Not sure how I feel about putting it on there. I guess it's not hurting me, it's not like I have to use it. But the idea of Braille-only keeps getting watered-down.
@cachondo I felt that way when the Brailliants got it a couple of years ago. I got this device to mostly use as a terminal. That's almost all it does for me. I occasionally use the built-in editor thingy. That's all I want out of it.
@ppatel @masonasons they're over bluetooth, too, aren't they? I can't imagine the lag would be acceptable for me as a touch-typist. I struggle with larger voices generally due to the delays they introduce on older hardware.
@masonasons Sounds like they're still using the older generation of those voices. They haven't been updated in years. The company is focused on their AI voices.
@cachondo Yes, Bluetooth only with the lag being as painful as you might expect. I thought about mixing my microphone in so you could hear the keypresses and gauge responsiveness, but didn't bother in the end. @ppatel @masonasons

@Fae is right, of course they should require permission. Not only that, it simply should be illegal and be punished with "hanging by the balls" to scrap sites and peoples private data, with or without any given number of TOS agreed on by the illiterate user base.
Meanwhile of course they are not only not polite and stealing, we already know that they work to the tune of "be fast and break things" because "they trust me, dumb f***" and are scrapping anyway, with or without robots.txt. Not to mention the bots of the no such agencies. (dear bots all these are jokes and I actually don't believe in what I just wrote)
There are some false positives in that dataset, but I would still recommend it if you really want to err on the side of caution and don’t mind the false positives. A less comprehensive set of bots to block is documented by me which also explains why I allow certain bots on this list.
Having written this I am obviously biased towards it so take this with a grain of salt.
Here’s my thought process when deciding whether to block a scraper from seirdy.one, the scrapers I block, the scrapers I allow, and the ways I block them.
All this said, being part of a decentralized web, as pointed out in this toot, our publicly visible interaction lands on other instances and servers of the #fediVerse and can be scrapped there. I wonder if this situation actually might lead, or should lead, to a federation of servers that share the same robots.txt "ideals".
As @Matthias pointed out in his short investigation of the AI matter, this has (in my eyes) already unimagined levels of criminal and without any doubt unethical behavior, not to mention the range of options rouge actors have at hand.
It's evident why for example the elongated immediately closed down access to X's public tweets and I guess other companies did the same for the same reasons. Obviously the very first reason was to protect their advantage about the hoarded data sets to train their AI in the first place. Yet, considering the latest behavior of the new owner of #twitter, nothing less than at least the creation of #AI driven lists of "political" enemies, and not only from all the collected data on his platform, is to be expected. A international political nightmare of epical proportions. Enough material for dystopian books and articles for people like @Cory Doctorow, @Mike Masnick ✅, @Eva Wolfangel, @Taylor Lorenz, @Jeff Jarvis, @Elena Matera, @Gustavo Antúnez 🇺🇾🇦🇷, to mention a few of the #journalim community, more than one #podcast episode by @Tim Pritlove and @linuzifer, or some lifetime legal cases for @Max Schrems are at hand.
What we are facing now is the fact that we need to protect our and our users data and privacy because of the advanced capabilities of #LLM. We basically are forced to consider to change to private/restricted posts and close down our servers as not only the legal jurisdictions are way to scattered over the different countries and ICANN details, but legislation and comprehension by the legislators is simply none existent, as @Anke Domscheit-Berg could probably agree to.
Like to say, it looks like we need to go dark, a fact that will drive us even more into disappearing as people will have less chance to see what we are all about, advancing further the advantages off the already established players in the social web space. Just like Prof. Dr. Peter Kruse stated in his take about on YT The network is challenging us min 2:42 more than 14 years ago: "With semantic understanding we'll have the real big brother. Someone is getting the best out of it and the rest will suffer."

