Memo to @nationalreview:

1. The NOTAM system is separate from air traffic control.
2. The NOTAM system is *already* privatized. It's run by Leidos.
3. A significant portion of air traffic control is not run by the FAA. I talk to non-FAA flight controllers from the airplane every week.

Gajim 1.6.1 has been released 🎉

This is mostly a bug fixing release, but it also brings some important improvements and adds more convenience. Thank you for all your contributions!

Very much intrigued by this new player listed on the HIMS International website, the SensePlayer. I wonder if they are planning to unveil it in the US at the ATIA conference in a few weeks. Anyone know anymore about this one? himsintl.com/en/daisyplayer/vi…

For anyone interested I'm about to do a test stream on twitch, testing like 3 pieces of software that are new to me at the same time so this should be fun. Gonna be playing through some of the new singleplayer content the Hearthstone access mod unlocked for us recently and chatting. twitch.tv/pitermach

@rikarends I'm in the middle of a big refactor of the base accesskit crate, and on that branch, the crate is now down to zero mandatory dependencies. (It still optionally depends on serde and schemars.) github.com/AccessKit/accesskit… Of course, I still need to strip dependencies in the other crates.

1. Thank you. That was not intuitive at all
2. Serious? I'm not going to argue why its wrong that a _calculator_ calls European Central Bank (yes it also calls there) when I opens it and want to add 2+2. That should be obvious. The currency converter is a very very tiny feature in this calculator that I didn't even know about until now and have no need of using. Anyway, it's fine to have it, but I should be made aware of this.

Dogdy at best...

#UnifiedPush using #xmpp #Conversations :blobheart:

Now #fluffychat (#matrix) gets notifications instantly (using conversations.im server)

Just set what XMPP account (in any server) will get notified and share it in your device

Free/Open source FTW!!

APPS with UP service: unifiedpush.org/users/apps/

(you can set what server will manage the service, eventually: your own)

According to unifiedpush.org/users/distribu…

> Conversations is an XMPP instant messaging client for Android, with the ability to deliver UnifiedPush notifications using an existing XMPP account, on any server. This requires converting push notifications to XMPP messages first, which is done by a service hosted at up.conversations.im.

As far as I could understand,

incoming notification --> up.conversations.im (Push server) --> Conversation (Distributor)

This sounds way, way too familiar...
I think it's not just YouTube for me. I'll do the same with podcasts, even audiobooks. I've become so accustomed to having at least some kind of noise in the background that I feel very strange and naked without it. Whenever I get up from my desk, my first instinct is to grab my phone and headphones, and press play. This is so internalized that I do this literally without thinking. I usually have something up, so when I do press play, something actually starts playing. If it doesn't, something feels off and I quickly find something to play, instead of thinking "Well, I'll just be up for a couple minutes, there's really no need".
And I know that eventually this will cut into what I actually want to do. It's so easy. "Just lie down for a second and listen. Oh hell where'd the day go?". And when it's time to sleep, it's the same thing... Put on something to have noise.
Uh sorry. I guess I just really resonate with this.

Just to clarify: the real controversy was voiding OGL 1.0a.

Imagine MPL-3 saying MPL-2 is void an null and thus any MPL-2 licensed code isn't available anymore, and then MPL-3 doesn't grant you the same rights.

The rest, it will be up to them if it is worth moving forward with the new OGL for the new content, wether sticking to OGL 1.0a licensed content good enough.

I just had the worst #interview of my entire #career . It turned out to be an insightful list of precisely how NOT to attract talent. In that way, it was really useful to me as a candidate.

Presented for your amusement, here's a thread of what I asked. It's going to be a longboi, but here's my absolute favorite:

Taky je užíváte?

in reply to Archos

@archos
Naštěstí taky užívám minimálně. Pokud to jde zkouším jiné metody například chlazení určitého místa.

Dutch workers right reminder: sickleave

Seems like not many people are aware of this: But if you're employed in the netherlands, and you get sick during your holidays, you can still call in sick and it'll be marked as sickleave so you don't have to use up your holidays for it (NL has unlimited sickleave).

CircleCI published an incident report on their recent breach, and it's super interesting! circleci.com/blog/jan-4-2023-i…

The attacker avoided 2FA by infecting a user's machine, waiting for them to auth, and then just copying their session cookie to another computer where they could use it with no local monitoring. Either of two things could have prevented this:

1) Access to sensitive resources could be restricted to trusted machines
2) The cookie could have been tied to a hardware key on the machine

My feature article on "Visualization for the Blind" was just published in the new Jan/Feb 2023 issue of @ACM Interactions. This is a high-level overview of making #visualizations #accessible for #blind individuals, sprinkled with my own personal experiences from beginning in the #a11y space. I even squeezed two Latin quotes in! And thanks to my close collaborator Jonathan Lazar for his mentorship. DOI: 10.1145/3571737 Read the fulltext here (no paywall): interactions.acm.org/archive/v…
