family member. The Accessibility Inspector allows you to inspect your website's exposure to assistive technologies. Dear @thunderbird
Could you please remember captioning your images?
Some instances offer automatic #OCR which can help grab any text in your image, though proofreading is still important. You can also follow @PleaseCaption to be reminded whenever you post an image without captioning it.

Congrats @gnome #Amberol is very #accessible music player! Player controls including volume and skip sliders, playlist view, playlist selection all these features can be used with keyboard alone and screen reader turned on. If GTK issues like inaccessible shortcuts window, role names part of the controls labels will get fixed in the future it would really become fully complete in terms of #a11y.

There's also a wider question about implementation, because codeberg isn't the only site that needs to implement some form of control mechanism in their sign up to stop them from being overwhelmed by bots signing up.

Our projects are small and often just 1 to a couple of folk. We all have our small fields of expertise and energy levels. How do we help each other to fix this?

How do we ensure that sites are #accessible for everyone? How easy are they to install and support? #a11y

So back in 2020 Codeberg asked for help from the community to help them with #accessibility issues. They need some help in house as the current solution helps them manage the spam that would overwhelm signups, but their moderation team is small. CAPTCHAs aren't very accessible and they would like some help to fix this. #a11y Can anyone help? The linked toot is their request for help.

Here's the thing, the fancy-looking unicode characters almost never create words on their own, especially not those from the web, gemini or IMs, nor the ones for STEM fields.

A rudimentary look ahead "algorithm" can toggle transliteration on and off. We have transliteration mappings in every web CMS that deals with user uploaded files, because they need clean paths for SEO, just take the mappings from Drupal.
