Your Fedi account is probably run by a volunteer on a server with no Service Level Agreement. Downtime happens! Failures happen.
You should plan for outages by having another account on a server operated by someone else. Even if it’s just the mastodon.social account that you first signed up for. You can leave it dormant and redirected until disaster strikes.
You can cross-verify your two (or more) Mastodon accounts by putting the URL of one account into the four metadata fields of the other account. Don’t forget the https:// prefix!

Das sieht ja echt total durchdacht™ aus: Die eine Hälfte der Bevölkerung KANN die CB-Warnungen gar nicht erhalten, weil man sich für eine Option entschieden hat, die erst ab (minVersion von Gerät/OS) verfügbar ist – und die andere Hälfte findet die Einstellungen nicht oder weiß nix davon?
Ganz ehrlich sieht das eher nach einer bewussten Torpedierung aus. Wollte man ein wirksames System, hätte man nicht auf diese Einschränkung (1) gesetzt 🤦♂️ Traurig.
@IzzyOnDroid wie an andere Stelle im Thread bereits beschrieben, wird morgen keine Testwarnung sondern eine echte Warnung versendet und werden... die sollte bei jedem Gerät was den Mobilfunkstandard korrekt implementiert per Default auslösen!
@jr Ja, den Part habe ich verstanden. Deshalb auch das "(1)". Da man sich für einen Standard entschieden hat, der erst ab Android 11 unterstützt wird, fallen andere Geräte unter den Tisch. Ich bin schonmal neugierig. Hier liegen 3 Geräte bereit und warten auf das Pling. Mein Verdacht ist dass, wenn überhaupt, nur eins davon "klingeln" wird. @kuschelkirche
@IzzyOnDroid @jr Nein, man hat sich wohl eben gerade für einen Standard entschieden, den auch ältere Geräte unterstützen. Nur neuere differenzieren da halt nochmal optional.
Huch? Wann wurde das geändert? Meines wissens will man die 4-stelligen IDs nutzen. Ältere Geräte unterstützen aber nur 3-stellige IDs. Siehe hier: heise.de/ratgeber/Cell-Broadca… Könnte mir vorstellen, dass ältere Geräte dann ggf. einfach nicht filtern können. Aber ob sie dann unbekanntes durchlassen oder blockieren… sehen wir morgen. Ein Gerät mit Android-8 liegt auch bereit. Sowie eines ohne SIM (stand ja nicht da, dass eine drin sein muss) @jr

Weil Ansich ist ja CB schon seit GSM Zeiten Teil des Standards und jedes Gerät wird ja für den Standard zertifiziert und muss CB dementsprechend eigentlich implementieren...

@Andre Polykanine I like to use app.element.io/ in firefox both on linux and windows. Thunderbird matrix support is useable too. Element android app is verry accessible and I like it too. There is an excelent matrix client for emacs called ement-el if you are into such things. On linux semi accessible GTK4 based desktop client is fractal. I don't know of any windows exclusive matrix app.

Since it's December, I thought I'd pull out this weird little file for Mastodon. A wacky MIDI rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas. Contains lots of key changes, the fifth day is rendered in a different genre every time it appears, and it ends in a fun way. I still have no idea who wrote it, when it was created, or what it was written for, though the earliest version I've found has a timestamp of December 1, 1993. The 6th of December is traditionally the day when Santa comes and brings small gifts to children in Poland and several other countries (not to be confused with the 24th of December which is also when gifts, bigger ones, are distributed). Obviously somebody's got to pay for all these nice things so how to do it in an accessible way? I thought of including Handsome, a French fintech dedicated to serving customers with visual impairments, as a part of this calendar, as it offers an accessible voice payment card; a dedicated concierge service, insurance in case of damage to assistive devices or stranding with no immediate mobility options. They can be found at: howtobehandsome.fr/ Imagine my shock this morning when I discovered that through cooperation with the Tales Group, Handsome's voice card has become global so it's a matter of time before banks start introducing it. The card is equipped with a Bluetooth LE chip, connects to the customer's smartphone either through their banking app or a specially designed one; then, once its inserted into the terminal, it delivers all of the status messages to the app E.G. the amount to be paid or the current state of the payment process. This way it is possible to avoid being scammed on the amount and we can make sure all is well with our transaction. So if you belong to a w3c member organization, my suggestion is that if you have opinions then you should express those opinions to the voting representative of that organization (their "advisory committee representative"). 7.5 - still no fix for that bug in OsX that makes Writer crash when using macOS internal dictation. This bug exists for years. Dictation in a word processing software seems quite important to me.
