Their links lead people away from your site and back to Google. Because that’s definitely what you want, right? That’s why you have a blog or portal or web site or whatever. You want people to leave your site and go back to Google.

If you don’t like it, you can “Opt out.” Opting out is a pain in the ass. Here’s where you go to do it. You have to enter every variation of each of your domains or it won’t work. It will take up to 30 days, during which time Google will continue to pollute your work and your writing and your website with their modifications and their added links to take people away from your site and back to themselves.

I agree wholeheartedly with Google's Page Annotations being an absolutely awful antifeature, and recommend that others opt-out and/or protest the feature. I want to make a clarification that doesn't invalidate your main points:
Clicking annotations doesn't navigate away from your site to a Google search; it triggers an overlay with infoboxes about the term you selected. It's similar to the iOS "Look Up" option for selected text. It's wrong to do because this obfuscates what is and isn't a link the author placed on the page. Inserting what appears to be links into the page crosses the line from user-agent interventions, such as adblocking or turning off certain unsafe features (acceptable) to editing an author's words in a way that isn't required for people to read them (unacceptable).
Editing page contents is fine if it's necessary for people to read them, e.g. translations or the WAI-Adapt standards. Both ideally inform the user that the page has been modified. Page Annotations go well beyond that.

I really feel like a lot of big companies are losing track of accessibility. Realistically, implementing these actions might not be a two-second job, but it feels like it should be a priority. YouTube is also getting worse on iOS, where it used to have perfect rotor action support. The feed has gotten more and more cluttered, and most recently, the comments view was changed so that each comment is no longer a single control with actions, but rather a cluttered mess of controls with separate like and dislike buttons. So either there was a redesign without thought to accessibility, or they intentionally removed them on iOS, and neither of those are good. Android is still playing catch-up because actions weren't added as a reading control / granularity option until recently, but Google should be leading the charge and they're clearly not.

After having read the whole article, I am feeling very disappointed with Google as a company who claimed to care about accessibility but in reality, they seem to forget about us and we are pushed to the side. It is like standing in a checkout line trying to reach the front of the queue but people keep pushing you backwards. There’s nothing we can do because whenever you file accessibility feedback with Google, it is completely ignored and we are treated like second class citizens who do not matter to Google. What are the other frustrating points I wish to make is with the phone app. I really do not like the Phone app on the pixel eight device especially when trying to access the keypad and then if you do nothing with the keypad for awhile, that window goes away and you have to locate the keypad button again. It is a very clunky experience compared to the phone app on iOS. Sorry however, long live iOS in this instance.

Credo che quest'ultima frase farà molto piacere a @dieguitux8623 che ha sviluppato l'app. Quando ho saputo che aveva iniziato a sviluppare un'app per Friendica, mi sono permesso di chiedergli due cose:
fare un app che visualizzasse i gruppi Activitypub in modo agevole (e lui l'aveva già fatto perché aveva già creato un'app per Lemmy)
farla in modo che fosse perfettamente compatibile con Mastodon, perché gli utenti Mastodon (per colpa del crucco malefico 😂) non sonoerano in condizione di gestire in maniera intuitiva i gruppi Activitypub.
Infatti con delle app mastodon che ancora non riescono a emanciparsi dall'interfaccia twitter-like, i gruppi dl Fediverso non potranno MAI avere successo. Ma soprattutto, con un mastodon che crede ancora di essere un'alternativa a Twitter, coi sui 500 caratteri in solo testo, sarà difficile creare vere e proprie comunità. Lo strumento non è MAI neutro!

not yet ready for daily use but basic functionality like sending, receiving messages and files and html emails work. notable things that are still in development are notifications, tray icon and webxdc.
Also at this point in time you need to compile from source as there are no "releases" yet.
For now it contains only the most basic functionality - so more for the fellow developers to try out or/and review my code 😉. That being said, it is already surprisingly usable.