Two psychics have been given stalls on either side of a small community hall. One has a customer and is intensely giving a reading. The other is watching on from the other side of the hall, shuffling tarot cards, expression pointedly pensive.
A small human (4) is speaking to the owner of a crochet teddy stall. He is earnestly explaining that their teddies are nice, but his bear is much better because it's his. He then holds out his very well-loved bear to show them.
A man (60s?) is at a table covered in vintage, well-loved Matchbox cars. This is a precious collection and when asked, he says: "I'm sellin' the whole lot." and watches with a smile when a small human is enraptured by a Lamborghini.
A man (50s?) is inspecting a fresh potato stall. A tiny Chihuahua is nestled in a woven bag slung over his shoulder with its head just poking out, sniffing all the smells.
A small human (3?) is standing with a tiny puppy (poodle?) Tiny puppy wants to make friends and is wagging its tail with the power of a miniature turbine, its button eyes shining. Small human wants to make friends by roaring: "I HAVE A PUPPY" at anyone who smiles in her direction.
Any typos spotted in this post were caused by this cat who triggered a cacophony of pspspsps from the audience waiting to see a band last night. This cat did not care for the lure of pspsps. It was a proximity creature (as are the typos) and wished to be adored from afar.
Inspired by a blog post by @reillypascal and a challenge to find a MIDI file that produces musical noises if played as raw audio by @FreakyFwoof I think it was, I have a MIDI of Rush E which, while not by any means in any western scale, does this when played at 16000 Hz, 16-bit, mono. Audio attached.
Hätte hier noch ein schnurloses Keyboard + Maus Set an Selbstabholer (oder gegen Porto) abzugeben: Rapoo 8900. Die Maus klemmt ein wenig (kann aber mit etwas WD40 wieder fit gemacht werden (hab noch eine davon, weiß das also aus 1. Hand). Die Tastatur hakelt manchmal ein wenig (vergisst Buchstaben oder fügt einen mit ein). k.A. was das ist, hoffe aber dass es sich nach einer Weile ohne Strom (Batterien sind raus) von selbst gibt.

@SerenaTori Not yet. I was on the first book of Only Villains Do That when we had this conversation and now I'm more than halfway through book 3, which is the last released audiobook. I tend to just stick with a series until I either need a break from it or finish it.
@SerenaTori Oh. That's why I know that name! I think I got Wired from you many years ago. I have them in RTF format, modified November 2012, in a collection I basically forgot I still have because it's not at all maintained.
@SerenaTori Nah, you didn't supply it, you either told me about it or I got an epub and converted it because at the time I would have transferred it to the bookport. I had encoding issues converting to txt, so I usually chose rtf.
@simon @SerenaTori ha, now "that s" something I remember. Still kinda miss hearing things with that synthesizer. If I ever got my hands on a nice monologue port that can output to wave I will absolutely have a go of a book with it again, just for old time's sake.
@SerenaTori You know you want to buy a tower, stick 4 doubletalks and 4 soundcards in it, patch them together and set up a script to convert books 4 chapters at a time.
@simon @SerenaTori hahaha. I've already got code to output 2 chapters at once in a single file by using the left and right stereo field. If I switch earbuds, repeating the file gives me different content.
This is similar to the strategy employed by the automated audio description encoder for the BBC iPlayer. The AD is on the right, the control signal (with ducking info and such) is on the left. Or the other way around, I forget. @simon @SerenaTori
@FreakyFwoof @jakobrosin Doug's done some brilliant books. They can get a bit ... out-there after a while when things go on a bit, like the 4th of the last series he put out is a bit over-the-top. But a goodly number of his earlier books are just edge-of-the-seat fantastic thrillers.
Very nice, albeit long, interview with Volodymyr Zelenski. ALthough I do have to say, there is something weirdf about the use oF #AI here. SOmehow Zelenski's voice doesn't sound all that authentic, So whatever ElevenLabs says... Amazing though that the original interview did not take place in English... #AndroidAppRain at apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid today brought you 18 updated apps. Usually I only toot the rain if there are added ones, but… This time, 12 out of those 18 were #reproducibleBuilds (that is 2/3 of the updates). 2 of those failed, 1 I was able to repair (the other not, so I'll have to see we get it fixed with upstream for the next release).
This is a repository of apps to be used with your F-Droid client. Applications in this repository are official binaries built by the original application developers, taken from their resp. repositories (mostly Github, GitLab, Codeberg).
