Looking for more internship project ideas for Outreachy (December-March cohort)
GNOME is interested in participating in the Outreachy December-March cohort, and while we already have a few great projects, we are looking for experienced mentors with a couple more project ideas. Hurry up, we have until September 11 to conclude our list of ideas.
You can mark schools, universities and colleges on there, together with a lot of attributes, such as the capacity of the school, gender segregation or applied pedagogy
The LED signage above tracks 1-2 of station Schiphol Airport (or Schiphol Railway Station) works again after being off for years. It shows only the train destination and some animations about waiting space.
- Kicked off #email #gateway project (nlnet.nl/project/EmailXMPPgate…) using IMAP/STMP. Basic gateway should be coming soon. - Preparing next major release: web frontend design & internal improvements in progress. The release will be *huge*. - Started new desktop frontend; more details to follow. - Aiming to resume blogging and weekly videos this week, if time allows. - Targeting a Libervia-based service by the end of the year.
I'm a little confused. The what's new document for the .4 beta already has the second item in the first beta. Were their further optimizations made? Specifically, the entry reads:

I remember #NaNoWriMo's innocent early days of simply cranking out a terrible first draft without your internal editor interfering, and then watched in disappointment over the years as it became institutionalized and started taking itself way too $eriou$ly.
This latest misstep isn't terribly $urpri$ing, and they surely won't be the last arts organization to make a tone deaf decision related to "AI" non$en$e.
At this point, dunking on Google's AI summaries for bad/wrong/hilarious summaries is almost too easy, but I came across this one this evening, and I love it
@bryansmart @ZBennoui Can's speak for Maschine, since I do not use it, but not sure I can access more of Guitar Rig's content. Perhaps I'm missing a trick? Native Access's redesign is certainly good, but I am not sure if we gained much in terms of efficiency. All of these changes are happening sooooo slooooow though. :) NKS support is spotty. I guess, I will take whatever is given, I don't want to sound trumpets just yet! :)

Oh boi, do I have thoughts about #nanowrimo. Disclosure; I have written millions of words (most of them technical), I have done #NaNoWriMo a few times, and I have been writing about #AI since the early 90s.
#LLMs are NOT AI. LLMs are vacuums which sort existing data into sets. They do not create anything. Everything they output depends on stolen data. There is no honest LLM.
This year, Nano is sponsored by an LLM company, and after pushback, they said anyone suggesting AI shouldn't be used was "ableist and "classist"....which....whooweee , that's a mighty bold stance.
LLMs are being sued to hell by authors for slurping up all their content. The reason you can "engineer a prompt" by including "in the style of RR Martin" is because the LLM has digested ALL of RRMartin.

I work in recycling. No one wants plastic. This greenwashing has been known for years among insiders and people who dug into it but I'm glad to see it getting wider reporting!
I figured it might be good to have a centralized topic on it. Of course the best usage advice is to avoid it if at all possible, but unfortunately it's the only platform that offers some games.
