protože mi jakožto uživateli otevřené sítě Fediverse nemohlo uniknout jednání Vašeho právního oddělení vůči zrcadlícím RSS botům pana Šnora, nemohu situaci ponechat bez reakce.
zpravobot.news/@CT24zive/11360… Na začátek chci uvést, že nejsem s panem Šnorem nijak spřízněný a mým zájmem je pouze zachování normální kultury v rámci otevřených internetových komunit.
Nejprve mne sice jednání právního oddělení velice rozhořčilo, nicméně jeho zavádějící zhodnocení toho, co na síti reálně boti pana Šnora dělají přičítám neznalosti technologií systémů napojených na Fediverse a celkově principu těchto robotů.
Vezmu to postupně:
1. "(...) účty jsou koncipovány tak, že v běžném uživateli vzbudí dojem, že se jedná o oficiální profily České Televize (...)"
- Toto tvrzení se nezakládá na pravdě (viz přiložený screenshot) - všechny účty jsou označeny jako "boti" a že se jedná o zrcadlení oficiálních účtů + bot uvádí, ze kterých stránek importuje.
2. "K článkům a příspěvkům, které jsou veřejnosti sdělovány na oficiálních účtech a webových stránkách České televize, vykonává veškerá práva Česká televize (...) jejich další užití je možné pouze s výslovným souhlasem ČT (...)" - Při této logice by veškeré vyhledávací enginy na internetu musely mít výslovný souhlas ČT k indexování obsahu. Protože však ani webové vyhledávací enginy, ani zprávoboti pana Šnora nevydávají tento obsah za vlastní, nemyslím si, že se tady jedná o jakékoliv porušení práva ČT k vlastnímu obsahu.
3. "Na Vašich účtech (...) žádáte o finanční podporu (...)" - Pan Šnor sice na stránce zprávobota o finanční podporu žádá, nicméně nejedná se o monetizaci obsahu tak, jak to vyhodnotilo Vaše právní oddělení, ale o příspěvek na provoz, samozřejmě HW a jeho provoz něco stojí a veškeré dary jsou dobrovolné. Opět se rád vrátím k mému příkladu search enginů - při této logice by Vaše právní oddělení totiž muselo u Google požadovat odstranení placené inzerce u vyhledávacích výsledků zahrnujících stránky České televize - což si přes svoji právní naivitu rozhodně neumím představit, jako reálné.
Právní stránku ochranné známky vynechávám záměrně - tam situaci chápu, byť ji považuji právním oddělením za nesmyslně vyhrocenou.
Dopis adresovaný panu Šnorovi v podstatě říká, že i jako uživatel sociální sítě nemohu odkazovat na Vaše články, protože nemám výslovný souhlas ČT, což je naprosto absurdní a v podstatě v rozporu s účelem veřejnoprávního média vytvářejícího zpravodajství z povinných koncesionářských poplatků o jejichž navýšení televize usiluje. Chci tímto tedy požádat ČT o vyřešení situace tak, aby věc byla právně v pořádku - ať už se bude jednat o udělení výslovného oprávnění k sdílení příspěvků v rámci sociální sítě Fediverse (které si ale přes to všechno nemyslím, že je potřeba) anebo otevření Vašich vlastních účtů.
Zároveň bych chtěl připomenout, že pokud jste schopni za peníze z koncesionářských poplatků umožňovat zisk soukromým sociálním sítím, bylo by vhodné neházet klacky pod nohy tam, kde si plátci poplatků poradili sami. Naopak si myslím, že je třeba brát v potaz, že se v principu jedná o reklamu na stránky ČT a za to by ČT na jiné sociální síti platila.
Rozhodně, ale už se mi nejednou stalo, že podobnej předem-prohranej boj vyšel.
Třeba Budvaru jsem psal/volal (už je to dlouho, nejsem si jistej), že jim utekla vadná šarže piva. Zavolal nějakej jejich manažer, že moc děkuje a tahle šarže měla bejt dávno celá stažená. Pak přijela krásná obchoďačka a s úsměvem mi dovalila 50 plechovek :D
@schmaker Haha, zase úplně to samý. 🙃 Mám to teda chápat tak, že fakt věřej tomu, že posílat na sítě odkazy na jejich články je protiprávní? Se jí možná zeptám ještě jednou na tohle. 😄

Ideální by bylo, aby tam byl odkaz na "případ" pana Šnora, a zároveň by bylo dobré, kdyby se našly předpisy, které by je jako veřejnou instituci nutily se těmi žádostmi zabývat. jeslti je něco jako stošestka...

