This tactile graphics device, the Cadence from Tactile Engineering, looks promising. tactile-engineering.com/cadenc… No published pricing or direct retail sales at this time; apparently they're only selling to institutions right now.

What makes this more interesting than, say, the Monarch or Graphiti Plus is that the base device is the size of a smartphone but thicker, and you can combine multiple devices for a larger tactile display.

I used the Cadence in a demonstration at a conference in 2019. When up to four devices are connected to a host system via Bluetooth, the software can treat them as though they comprise a single display. The cell refresh rate is fast enough to sustain basic animations (for example, an object that moves around the display - i.e., the composite of four devices - in real time).

The software has presumably improved a lot since 2019, and I don't know the current state of development. The Monarch would suit my personal needs better, but I'm glad the Cadence is on the market - even if just for institutions currently.

@Unreed @archos strčit láhev do myčky a čekat, že je umytá, není jen tak. Ten dudlík se hodně špatně čistí a myčka z něj nedostane všechno. Problém je i s těsněním, protože špatně vyschne ta tenká mezera kolem a dělá se tam plíseň. Navíc tablety do myčky z plastů uvolňují další chemii nebo narušují povrch lahve, takže záleží na typu plastu. Ty "zdravější" plasty ale nesmí do myčky. Moje kovová tam taky nesmí.
Škoda že článek je jen o tom, že kdo nemyje láhev, tak jí má špinavou 😀

But I think the author is completely right about Altman, Ive, and the like desperately trying to invent a new kind of device, to repeat what Apple did with the iPhone, when we don't need or want that kind of innovation now.

Re: last boost (the last post from this thread: mastodon.social/@GeePawHill/11…), I admit there are some thoughts that I've only shared with an LLM (usually Claude), even though I know, if I think about it, that what I'll get back is just a statistically generated response, not an actual thought in return. There are some things I've been afraid to share with other humans, for fear that I'll get criticism in response, though in some cases, criticism may be what's needed, as long as it's constructive.
