Shouldn't DebConf make a clear statement that although it accepts money (sponsorship) from corporations with abominable reputations in relation to the #FreeSoftware community, there will be no tolerance of suppressing criticism of any of those corporations during DebConf?

It looks rather shocking to see Microsoft and Google logos in association with Debian, but as long as participants are "fully allowed to bite the hand feeding them", the compromise could at least be defended.

As I wrote in a comment, I think we #FreeSoftware folks and #Guix in particular must address the shortcomings of traditional distros that make flatpak appear necessary. Instead we must design for practical user freedom.

The alternative is: more control for software vendors, or more power to users?

💡 It leaves out the important reminder that many of the #digitalPublicGoods used to create this so-called "public #infrastructure" have their roots in #FreeSoftware, which allows citizens to control of their own "digital lives" without government or quasi-government corporate #surveillance as intermediary.

e.g., I may have a Chinese-made phone sold with Google's #Android spyware, but because it's #OpenSource I am free to install a privacy-protecting OS instead.
