It's 2026 and we have no fully satesfying messenger for blind people. WhatsApp, well no need to say anything. Telegram, Image (can't imagine most germans switching) and IOS apps get less accessible e.g. no voice over focusable edit feald etc. Signal, Desktop client is trash for screenreaders, ignore request to add TalkBack actions to Android apps, accessibility doesn't seem to be a high priority Delta Chat, Yeah actually not to bad, though no web client through a browser, but as long as there is a portable app for Windows I guess that's doable, not sure atm. What did I miss?
@x0 I tryed to at least prefer it over WhatsApp by using a WhahtsApp Bridge bot, it has potential, but well yeah the client situation is sad, cuz it could be really great.
Not mad at Whatsapp, and we know people working on it that are actively fixing accessibility things, so if there's feedback to share, share it to them. I do miss the old Desktop app.
@cubic I do the same because almost every modern client is absolute bloat and nothing is my standards of accessible. I use Miranda NG with XMPP and for those that donāt have jabber, I have a VOIP phone number for SMS with JMP. Honestly, this has worked out the best, just going back to SMS and VOIP numbers over XMPP because every client is utterly terrible

@thoralf No good/accessible Desktop clients. Setup overhead (at least for non techy people like my parents would be). I've tried it a while and I liked the WhatsApp bridge for example, but well, not convinient for reasons above.
The basic setup with the default server shouldn''t be more complicated than setting up a Signal account. And the multi device handling is much better than the crap Signal is doing.
Signal Desktop isn't too bad, more manageable than Telegram on iOS IMO. So is Threema, the Android/iOS apps are actually pretty good, the desktop app is manageable.
@ToniBarth Haven't tried Threma yet. Will also wait when I read about selling to this and that company. Companies get sold all the time. In fact, Threema has been sold in 2020 already and so far nothing bad has come of it. Stay vigilant, but so far a company being sold to a capital invest company is nothing unusual.
And the WhatsApp website is broken again. When you arrow through the chat list in NVDA focus mode it only says section section section. Please can there just happen some sort of wonder and an accessible, nice messenger with good web clients but also native desktop client appears which can actually can compete with WhatsApp? I wouldn't use it if it wasn't for everyone else, and I'm already locked from tons of other social media. It is not possible to quit WhatsApp in germany without loosing 80% of information from your social life.
I don't even mean the web desktop client with this, I mean the web.whatsapp.com thing. The web client is as stupid though, focus mode to jump through messages and chats, but want back to anything else, browse mode and web navigation with tables and all that other crap. How can we fuck up a messenger as hard as possible. Meta, yes!
Mmm and now simply when I arrow around through the chat list in browse mode it jumps focus to some random older chats. Fuck this pile of garbage, please please why is noone doing anything about this nonsense.
@TomGrant91 For instance, I arrow up to the search box, then arrow down back into the chat list and it will not focus on the newest chat, it'll just bump focus to some random older chat in the list.
I'm unbelievably still on the accessible client! The app version I've always had without going on the web! I know, don't ask me how, but I'm still using that.
@TomGrant91 Even if I got the accessible desktop client back, as long as I use WhatsApp I need the website because I need to chat with my Taxi or other people from my work Laptop on which I can't just install and mess with random apps. The issue I'm currently describing is only related to the website. While beeing mixed with the already existing frustration about the web windows client. Everything from this platform is shit. Heck Meta is shit all said.

I have a rather peculiar #Android problem. - I use personalDNSfilter (zenz-solutions.de/personaldnsfā¦) to block ads system-wide. It's basically like running a local pi-hole using a local VPN. - I would also like to use Orbot (#Tor) and run some apps (specifically Nextcloud) that don't natively support proxying through Orbot's VPN.
The problem is, Android won't let me run two VPNs at the same time. And blocking ads without a VPN would require rooting my phone, which I don't want to do. However: - personalDNSfilter can expose the DNS server on port 5300 without using the VPN (which is useless in itself). - Orbot can expose its HTTP and SOCKS proxy without using the VPN (which is also useless in itself).
Is there some way to setup a custom VPN that would combine these two things, i.e., let me route some apps through Orbot's proxy and use the local DNS server (provided by personalDNSfilter) at port 5300? I was looking at OpenVPN for Android (github.com/schwabe/ics-openvpn), but I'm honestly really confused. Help please? š Boosts appreciated.

