I came across a blog from a 2 years ago that compared different implementations of dot product. It had a couple interesting points. The cost of functional programming in #Swift was huge (31x on M1 and 198x on x86). I did an equivalent test in #Rust and the cost was 1x (on M2). That lets programmers use the high level abstractions without dreading the performance costs.

.map(|(&l, &r)| l * r )
.sum::<f64>()

Yes! "HTML First" 👏
html-first.com/
that was a frustrating read.
Of the 6 practices:
1. Yes!
2. Yes! …but the example shown in the article is a bizarre anti-pattern that doesn’t reflect that principle at all.
3. Same as #2.
4. Eh, it depends. Build steps are over-used, but still absolutely necessary in lots of cases.
5. Yes!
6. This point has nothing to do with the rest, is a totally separate ideological debate, and shouldn’t have been included.
A bunch of comments requested an explanation on #Linux graphics drivers, so I decided to take a look at the topic, and explain Mesa, kernel drivers, the Nvidia drivers (Nouveau, NVK, the official #opensource modules, and the proprietary driver), as well as AMD drivers (with RadeonSI, RADV, AMDVLK and AMDGPU, plus AMDGPU-Pro), and Intel drivers (with i915, i965, ANV and the new Xe driver).
I hope it helps make things a bit clearer!

When people respond in negative ways on my blog, I always struggle with where the line is when to just delete it.
I can take that people have other viewpoints and might not like me or my blog posts. Some comments are just... weird.
French educator Louis Braille was born #OTD in 1809.
He was the inventor of a reading and writing system named after him, braille, intended for use by visually impaired people. His system is used worldwide and remains virtually unchanged to this day. He was blinded when he was 3 years old. But when he was still a student, Louis Braille was frustrated by his inability to read and write.
1/
Then, Braille heard about a French army officer who had devised a system of written communication of raised dots and dashes for nighttime battles. He borrowed the idea of the dots, and set about creating an alphabet that could be read by touch. He decided that each letter would be represented by a different arrangement of six dots packed close enough that each letter could be read by a single fingertip. He presented his work to his peers for the first time in 1824.

Kuketz IT-Security Forum ⋆ IT-Sicherheit | Datenschutz

This would actually be a game changer and render the entire AUKUS project pointless.

In the last days of 2023, I embarked on a hiking journey to the Canary Islands.

My journey took me along the #GR131 route traversing #Tenerife and #GranCanaria.
