A few years ago, I wrote a web audio game based on an old Eureka A4 game called Aliens. The original version was purely audio. I just added some visualisation to see whether it would be potentially more engaging (and easier to learn) for sighted folks. Given that I'm totally blind and not particularly adept with CSS, the visualisation is kinda crappy, but I got my kids to help me check that it at least works. I haven't had anyone with sight test it on mobile, so it's likely completely broken there and thus I'd recommend desktop for now. Anyway, here it is if anyone's interested: files.jantrid.net/aliens/
@KaraLG84 Haha. They don't kill you though. If you miss them, you just miss out on bonus points. They can confuse you though when there are a lot of other things happening.
@KaraLG84 The original game had a slightly different sound for commanders. I might need to do something like that here, though I'm not sure it'd make things easier, just more interesting. What do you think?

This is a maintenance release that targets Android 15 and fixes a crash.
The app will look slightly uglier on some devices, due to Google's changes in how drawing over the system and navigation bar works. Sadly, supporting proper edge-to-edge requires extensive rewrites (help very welcome!), so I opted to at least ensure we target Android 15 before any deadlines.
@sihaha Apps targeting older Android versions tend to work fine on newer ones due to how backwards compatibility works on Android, but targeting newer Android versions has 2 clear benefits: 1. Google has one reason less to kick you off Google Play 2. There are generally slight security improvements (small hardenings here and there)
The downside is that it can take a lot of work because Google tends to change a lot every Android version.

I've been using Skype to talk with my parents since I moved to Canada, that's the tool they know and switching to something else for them is gonna be super hard. Now Skype is forcing them to switch to Teams, a buggy and bloated tool made to be a gateway to sell services. It's Microsoft, so I'm not surprised at all, but still, disappointing.
I'm in a similar situation but I'm going to try MyTello. You can set it up to dial a local number from the home phone to talk to someone with a number registered around the globe, or call via their app. I've only done one test call so far, but might be an option.

if they only call with you I guess Jitsi via browser would suffice. bookmark the link for them, and yourself, maybe even secure it with password and they can use it without struggle. or you do it via Signal, element, Jami....there's lots of desktop clients that offer encrypted communication for free. just introduce them to one and they will happily stick with it.

Video conference: Jitsi Chat: Telegram Chat, file exchange: Matrix Email: Our local ISP's email. Our godson uses some paid email service (US based) but not Outlook or Gmail. Sister-in-law uses Proton Mail.

New in GNOME 48 is the necessary support for keyboard handling by the Orca screen reader in Wayland sessions. As I reported on the Orca mailing list recently, I have updated my system, and this support is so far working as intended. You need Mutter 48 and the latest AT-SPI installed.
@Jason J.G. White Yes it's amazing @GNOME #a11y is moving into the right direction but I'm afraid it's at very slow pace. Within Gnome 48 we do have reworked keyboard input handling. Now we need mouse emulation and in the future we'd like to have touch screen gestures and related screen reader features. The interaction between gnome developers and screen reader users is one direction only. New features are being added, some bugs which we can tolerate are introduced along the way and we do need to wait at least some 6 months until these are addressed at a platform level in an upcoming release.
