I would love to encourage y'all #GUADEC attendees to use the "Download" button from the event's Indico platform (that button is in each event's details page) to use it directly in #GNOMECalendar, but… it turns out that you'd run into this silly timezones bug where the event importer dialog considers UTC times to be the local time 🤦
So… can I motivate someone to send a merge request for gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-c… ? This would be timely for #GNOME's main conference next week 😉

OK, there we go – and apologies for the delay, but there was heavy #AndroidAppRain at apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid today with 21 updated and 1 added apps:
* Musikus: your personal practice companion
One app returned to #IzzyOnDroid on request of its author, though it's also available at F-Droid:
* LogFox: a LogCat reader
JetNote was removed, as announced earlier – and Occtax switched to a proper signing key.
Enjoy your #free #Android #apps with the #IzzyOnDroid repo!

This is a repository of apps to be used with F-Droid. Applications in this repository are official binaries built by the original application developers, taken from their resp. repositories (mostly Github, GitLab, Codeberg).IzzyOnDroid App Repo

Before the update run completes & app-rain toot comes, some other exciting news from the #IzzyOnDroid repo that won't fit in there:
* JetNote was removed as it still used a debug key for signing.
* Occtax switched to a new and proper signing key, using key rotation, so even direct updates are possible*.
So gitlab.com/IzzyOnDroid/repo/-/… could finally be closed. There should be no debug-signed apps at IzzyOnDroid anymore after the next sync.

*Your F-Droid client will most likely not even show the update unless you have "show incompatible signatures" turned on – and even then refuse to update. But downloading the APK and installing it via your file manager, or using "adb install" should work to update it without uninstalling, keeping all data intact.
@j_r technically possible yes. Practicable no, for multiple reasons:
* you'd never get hold of the signing key used by F-Droid
* you should not give them yours either
* even if you would or they would, their setup would not allow it (that part of fdroidserver was broken back in January/February, as I just mentioned again). It would however work with IzzyOnDroid. But then a "seemless switch" would only be possible with NeoStore or Droid-ify, otherwise manual actions would be needed (as outlined)
@Sentinel999 and now look at the "provided by": Installed from F-Droid, update from IzzyOnDroid. Most likely FairEmail is not RB at F-Droid, but let me check… Bingo. So F-Droid ships a version signed with their key, while IoD ships it signed with Marcel's key. Expected behavior.
> I disable the sig check only.
Which is why the update now is offered to you *despite the different sig*. This only makes sense if you override sig check in the system eg via an Xposed module. Better switch it back 😉

So, this is like, one of the first times I've done this, but I wanted to show a bit of installing Fedora Linux on my laptop. I'd already started the installation, but it shows most of it, and a bit of setup afterwards. I recorded this on my iPhone, so it won't sound the best. A few things I forgot to mention:
* You cannot buy IBM Viavoice (Eloquence) for Linux anymore, but it's of course still floating around.
* We also have DecTalk on Linux, obvious from the BTSpeak using it.
* You can also get Vocalizer voices.
* There's also Piper of course.

Universal Code Execution by Chaining Messages in Browser Extensions
By chaining various messaging APIs in browsers and browser extensions, I demonstrate how we can jump from web pages to “universal code execution”, breaking both Same Origin Policy and the browser sandbox.spaceraccoon.dev
“However, to go beyond existing research and web-only impact, we can turn to another browser extension capability: native messaging. This allows background scripts to communicate with native applications running on the host operating system itself. For example, password manager extensions that retrieve passwords from the native password manager application on the desktop.”
This is why you don’t want your password manager to integrate with your web browser.

Yup, it's true. Firefox 128 includes new adtech features that are turned on by default and announced with very little fanfare, so most people might not even know they're there.
Well, this is me telling you they're there. You might want to go ahead and take a minute to opt out.
Here's the little helpful explainer from Mozilla about how it all works:
support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/p…
My read seems to be: Mozilla says website surveillance is generally bad and should be defended against. Cool. No notes. Firefox actually has a lot of nice anti-tracking and privacy features there and that's the main reason why I like Firefox.
But, and I swear I'm not even joking a little bit here, Mozilla goes on to say that advertisers might be happier if Firefox itself just tracked you directly and sent activity reports back to them.
Doesn't that sound great?
Now, to Mozilla's credit, they claim to anonymize the activity reports. And you can still meaningfully opt out of the whole system.
But WTF, mate?! I use Firefox *because* it fights against adtech. Or at least it used to. Now, Mozilla just lets adtech right in the front door and hopes you won't notice?
Well, we noticed. Mozilla is damage and we need to route around it.
UPDATE: The about:config setting for this is `dom.private-attribution.submission.enabled`. It's a bool. Set it to false to turn it off.
