Logic Pro 12 will not work offline!

Apple will not give me a 11.2.2 version of Logic Pro that I had before. It's obvious that they want to move to subscription model, but I don't want to. So Apple blames the victim, saying "you should have had a backup"? A reputable company would give me the previous version. No warning about this before udate.

This is not cool, Apple. Too busy swanning around the White House, Tim? Let's have some support.

If we don’t apply, enforce, adopt and embrace Open Source in our public and government institutions we risk to lose our democracies.

So the thing about Claude is that you have to treat it like a very intelligent 6-year-old who knows how to code. Never make it search for stuff, give it exact line numbers even if you can, searching wastes tons of tokens. What really throws Claude off is too many disjointed thoughts in one prompt, like if I drop one sentence about a future feature I want to add in the middle of the prompt, Claude will think that is a very important detail and try to design for that feature, even when it doesn't make any sense. It's also far from perfect, the experience with Claude is I "/superpowers:brainstorm fix #301", and it will either produce something that's incredible and fixes it on the first try, or make me cringe and wish I just did it myself.

There's a new infestation on the block. Automatic meeting summariser AI-s. They join virtual meetings on Zoom or Teams on behalf of people, unannounced.
So, as an organiser, you may see something called "Firefly" or "read.ai" join. They proceed to spam the chat with "helpful" snippets of the meeting. Then, they will send everyone, who was invited to the meeting emails with "helpful" summaries, which are hidden behind a link, for you to klick and get sucked into their marketing database.
From a recent meeting, I received no less than 5 emails from 5 different services.
Personally I just kick them out as an organiser, just as I would do with a physical meeting, when a random bloke nobody knows about would barge in and sit in the corner. If they would harass everyone after the meeting in the parking lot in their cars with "Tell me your credit card number and I tell you 10 super cool things of the last meeting", I would cut their owners out of my comms completely. In fact, I am not really shure why we find it acceptable in virtual spaces right now.

I missed this but Gentoo Linux allows you to bootstrap the rustc compiler using a regular C++ compiler via mrustc. You should be able to build the entire Rust toolchain from source without having to rely on a rustc binary distribution if you wish so.

Wow… Google fined a whopping $68 MILLION DOLLARS for eavesdropping on people’s spoken conversations. That’ll teach them! It’s going to take Google a whole hour and a half to make that money back. I guess they won’t be pulling shit like this anymore after feeling that sort of pain. We really showed ‘em this time, eh? mastodon.social/@JulianOliver/… mastodon.social/@JulianOliver/…

GoDaddy DNS really is a steaming pile of manure.

1. You can manage DNS records in cPanel, but the nameservers listed there don't work.

2. You can switch to the default GoDaddy nameservers, but they don't contain the cPanel records.

3. The only 'solutions' are to:
a. Copy all the records manually from cPanel to GoDaddy
b. Setup your 'own' nameservers, which resolve to the cPanel IP

Active dis-recommend if anyone is looking for hosting (I can't change this one, the client likes them).

Went to the hospital for some more voice training exercises, and a thought occurred to me.

Is there a place, a business, somewhere on this planet named after dirt, that manufactures uncomfortable chairs for hospital waiting rooms? A business whose owner one day decided, "my passion, my calling, in this life is to make chairs as uncomfortable as I possibly can."

Then, for some reason man was not meant to know, many hospitals saw this place, and said, "yes, we want to torture our patients. We want to make their wait as terrible as we can."

Je viens de réécouter du Within Temptation, et définitivement j'aime pas, le chant est toujours pareil, ça varie pas, pareil pour la musique

Par exemple, UnionEuropéenne ou Union_Européenne ?

[Repost] Clean YouTube links. When you get a link from YT, it includes an ID tracking back to YOU. It's a "query string" on the end of the URL like this:
...?si=

[tracker_ID_here]This ID allows YouTube (and their owner, Google, and *their* owner, Alphabet, and ALL of their associates) to track the people who click on the link, and the apps they used, back to you, building a network of none-of-their-business.

Good news: DELETE the "?si=..." part & the link works just fine without the tracking.

It's groundhog day, in which, for some reason, a groundhog is taken out of it's comfortable burrow and forced to look for it's own shadow, such that the continuation of winter can be predicted.

The answer is yes. Always yes.

It's the second most pointless day of the year, on the second day of the second month. How cute.

Which password manager do you use? 🔒🔑

If you're not using one yet, take a look at the top free password managers for 2026. They are essential for protecting your digital identity!

I'm missing Proton Pass on your list. They have a free tier, and the client apps are open source. I love the broad application and OS support, seamless sync between devices and the ability to share entries with other family members. It can also manage passkeys and TOTPs.

Email from Royal Mail: "We delivered your parcel! How did we do?"

Mate, you did the bare fucking minimum expected of you. Your entire job is to accept the parcel that someone wants to send me, transport that parcel to my house, then ensure that the parcel enters my house. That is literally your job.

Reviews are for things that cost people money to experience. I will review a meal. I will review a new record, or a new movie.

I will not review a fucking parcel delivery. Particularly not the default parcel delivery service in the UK.

Notepad++ have today confirmed their auto process was compromised by Chinese nation state threat actors, in a supply chain hack: notepad-plus-plus.org/news/hij…

This backs up my blog from late last year, with #GAYINT threat actor mapping to Funky Stamen.

The infrastructure and update mechanisms have since been tightened. For what it’s worth - entry was to telcos and financial services with interests aligned to China. Notepad++ dev did a great job treating issue seriously.

yaxim 0.9.9c is live on Google Play.

~Major~ ~Minor~ Only change: added support for Android 15 in order to be allowed onto Google Play.

Change in privacy policy: Google insists on yaxim collecting email addresses (which it does not) because XMPP addresses look like email addresses (which they do).

Looks like I sneaked in a bug as well, that impairs the self-ping timers. Investigation is ongoing.
