Totgesagt? Keineswegs. Rund um Jabber (XMPP) gibt es nach wie vor eine erstaunlich engagierte Community. Der Digital Independence Day hat ordentlich Bewegung reingebracht: Innerhalb nur einer Woche entstanden Info-Folder in drei Sprachen – komplett layoutet von @digitalcourage. Deutsch und Englisch wurden noch rechtzeitig zur FOSDEM gedruckt, Französisch folgte als PDF. Ja, ein paar kleine Fehler sind noch drin – Version 2 kommt asap. I started a documentation repo for #FOSDEM advise - for new and old visitors, attendees and speakers. I figure we can crowdsource it so bring your pull-requests. I will greatly appreciate help.
If not, I will populate it myself slowly over time but it won't be as good.
Good morning. Starting my trip to #FOSDEM at this ungodly hour. Local traffic to Helsinki Central, train to Turku, ship to Stockholm, night train to Malmö, and so on. Will stay a couple of nights on the way in a city where I haven’t been before: Düsseldorf, and from there take a bus to Brussels because of the Belgian train strike this week. Or, if the ICE trains from Cologne to Brussels seem to be running reliably anyway, go by train. Using #Interrail .
Here's my #FOSDEM advice. Go. Enjoy. Don't worry. You are among friendly geeks and nerds who will happily help when needed. Enjoy the fries. The waffles. The presentations. The beer. The booths. Collect stickers. Buy the t-shirt. Is all :) Be yourself and come with an open heart and mind.

Contributions of governments to #OpenSource are often unsustainable - fragmented, short term subsidies, feature work or new things. Nothing shifting billions of tax money from Big Tech to open source!
The public sector should work with existing communities that have managed a sustainable financial model. Commit to deploy these & shift real procurement money!

Each year we are excited to see how many NLnet grantees we can spot in the list of @fosdem speakers. This year is a new high with over 100 speakers! Another record will be broken at our hex sticker table. We'll be bringing over 300.000 stickers featuring more than 300 unique hex designs. Something I'd really like to see from @fosdem - a graph of which social media addresses speakers have on their profile / presentations over the years. Last year it was still quite disappointing that the number of people with Mastodon on their slides was quite low. Maybe something for the stats session at the end? #FOSDEM #fosdem2026
