@pax We have a small team and a lot of high priority work to juggle. When that bug was first filed, MacOS 13 was in beta. None of our team were able to run it; running a beta OS (or even a newly released OS) is not without its risks. That bug is also very obscure; it seems to be due to a somewhat inexplicable change in VoiceOver, and as usual, Apple's documentation is poor to nonexistent.

Calling for feedback from Women in the Blind and Visually impaired communities who use Reaper and Osara. We need your opinions regarding the start of a regular women only Reaper meetup.

"Hey there people,

A while back someone asked me (not in so many words) "have you noticed that these DAW accessibility communities tend to be sausage-fests?"
It's a fair question. I know that women are out there working on music, podcasts, sound design and everything else that we talk about here. So, how come we're not seeing posts from them as often?

JennyK and I would like to find out how women feel about the REAPER accessibility community right now, and we intend to bring about more of a balance.
One idea we've been batting around is that Jen could start a regular meet-up for women who are either already using REAPER and OSARA, or who're interested in getting started. With the balance of regular posters being what it is at the moment, perhaps slotting a question in around 600 sweaty dudes waxing lyrical over workflows might be a bit overwhelming? We want to make absolutely sure women feel welcome here, and figure out whether there are things we can do to increase the presence they have in this nerdy space.

The first task is to identify whether what's written above is on the money. If this sparks any interest with you, pop your thoughts into this form. With Jen being an energetic Excel enthusiast, she's well-placed to collect and crunch some data.
There are fields in the form to include your name and email, but they're optional, choose what you're most comfortable with.
forms.office.com/r/B3smmbLyQ3

Just so you know, Jenny will be the only person receiving your responses in their entirety, handling your data with care and making sure that everyone remains anonymous when she summarizes the findings.

All thoughts and opinions welcome, every take matters as we work out what's best to do next.

Cheers,

Scott and JennyK"

Solstice thought:

I've always thought it was awesome that long before any technology for astronomical observation, our ancestors figured out, through observation only, that the movement of the Earth on its axis made certain times of year the peak of its curve, and other times the center of the transit. And that at both the peaks (solstices) and centers (equinoxes) everyone went "Woo!" and built fires and held festivals.

This claim is false.

Law enforcement has the ability to get stored communications from companies like Twitter under 18 USC 2703(d). This is a famous "d-order" that has to be signed by a judge.

Companies can demand reimbursement under 2706. You can argue that 2703 should have a higher standard, but if the government can get to user data should it be free or should the companies ask for a nominal cost?

This is absolutely nothing to do with content moderation.

It's a tricky one. On one hand, a toolbar reduces clutter in the tab order, which can make things more efficient. On the other hand, it has the range problem you describe, plus it makes it harder to have keyboard shortcuts which don't require you to focus the specific control. For example, in Firefox, when you're focused on the play/pause button, you can use left/right/home/end to seek, up/down to adjust volume, all without having to find the specific control. But you can still tab to the control if you wish, which is great if you don't know about the shortcuts.

You're welcome. In case it's helpful, here's the Firefox bug where this was discussed (at length, over a long period of time and with many differing opinions). I'm linking directly to the comment where the most recent plan was laid out, but earlier comments might provide some interesting food for thought. Or alternatively, they may make you wish you'd just been rickrolled instead. :) bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.…

The accessibility for the blind advent calendar: day 21 - Europe
If you would like to be up-=to-date with happenings in Europe in regards to blind and partially sighted people, the European Blind Union has just launched a new podcast today called EBU In Action.
It is a bit of shameless promo as yours truely is one of the hosts so I hope you don't mind me and we look forward to the feedback.
In our pilot, we go over the current campaigns and initiatives the EBU is involved in, we find out about the expectations and fears of blind people regarding Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and we finish off with our correspondent's section where we go to Italy to check what is new for blind people there.
If you have suggestions of topics that should be brought up in future episodes, feel free to share.
