Look, these extreme positions are completely unhelpful. Injecting bleach into your veins is obviously bad, but only a few people recommend that. And, yes, they're trying to sell bleach and are fully bought into the hype. But the other extreme, not consuming any bleach, is just as unhealthy. Bleach consumption is the future. You just need to do it in appropriate places, such as with a meal. I have one small glass of bleach with lunch and then a larger glass with dinner. I drink it, from a clear glass, so I can see exactly what I'm consuming. Obviously injecting it is a bad idea, but drinking bleach responsibly is good for you, as long as you know what you're doing. Of course, I'm an expert at drinking stuff, in the hands of an amateur it might cause problems. Don't be put off by all of the bleach refusers. They're just anti progress. Anyone who isn't getting experienced drinking bleach is going to be left behind. Just drink it responsibly.
Now, some people object to some of the process of manufacturing bleach. Yes, it does involve dumping toxic chemicals in rivers when you buy bleach from the big vendors. But that's why I use ethically sourced bleach, which comes from a factory in China where it has a certificate saying that it complied with all local environmental regulations. If you're worried about the ethical aspects of drinking bleach, always drink ethical bleach.
I've also recently heard people complain that people drinking and injecting bleach has driven up prices and hospitals can't afford to properly clean wards, leading to an increased infection rate. That's true today, but you're thinking in the short term. The increased demand for bleach means that the supply will increase and economies of scale will make bleach prices come down.

So the question is, what is the definition of Google Free? For me, it is by default no connections to any Google server, no usage of any Google app, etc. And the control is fully with the user. And with this definition, as far as I know, there is only #grapheneOS. Others seem to connect at least to the captive portal or supl or connectivity checks to google server

GrapheneOS only supports Pixel devices because they're the only devices that match the security requirements of GrapheneOS. They would use another manufacturer if these requirements would be met.
I would say that even though GrapheneOS requires hardware made by Google, it can be called „degoogled“. Why? Because the phone itself doesn’t use any Google services. It doesn’t phone home and it doesn’t share any data with Google. It’s just a bloody good piece of hardware and currently the best platform for a save and security mobile OS.
But when you consider that degoogling isn’t just stop using any Google services and sharing data with them, but also not buying anything from Google, then it’s probably not degoogling.

@migtorr Graphene is not Google-free. I personally look greatly forward to it supporting non-Google phones, though, as I read they announced. Because besides that con I imagine it's a very good option.
I am incredibly disappointed in Tuta for publishing this blogpost. The options Tuta has presented worsen privacy and security, and this blogpost is is filled with misinformation. This seems counter to their stated goals.

Tuta is a well respected secure email service. When you recommend alternatives, please keep the same standards in mind.
They're essentially all the same design, which is to say multiple camera having, GPS, AIs in the form of digital assistants embedded in them & none have physical keyboards, only Volla is military grade durable in said hardware, but it doesn't work in my country. So for my long-term needs in any smartphone I'd pay for, as they'd work for me year-round, which include having a physical keyboard, no AI and durability, none of these are real options.
*I know what amounts to an open source version of a blackberry smartphone does exist, as I believe sliders (with full keyboards & bigger screens than blackberry) do, both being durable but I've yet to see any #deGoogled phones in those different design categories.
None of these devices with their operating systems are secure and privacy-friendly; quite the contrary, they are a major downgrade from AOSP in security, privacy and usability.
I am shocked that GrapheneOS is not part of the initial post. It should be on top of the list. My dream would be Shift phone hardware with GrapheneOS. I switched from iOS to GOS and I seem to never look elsewhere in the future
I run LineageOS on my @fairphone and I love it, its completely google free and nearly 100% open source software installed, can recommend! wanted to try Murena but that is currently not recommended even by themselves. havent tried the others. would love to run GrapheneOS but I am neither rich nor do I want to buy a Google phone, ever

I de-Google for less than the 100%. by using an iPhone. Perhaps some 90%? I assume Apple and Google still have deals to keep Google the default search egine on iOS and macOS.
Although each option has its own strengths and weaknesses, fighting amongst them does not help anyone. The enemy is the other side (Goo...). I prefer @murena because it strikes a good balance between privacy and usability for the average user.

In response to the articles circulated recently about people who are switching to Linux as their desktop operating system, I note that my first desktop Linux experience was in 1998. I investigated hardware compatibility, bought a new laptop, and a friend installed Linux on it for me. (The installation process wasn't accessible with a screen reader in those days.) I used Emacspeak to provide a spoken interface to the operating system. Unfortunately, my braille display wasn't supported - eventually fixed in the mid 2000s. Graphical X11 applications were not accessible either, but that, too, was rectified in the mid 2000s. In the late 90s, I didn't need GUI tools anyway. The modern JavaScript-intensive Web has changed that situation fundamentally.
Non-visual access to Linux continues to improve, albeit slowly and with highly constrained development resources. Although I've had (and continue to have) other operating systems, I still consider Linux my primary desktop computing environment. #Linux #ScreenReaders #accessibility

Táto téma nadväzuje na zhoršenú bezpečnostnú situáciu v Európe a skúsenosti z posledných rokov, ktoré ukázali, že EÚ nie je na rýchlu reakciu v krízových situáciách vždy dostatočne pripravená. Parlament preto zdôrazňuje potrebu lepšej koordinácie medzi štátmi a odstránenia praktických prekážok, ktoré dnes presuny výrazne spomaľujú.
Jedným z hlavných problémov sú administratívne a technické bariéry. V súčasnosti môže presun vojenskej techniky cez viacero členských štátov trvať týždne až mesiace, najmä kvôli rozdielnym povoleniam, pravidlám a nedostatočne prispôsobenej infraštruktúre. Parlament poukazuje na to, že mnohé cesty, mosty či železnice nie sú dimenzované na ťažkú vojenskú techniku, čo výrazne obmedzuje schopnosť rýchlej reakcie v prípade krízy alebo ohrozenia bezpečnosti.
Dôležitým prvkom je aj spolupráca medzi členskými štátmi a koordinácia s medzinárodnými partnermi. Parlament zdôrazňuje, že posilňovanie vojenskej mobility má prebiehať v súlade so spoluprácou v rámci NATO a pri plnom rešpektovaní suverenity jednotlivých štátov. Nejde o vytváranie „európskej armády“, ale o lepšie fungovanie existujúcich obranných kapacít a ich schopnosť rýchlo reagovať v prípade potreby.
Zlepšenia v oblasti vojenskej mobility nemajú význam len v čase konfliktu. Investície do infraštruktúry, zrýchlenie administratívnych procesov a lepšia koordinácia môžu mať pozitívny vplyv aj v mierových časoch, napríklad pri humanitárnych zásahoch, krízovom manažmente či civilnej ochrane. Parlament preto vníma túto tému ako súčasť širšej stratégie posilňovania bezpečnosti a odolnosti Európskej únie.
Postoj Európskeho parlamentu má v tomto prípade politický charakter a slúži ako východisko pre ďalšie rokovania s Európskou komisiou a Radou EÚ. Cieľom je postupne pretaviť tieto odporúčania do konkrétnych opatrení, ktoré by v praxi zlepšili pripravenosť EÚ reagovať na bezpečnostné výzvy, bez toho, aby sa znižovala kontrola členských štátov nad vlastnou obranou.

So the question is, what is the definition of Google Free? For me, it is by default no connections to any Google server, no usage of any Google app, etc. And the control is fully with the user.
And with this definition, as far as I know, there is only #grapheneOS.

So for my long-term needs in any smartphone I'd pay for, as they'd work for me year-round, which include having a physical keyboard, no AI and durability, none of these are real options.
