Lesson learned: Don't buy at goretroid.com. Apparently they have no warranty whatsoever. The screen from my device doesn't work.
After mailing in the flaw, goretroid.com demanded video proof. After sending that in, they offered a 10$ rebate or sending a second screen that I would have to exchange myself. This is unacceptable.

Ooh, I'll be able to mention this to people I recommend Libre Office to if their iffy of installing a program from a random website recommended by a librarian. (Not that I personally find app stores all that much more trustworthy anymore.)

Will we accept contributions down the line? Sure. Of course. Is now the right time? No. But soon :)
(Believe me, I can’t wait for that either. But right now the bottleneck isn’t fingers on keys; it’s making sure the core design is sustainable longer-term and meets our success criteria. Maybe I should have made it clearer but it’s not _just_ code that needs to be written.)

Is there a way to turn off email validation? This instance is running on a home server with no email support, so I can't send email to say gmail for instance.

Not easily. All the password creation/reset features currently involve emails. However, you can request a password reset email for one of your users, then grab the password reset hash from the user database table, build the password reset URL from it, and send it to your user.
Let me know if you'd like more information on how to do this.
One can also set the user password as admin from the bin/console tool from the command line on the server and then send the password to the user reminding them to change it. You wont have to manually craft the reset URL, but you should check in a week that the user really changed their password.
Theres also a possibility to set up your own mail server (even behind a dynamic ip). Wouldn’t recommend it, but it’s possible and works well with some work on installing, configuring and communicating with the big isp‘s like gmail, t-systems and so on.

@Laura There is a screen reader called orca that works on linux desktop. For speech output you need speech-dispatcher and tts engine such as espeak-ng. It's available from distro package repositories. Websites are accessible with both Firefox and Chromium.
Any ODroid uses in my bubble? I have a C4 running Android. And I want to enable TCP/IP debugging for it. I can run adb shell via USB, but how do I enable adb via Ethernet?
@Bubu cool. that will probably be that same then. Is there anyway to make this permanent? Because that board is supposed to go into a rack at some point.
@root42 @Marcus I have seen a Philips Android TV 10 device with no wireless debugging in the developer options. Enabling USB debugging allowed me to connect to to it using TCP port. So perhaps it's worth trying.
