Time for yet another AI-powered add-on for NVDA.
This one is called Vision Assistant Pro.
It uses Google Gemini and requires the API key that Google provides for Gemini. For now, the free-tier key works fine.
What makes this add-on different from similar ones is that it offers dedicated shortcut keys for different tasks. You can separately recognize a screen or an object, solve CAPTCHAs, do dictation, translate text, or analyze files — each with its own hotkey.

@x0 I'm not aware of anything blocking add-ons updating on our end - could just be the authors haven't uploaded them / the latest version to the store yet? Re that new one, sounds interesting - and being able to solve Captchas is good - that is something we regularly get asked about. We have tended to avoid it because once we can solve it, so can malicious users, therefore they will eventually update it & we'll have to start again. But it's good to have a solution.

Anybody know some good blind/screen reader friendly utilities for better managing virtual desktops in Windows 11/10? I use 4 to separate out my workspaces. I'm blind, so this is the next best thing to having multiple monitors. Better yet, each desktop has its own separate alt+tab app switcher list. Unfortunately, it's a frustratingly manual process micromanaging which apps open on which desktop and moving apps that opened in the wrong desktop on startup. I would love something that can make sure apps/app windows open in the right desktops, or at the very least have some keyboard shortcuts so I don't have to dive into the task view and faff around with context menus to move apps around. As far as I can tell, Windows simply doesn't have any native keyboard shortcuts for this stuff after you hit win+tab

Top 5 reasons GNOME is awesome:

1. Distraction-free: we respect you and include personal digital wellbeing features

2. Accessibility: we work to make computing accessible to all

3. Design: we make a cohesive, modern experience that looks great

4. Free and Open Source: we preserve your freedoms

5. Privacy: your data is yours, and we respect that

If these resonate with you, consider supporting us today! We're aiming for 1,500 #FriendsOfGNOME by the end of the year.

This is one of those days when I have to constantly remind myself who I am, and each time, the self-assurance keeps getting fainter, like a blown speaker.

Yes, that's right, I am losing it.

At this point in life, I am at least aware enough to know I am losing it. Some day, it will be too late.

Vanadium version 143.0.7499.52.0 released

Changes in version 143.0.7499.52.0:

  • update to Chromium 143.0.7499.52

A full list of changes from the previous release (version 143.0.7499.34.2) is available through the Git commit log between the releases.

This update is available to GrapheneOS users via our app repository and will also be bundled into the next OS release. Vanadium isn't yet officially available for users outside GrapheneOS, although we plan to do that eventually. It won't be able to provide the WebView outside GrapheneOS and will have missing hardening and other features.

That NVDA translate addon is just amazing. Like @kc is writing in German, which I don't understand, but the NVDA addon just translates it to English with very few issues. From Tweesecake, from anything NVDA says, that can be translated. So I can understand some of her thoughts! Like just imagine that. She speaks a different language, with probably different thought processes, and yet, there they are, for me to consider in my language. Amazing!

Does anyone know why my LibreOffice Calc table (no formatting, no calculations, less than 200 data sets, 47 KB) suddenly blows up to the absurd size of 18.5 MB(!) when I save it as a .csv? And how I can fix this?

Good morning, all. How is everyone?

Well, I’m officially 34 today. I wound up crashing hard for most of the night, but the good news is that this morning I feel pretty good — aside from the usual arthritis pain in my feet and hands and not being able to find one of my slippers, so I’ve had to walk on the hard floor barefoot. Lol. I’ve looked everywhere, so I’ll probably have to ask my mom for help when she gets up.

I ordered both compression gloves and socks, but my socks won’t be here until December 6th, and my gloves won’t come in until the 12th.

While in the Bay area this week attending a Meta Wearables Summit, ACB's Claire Stanley and her guide dog, Tulane, took a Waymo ride! Autonomous vehicles like Waymo continue to expand mobility and independence for people who are blind or have low vision. Coalitions such as United for Autonomy, which includes ACB as a member, are working to advance federal policies that support the safe, effective deployment of AVs nationwide. Pictured is Tulane on the floor of the back seat, enjoying the ride.

#Google Starts Sharing All Your Text Messages With Your Employer

“ #Microsoft triggered a viral furor when it revealed a Teams update to tell your company when you’re not at work.

Now Google has done the same.

Forget end-to-end encryption.

I just listened on YouTube to Mignon Fogarty (Grammar Girl) interviewing Peter Sokolowski, editor at large at Merriam-Webster, about the release of the 12th edition of the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. As a word aficionado and someone who genuinely enjoys the world of lexicography, I found it delightful. If you’re interested in this field, don’t miss it.
I was personally hoping to hear whether the Kindle edition of the dictionary is worth buying in terms of words being linked and the headwords appearing in the table of contents, but that understandably wasn’t addressed in the interview.

Tonight's Low Quality Ad is for this Baby Yoda Christmas Stocking.

The plan: You guys buy 1 million of these. Using my newfound influence, I meet with Disney and convince them to cast Danny DeVito as Baby Yoda in the Mandalorian movie. No CGI. Just DeVito painted green.

*Winter in the tents is unbearable…*
The wind cuts through our bodies, rain seeps into our worn-out blankets, and nothing protects our children from the bitter cold.
Their feet are bare, their clothes are thin, and their bodies tremble from the freezing weather.

*We need winter clothes, warm blankets, and a proper tent to shield us from the harshness of winter.*
Every bit of support from you means warmth — it means life. 💔

Something is changing my default output device to 24 bit 96 khz. It is annoing, because it doesnt change the imput device, so Reaper can not open it in wasapi. Today it probably broke my vdo ninja recording, which was half a speed. It seems that this happens after lenovo or windows update. Lets see if I can create some script which will monitor it and let me know when this happens again

I'm looking for a new job!
Last year, I successfully launched a completely new product as a Product and Tech Lead, which has already delivered several million texts this year via a freely configurable workflow engine.
I live in the Stuttgart (Germany) area, but I'm a fan of asynchronous communication and remote work. Flexible working hours are very important to me.