@rowdyamerican I'm just over 15% of the way through, end of Harry's Third year, and the paternity bombshell has just been dropped. It's a delightfully-written fic with a few Muggle in-jokes, the most attention to Gobstones I've come across in any story, and that wholesome feeling you get from fics that really know how to handle the emotional side of things.
@rowdyamerican I have to ask, what's the primary paring? A fic can be made or broken by stupid pairings and I've rage-quit fics in the middle of reading them after many, many hours sometimes even days when stuff gets ridiculous, based on a bad pairing.
@rowdyamerican I don't know yet, but Harry's leaning toward Gay in this one. The romance side of things haven't been big so far, it's been quite subtle.

And text is lossy, you can't get the stuff back you lose by using it. so much of the blind community is obsessed with lossless audio yet there's this great love of txt files. which were used from the 1960's. They're just not the right medium for long-form literature in the 2020's.
@SeveraSnape @rowdyamerican I'm perfectly fine with text in notepad. It's all about how you consume. For me nothing is lost. I don't want headings or pages in a book, I want a listening experience that jells with my use-case. If I didn't care about audio, I'd likely be happy with 64 K mp3 as well, but that doesn't jell with my use-case. I'm not at all sure they can be compared quite frankly.

@rowdyamerican When I started out collecting, I had them as Doc. Some of them were so big Word would cry. So for me, txt is great and same, don't care about all that, just the story. Though I do admit it's nice to jump by chapter in an epub, but... that would be way too much work to do changing all that. Yikes.
@SeveraSnape @rowdyamerican I don't have an epub reader that I'd care to use, and I *only* ever read on computer. Never got into reading on an mp3 player, never got into voicedream, none of that. I save the line of my book in a text file, copy/paste it back if I have to read across restarts or whatever. It works for me. Lossy reading experience? Really? I don't see it at all.
@SeveraSnape @rowdyamerican well it is obviously lossy for a tactile reader, that's more a fact than anything. you're missing out on the formatting. if you never read with Braille, then no, not lossy.
@SeveraSnape @rowdyamerican I remember getting cross at my book courier because it only supported ascii. so you wouldnt have any smart quotes or dashes, which was ok. But you'd also have words like 'couldn t' and 'haven 't' and so on. Really frustrating!

Krásné #dobrerano děcka! Venku řádí storm Darragh, dnešní program tedy bude postel, počítač, gauč a knížka. V nárazech tady má vítr až 72mph (116km/h), pár mil jižněji je to ještě horší, takže čekám, co to přinese za hrůzy. Sice jsem všechno přikurtoval nebo narval do garáže, ale popelnice a kontejnery venku jezdí rallye.

Thanks for putting that CO2 impact in perspective. Do you know of similar numbers, including comparison points, for individual inference runs for any of the major hosted models?
AFAICT the disclosures for model training approximate the final run. I haven't seen anyone disclose the number of prior failed or discarded runs. Rather than itemize per model the public would benefit a lot more from quarterly business operations reports that includes these figures.
@matt A consumer-level GPU has a consumption of about 400W for 24GB. Datacenters are several times more efficient than that so that's your higher bound.
A theoretically fully loaded GPU should probably be able to output about 10 toks/sec under that setup. A 70B model requires about 3 cards.
400 * 3 / (3600*10) = 0.033 Wh per token
A typical request will be a few hundred tokens long, that would be 16Wh for 500 tokens.
Keep in mind that this is a higher bound for local inference. Datacenters populated with H100 probably have 5 to 10 times more efficient inference.
For context, according to some quick Googling and calculations, ferrying people to NeurIPS (probably the most well-known "hard" AI conference) and back takes around 100 (mostly non-intercontinental) jet trips.
The fact that training a major LLM has far less climate impact than organizing a scientific conference is a very surprising result to me.
I haven't had the time to dive into the Llama 3.3 technical report yet, but from what I heard, their improvements are concentrated mostly around post-training, which I understand to be the far less compute-intensive part of the process. It's also a pretty small model, compared to the likely size of GPT-4o and such. I woudn't be surprised if a full training process for a large model had far more impact than that.
I also wonder whether these numbers are for training the specific models that were shared, or if it also included all the experiments and work that their team performed but that didn't pan out.
