When I install apps on my phone, I don't use Google Playstore; I search for the apk file, download and install it. Fairly easy to do and it bypasses google entirely. I have a few browsers that I use; I don't use Chrome, I use ungoogled Chromium. I bought an Ungoogled android phone from Murena. I installed NetGuard that enables me to lockout an app from getting or sending info. I find it brings me a sense of control and personal power. The power is yours if you choose!

Kanalrelais sind Nutzerkonnten reposten nur BeitrΓ€ge die anhand eines Filters auf den der Instanz bekannten Seiten finden. Also normaler User kannst du diesen Kanalrelais folgen. Aber die Instanz selber kann den Kanalrelais nicht folgen.
Kanalrelais kann, wenn es der Admin erlaubt, eine User selber anlegen. Relaisserver kann aber nur der Admin hinzufΓΌgen damit die Instanz von denen BeitrΓ€ge bekommt oder sie weiterverteilen.

You don't need the latest, greatest new thing.

It is great to see so many examples of blind people meeting our own software needs lately. Thanks for the work you're putting in. Do you have any estimate for when you will create a Windows installer? I know several people who would love to play, but even extracting a zip file into a folder and running the executable from there is beyond their comfort zone. Same question for Fast SM, who I would mention but auto-complete appears broken in that client at the moment...
@JonathanMosen Thanks for the feedback on the installer, I can get one done pretty soon! My thought, as a technical user, was it's one binary, they can just grab it and put it somewhere, but I understand that lots of users are used to just running a setup program and then the software works, so I'll definitely get to it. @JonathanMosen Also, as excited as I am about how far you can go with just one executable in this new tech stack, you may eventually hit some constraint that forces you to ship other files as well.

Re: last boost (dragonscave.space/@TheQuinbox/β¦) about Fedra, @TheQuinbox's new Mastodon client, what makes this project notable to me is that it's written in Rust and uses wxDragon, a project to provide Rust bindings for wxWidgets. The result is a desktop application with top-tier accessibility for screen reader users, in a self-contained executable that's quite small by modern standards (~10 MB for Fedra). I hope this project will become a reference for future applications by and for blind people.
Note: Fedra is currently Windows-only. There are some complications in using wx to create non-trivial accessible interfaces across the three major desktop platforms. I'm sure Quin will work those out over time.
This is also a resounding success story for Cargo, Rust's build system. I just pulled Quin's repo, updated my Rust stable toolchain, then ran "cargo build --release". That was it. Out popped a stand-alone executable. On Windows! "Fused silicon", to use @glyph's old metaphor (blog.glyph.im/2006/04/fused-siβ¦), has never been easier. Granted, this is my dev box, so I already had a recent Visual Studio installed, but I don't recall having to do much if any futzing with it.
I do realize, that as @glyph pointed out much more recently, a stand-alone executable isn't the whole story, especially on non-Windows platforms. blog.glyph.im/2023/03/no-exe-iβ¦ We need packaging, digital signing, notarization on macOS, etc. But there's work happening on that stuff in the Rust ecosystem as well. @glyph Much better than how Paperback used to work, make sure you clone with the submodules, then init vcpkg, then make sure you're in a dev cmd prompt, and then run these three commands. Cargo is one of the things that keeps me coming back to Rust, despite me finding other languages that have draw in their own ways.
@Jason J.G. White @Matt Campbell I am afraid wx accessibility on linux is not sufficient to be able to make this enjoyable. For example #audacity is wx based runs on linux and as compared with the windows build radio buttons, tree views, tables, spin buttons and perhaps other controls have accessibility and keyboard navigation issues.