good question, thanks for reporting the issue. A friend recently build on arch and it worked for them. Either I introduced a bug in a recent commit, or you may have an environment variable missing. Which commit are you on and which linux desktop do you use?
@treefit I am using gnome 48. I guess I might be missing something as I can reproduce it with various head positions e.g. 364932abf or 76ca7442e. I am using rustc 1.85.1 through rustup 1.28.1 I am trying to follow arch packaging guidelines. I am exporting this variables:
@pvagner so it fails to find the log file that should have been created by the tauri logger plugin. Maybe try to create a new folder somewhere then pointing then env var `$XDG_DATA_HOME` to that directory?
Could be a race or a problem in where log files are created. I couldn't reproduce your issue yet.
@treefit Hmm, I can't get it to work no matter what I'm trying. When I have started my $XDG_DATA_HOME environment variable was not set meaning it should fall back to the default ~/.local/share as per the XDG spec. I have added it into my /etc/profile.d/0000-xdgdirs.sh file, rebooted, rebuilt delta-tauri with its dependencies but I'm still getting the same error. Printing $XDG_DATA_HOME now gives me /home/myusername/.local/share, the directory does exist with 0755 permissions and it contains nested directories created by other apps on my system. Is there a way to find out what the file path and the file name of the resulting log file should be?
@pvagner I think the best way to go about this would be to reproduce this on a vm or get a step by step list that I can follow to reproduce your environment.
@treefit Finally I'm making some progress. It looks as if something is protecting my $HOME/.local/share folder from writing. Folder is created, empty log file is created too but deltachat-tauri can't write to it. Permissions and ownership are okay. Manually writing to that file using whatewer text editor such as nano or gedit is working fine. Changing the location is also working fine for deltachat-tauri such as
@treefit Another take on this. I can build the package in a clean chroot. It builds fine however does not work when running on my laptop. I am suspecting I have some kind of weird configuration here and I can't track it down. It looks as if tauri runtime capabilities are not setup corectly or something to that effect. Logging plugin correctly resolves the path but ability to write in there is not granted. My steps are like this:

@treefit Woohoo! I've found a hacky workaround and I can finally run the Delta Tauri on my system. It turns out writing into the log file is the only thing I find is broken for me. Creating the account and using the delta tauri for chatting is working so far. However as compared to the deltachat-desktop, the electron version, I am experiencing an accessibility issue. When a conversation is active the chat input text entry is stealing the focus and I can't use tab or shift+tab to navigate. Even if I press ctrl+f to focus the search field, pressing tab to navigate to the list of conversations, I can't continue the navigation and focus is placed into the chat input. Running 1.58.1 both tauri and electron versions.

A collection called "XMASMIDS.ZIP" seems to be the most definitive source, and in this collection, it's called 06TWELV&.MID and has a timestamp of November 15, 1993 at 9:35 am. Welcome to December, friends and followers of my nonsense A fairly typical day around here for the most part. The daughter decided that she should read us a Peppa Pig story at midnight, so 'twas a slightly later start than expected. Her bedroom has been redone as a holiday gift and she's now in there. She went for a white and blue theme and has a double bed for the first time in her life, so she's pretty happy about that. She has a festive afternoon at Laser Quest to look forward to, in which I hope to sit and drink coffee and read.
The evening will be TV, prep for the working week, and a start on our more adult advent calendars.
To answer the curious minds on the adult calendars, The good wife bought me cider. 24 500ml bottles from Lilley's, which has become an annual staple. Pineapple yesterday. DeLish it was too.
She, meanwhile, received a bespoke collection of massage oils. I set up an appointment with a perfumer to source a range of complementary scent diffusing fragrences. Last night she had a neck and shoulder massage with a base of sandlewood and something I can't remember and whatever was in that little misting bottle - sorry, memory also gone on its name - really changed it up.
Not sure if we're going full-back or legs tonight, but the whole array of little bottles and the number of combinations is going to be great to explore throughout December.

Heres' a strange piano idea I just did in Ableton. Recorded me playing the Spitfire Piano that comes in Sweet, then just added like six Grain Delay plug-ins on a send and messed with settings. Also tried Ableton's Echo, but removed that by mistake and just went with Grain Delay instead. Sounds kinda cool if you ask me.
Bro I really wanna get all these sounds from Sweet as well at some point. When I start apprenticeship I'll just probably throw the money out for it and a nice midi controller. Like I've always wanted to properly do some music, then I have no excuse to not.

Imagine you’re the most valuable company on Earth. Billions of dollars of cash on hand. Best engineers in the world. You could legitimately leave an impact on anything you work on. And one of the primary things you choose to focus on is stubbornly policing fucking game emulators. Like forget about whether it’s good or bad, it is just so unbelievably small minded. An Apple running on all 8 cylinders wouldn’t have time to give a shit about stuff like this.
Take a moment to wrap your head around the fact that Apple fought a multi-year court battle to try to prevent you from putting links in your app. I get that that may have significant revenue effects — but the point is that a company with Apple’s resources should have way more interesting and impactful ways of generating revenue. There is something deeply broken from a *creativity perspective* if “don’t let app devs talk to users” represents the state of the art in business strategy at Apple.
