One crucial bug fix was related to the coordinates of the subscription bounding box. The coordinates (after a subscription has expired and the resubscribe feature was used) might be swapped (so lat is long instead). Please check your subscription and remove it if it is incorrect, and re-add the place. You can check the bounding box by pressing the icon to the left of the place name.
Other improvements are: - a notification self-check feature - an easy check to switch between distributors - bug fix with a parser error with biwapp alerts

@schlumpf @daniel Our server is currently not able to push to up.conversations.im. We always get timeouts. It works with a local test server, and only the server on alerts.kde.org is affected, so that it might be on your side this time. Can you check if you might be rate-limiting our server?

@daniel @schlumpf Mh ok, I checked the server logs, and it seems like we are getting 404 responses here. Can this be related to deleted registrations for push notification on your server? So, if a user registers and later removes their registration, and we attempt to send a notification to that user, do we receive 404 responses in that case?
endpoints expire on Conversations so a certain number of 404s is probably expected. However if you try with a new region in FOSS warn expiry can be ruled out as a reason.
@daniel That's due to our mechanism to protect us from running into timeouts all the time. We had quite a few issues with that in the past. We set a flag for servers where we can not deliver push notifications. The flag expires after 5 minutes; during this time, every request to the server is aborted due to the flag. So in this case, the error is that we set the flag in cases where we should just delete the subscription. Is there an easy way to let a conversation's up registration expire to test that?

Last year, all the residents of my apartment building (most of whom are in their late 70s) were invited to get together and bake pepperkaker (Norwegian gingerbread cookies). Some of them met up, baked and decorated the cookies, or just came by having a toddy and chat for a bit. A box of cookies were then placed in the entrance hall every Sunday during Advent (and all week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve) for everyone to enjoy. They did the same thing again this year and I just love that something like this is possible.

Don't you understand? If an AI sees my content in training, that's a violation of my human rights, even if that content never directly appears in its output. When a Mastodon users copies my post... they're a Mastodon user, they have the absolute right to do so, and nobody can tell them otherwise.
#freesofadvent Day 7 is #deltachat by @delta Use it everyday to communicate with family across a variety of devices. And now they're adding voice and video calls. PLUS, the small applets within the conversations, like grocery lists, are super useful.
Just reading up on #DeltaChat and it does look interesting as a possible signal alternative. Even deploying your own relay seems easy too. Anybody here using it and has any positive feedback ? I mean share if you've negative too as it'll all be gratefully received by all.

It is indeed quite a frictionless switch imo. One thing I would point out that needs to be ironed out is for the notifications to work 'as expected' out of the box.
I think there's a manual step required currently to ensure notifications keep working in the background (settings -> notifications -> enable 'use background connection' and 'force background connection')
That's the only inconvenience I, and my friends, have faced so far.

there is something that can happen and will happen to new people: uninstall Delta Chat and lose the account. Is there a way to warn people before uninstall? Maybe not, but it'd be great to be able to prepare a text warning about second devices or backups, even offer a link to download backup file...?
@sarae state actors could run #chatmail servers, and maybe that is happening today. But the server does not get private data, and can not break the end-to-end encryption, and so does not see any metadata like profile names, avatars, group memberships etc.

apart form that, for getting in contact, it is handy if one party has a camera. and for adding a second device, it is handy if the new device has a camera. both have alternatives by passing links around, yeah, still, there is room for optimisation
@bjoern @Delta Chat Not initial install, but additional install, which requires you to create a back up on one of your devices, then transfer that backup to the new device if you can't snap a pic of the QR code
@Delta Chat @bjoern Yep, but it could be easier, look at Signal which offers a link in addition to the QR code IIRC (its been a while since I used it), or Telegram which sends a code to your other devices. Heck, you could make it where I put in my user ID, and generate a code on one of my other devices for better security than either of those two
@vextaur @r10s Delta Chat also offers to copy-paste the link instead of scanning the QR code. Contrary to Signal, the link only works in the same wifi to avoid attacks like this one: dailysecurityreview.com/securi…
But yeah, a simple improvement could be that it doesn't matter anymore which device scans which QR code. This wasn't available at the time when we implemented it. Now, other priorities take up our focus - but it isn't forgotten, don't worry.

@anedroid unencrypted email use cases have been discussed in the support forum already and the outcome is: our focus is on end-to-end encryption and metadata minimization, along with helping to grow a world-wide federated reliable chatmail relay network run by many 3rd parties.
Instead of sticking to the old 1.58 delta versions it'd likely be better if you recommended your friends to use another email app that directly focuses on unencrypted mail handling if that is what you are looking for.
Or, if you really wanted to be stupid, there is a 10 meter repeater with links on VHF and UHF. You could tune into that, and I could yell at you from one of the linked repeaters on the system, and you theoretically could yell back at me. Actually that would be a fun thing to try, especially at night, because that system is completely 100% dead then... of course, assuming you can even hit that machine from Don's place at night. Ten is weird like that.

So, I'm not sure if this was ever supposed to work, but now it definitely doesn't.
When WatchOS 26 came out, I got per-voice settings on my Apple Watch 10 under settings > accessibility > voiceover > speech, then for each voice. I found this very useful, as I use Eloquence on my watch. By turning down the ultra-lows by a ridiculous degree and decreasing the head size, I could make it sound quite a lot better on the internal speaker.
Well, I was playing with betas, and forgot to turn it off. Tonight, my watch updated to WatchOS 26.2, and now the per-voice settings are gone for all voices. Weirdly, my custom voice, based on Reed, which I called "Freaky Little Eloquence", is still listed in voices on my phone in the Watch app, but not as English (United States), just English, and it no longer seems to be associated with anything, as I can't add it to the rotor. It's just this orphaned, useless voice that still has all those extra sliders.
So, yeah, that's fun. No more freaky little Eloquence for me, I guess.
