Even though it's a complication for me as a maintainer, I approve it.
Windows 10 support ends on October 14.
Help the people around you continue to be protected by helping them switch to Linux. They don't need to go buy a new computer just because Microsoft made a decision for them.

The thing I love about open source is that it's possible for an engineer to not only benefit #Fedora as a project, but the entire #Linux community in a single commit.

All the countless hours spent on the
#Linux Desktop Migration Tool are finally paying off! My wife got a new laptop yesterday. I installed
#Fedora #Silverblue on it, created a user account, connected it to the home network, and left the migration tool running overnight. She could start using the new laptop without any interruption in the morning, and the whole thing took like 15 minutes of my time.

Well y'all, I might have to go back to Windows. With Fedora 42, and Orca 48.6, I cannot use Google Docs well at all on Google Chrome, and on Firefox, the outline view which I use to navigate through many, many headings in a document I need for work, isn't usable at all. I can arrow up and down all I want, but nothing speaks.
I don't want to support this move to amazon. @fedora What does this mean? Do I have to replace fedora?
EDIT: it's possible to switch desktop environments: docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/q…

Building your own Atomic (bootc) Desktop - Fedora Magazine
Bootc and associated tools provide the basis for building a personalised desktop. This article will describe the process to build your own custom installation.Daniel Mendizabal (Fedora Project)
Besides welcoming our new, developing spin in the form of Fedora COSMIC Atomic, we had a few more updates from the Atomic Desktop side of the project.
The main change is the implementation of composefs which brings you "the reliability of disk images with the flexibility of files." This and many of the changes are under the hood to help keep the system stable while introducing more flexibility to users and maintainers.
We continue down the roadmap to bootc!

What’s new for Fedora Atomic Desktops in Fedora 42 - Fedora Magazine
Description of new variants of Fedora Atomic Desktops, and new features and changes in current variants.Timothée Ravier (Fedora Project)
Certain models of Lenovo laptops now ship with Fedora and Ubuntu Linux. This is done to keep costs low and cater to developers or IT professionals who heavily rely on Linux. Another reason could be the increased unpopularity of Windows 11 in recent times due unwanted features like "AI" or "Recall", but that is just my own wild guess ;) LOL. Would you buy it?

I had a talk called "Unbreakable Linux for Entire Family" today. It had nothing to do with Oracle #Linux, it was about concepts and approaches around #Fedora #Silverblue to make a truly free ChromeOS-like system for friends and family.
I was happy to have a full room of people. It's good to see #OpenAlt bouncing back in terms of attendance.
The recording of the talk (in Czech) is already available online:

As exciting as the new features are, please remember that this is primarily for testing. Help us make this release as smooth as possible by directing your feedback to the Fedora Quality Team (info in the article).
Please also help to circulate this in the accessibility community as we want to catch any bugs related to their needs as soon as possible.
Happy testing!
Oh, thank goodness not having a fully functional screen reader isn’t a blocker for Fedora 41. We wouldn’t want them to miss their 10th anniversary of shipping an operating system without a fully functional screen reader, after all.

Hello folks, I had posted this to the original discussion thread last week, but to make sure everyone is aware of its existence, I wanted to post it in this section too.Fedora Discussion
Okay, I think I fixed the link.
So, this is like, one of the first times I've done this, but I wanted to show a bit of installing Fedora Linux on my laptop. I'd already started the installation, but it shows most of it, and a bit of setup afterwards. I recorded this on my iPhone, so it won't sound the best. A few things I forgot to mention:
* You cannot buy IBM Viavoice (Eloquence) for Linux anymore, but it's of course still floating around.
* We also have DecTalk on Linux, obvious from the BTSpeak using it.
* You can also get Vocalizer voices.
* There's also Piper of course.