I would suggest that people switch to a service that advertises privacy and charges a fee. It has been obvious for more than a decade that services like Gmail need to make money somewhere, and selling your data is the most obvious way to make money. AI is just the next level.
I never had any Gemini anywhere. I always disable "smart" features everywhere because I want my systems to be dumb and just follow my orders, no matter what I order them to do, and not to do anything I haven't specifically asked them to do. Also, I have always disabled any voice assistants everywhere because I don't want to talk to computers with my voice. I've never been a fan of the old SF trope of talking computers. I want my computers (including smartphones and tablets) to react to keyboard/mouse/touch input, and I want them to always do the same thing when I do the same thing. I don't want them to figure out what I want of them because I know exactly what I want to do, I know exactly where my files are, and I want full control. I don't want a machine to be my assistant, I want machines to be tools that don't do anything without me.
I see some people already wishing for 2026 to be over and for 2027 to be here... If you knew what's in store for 2027, I'm not sure you'd make that wish.

nice comparison. I agree with most of what you write with one exception.
For me, Rouvy is my favourite for just riding. The sometimes more rapid grade changes where you can power up a small bump without ruining your ride makes it for enjoyable. Maybe my inclination to do fartslekj both when running and cycling might be part of why this is appealing to me.
Zwift however is great for group rides, community and racing. For me however the gamification went too far. I have friends who love the micro improvements for bikes, but I hate it and almost quit Zwift after that. I know I can just ignore it and ride, but unfortunately I am unable to.
At the beginning of October, I got to do a couple of great rides outdoors and decided to sign up for Rouvy. Now Iām back to riding regularly on Rouvy. I kept my Zwift account because I enjoy the occasional race.
I'm still using GMail but I wouldn't like to. I'd like to switch to Tuta permanently, but especially the web and iOS app have still some accessibility issues. On the web interface checkboxes aren't detectable (the ones of e-mail messages) and iOS app has some bugs while writing e-mails. Keyboard focus doesn't always follow VoiceOver output

Iām on macOS using VoiceOver and trying to set a custom Discord keybind for āDisconnect from Voice Channel.ā Iāve added it in Settings ā Keybinds, but I canāt tell if itās actually saving, and the shortcut never fires when Iām in a call.
Has anyone gotten this working reliably on Mac? If so, what key combo are you using, and did you have to do anything special to make it stick?

I just added a small improvement to accessiweather: being able to import/export settings to copy them from machine to machine. However, if I can convince the Toga/BeeWare team that portable apps can indeed exist on macOS as well as Windows, maybe they can implement something to allow it. Briefcase is the real issue, though it certainly has its issues though overall it makes it easy to build and package the app with a few commands, though the config method they have for all platforms to save user settings saves it where each platform usually does, E.G. %appdata% on Windows. With my WX implementation, my make.py script had to do a bunch more shit. If I did that over again, I'd probably try to switch to Nuitka instead of the abandoned pyinstaller.

I just pushed an #NVDARC for iOS update. Here's what I've added this time: Adds a new feature I'm calling Gesture Presets. The idea is that you can set up your three finger swipe actions to send keys you want them to send, and then save them as a preset. Then, you can set up more keys, save that as another preset, etc. Then, a new picker item will appear in the connection window, where you can quickly switch between gesture presets on the fly. I need urgent help. the RSGames client isn't working. I've tried reinstalling and even running the client as admin. Nothing. Is my computer no longer able to handle it? I have all the redistributables installed. Should I just delete the entire client instead of just uninstalling it? Is there some sort of python trace back or something, and if that requires coding to fix it?
1: Open your run dialog. 2: Type %temp% and press enter. 3: Look in this folder for a folder named gen_py or similar. If it exists, delete it. Try to run the client again.
@Bri I tried that. However, it still doesn't want to work. Should I uninstall, delete that folder, reinstall, or then, is there something wrong with python?
