Not sure we should block on all the @flathub requirements listed here, but I agree the current Fedora Flatpak model is hurting Fedora Workstation more than helping.

Well y'all, I might have to go back to Windows. With Fedora 42, and Orca 48.6, I cannot use Google Docs well at all on Google Chrome, and on Firefox, the outline view which I use to navigate through many, many headings in a document I need for work, isn't usable at all. I can arrow up and down all I want, but nothing speaks.

My side quest at #FlockToFedora was meeting Petr Šimáček, a longtime #Fedora user and author of @mestskacyklistika. He gave me a tour of Radio Beat, where he works as a news guy, and took me on a one-hour #bike ride to show me all the gems of city #cycling in #Prague.

Flock to Fedora 2025 is streaming live from Prague.

It's on YouTube @ youtube.com/@fedora/streams with a stream per room.

Looking for a new laptop that runs Linux out of the box? Get a ThinkPad!

Lenovo has been offering ThinkPads with Fedora and @ubuntu preinstalled for a few years now. The more people who shop for these devices, the more attention they can give to this business!

Here's an article of someone discovering Lenovo's Linux program: news.itsfoss.com/lenovo-cuts-w…

Besides welcoming our new, developing spin in the form of Fedora COSMIC Atomic, we had a few more updates from the Atomic Desktop side of the project.

The main change is the implementation of composefs which brings you "the reliability of disk images with the flexibility of files." This and many of the changes are under the hood to help keep the system stable while introducing more flexibility to users and maintainers.

We continue down the roadmap to bootc!

Certain models of Lenovo laptops now ship with Fedora and Ubuntu Linux. This is done to keep costs low and cater to developers or IT professionals who heavily rely on Linux. Another reason could be the increased unpopularity of Windows 11 in recent times due unwanted features like "AI" or "Recall", but that is just my own wild guess ;) LOL. Would you buy it?

Meet our new Fedora Project Leader, Jef Spaleta!

As we're excited for Jef to support the community in this role, we also extend a big thank you to @mattdm (who is not leaving the Fedora community either!)

I have a question about the work space switching and I’m sure if it’s a #gnome thing a #fedora 42 thing or a #boxes thing. I have fedora 42 installed in boxes and the behaviour of the work space switches immediately with out animation . This to me is actually shocking/jarring . Can anyone tell me if this is the new default behaviour for work space switching in gnome or should I be looking at another culprit?

Hmm, I must really like the Material Design language, or at least I'm a bit nostalgic for the older versions of it. Check out this screenshot of my desktop using the Materia Dark theme, but with the default Fedora Mate 41 wallpaper... I'd love to know if the use of Roboto is obvious or not. Sorry to my visually impaired followers, as trying to give this an extermely detailed description is a bit difficult. #Fedora #Mate #GTKThemes #MaterialDesign #MateriaDark

The Fedora Project is looking for a new git forge to move to, and right now the preference is toward @forgejo over GitLab. We're looking for feedback one more time from the community before the Fedora Council has a vote on it!

Does #fedora support the old #kickstart format or some other format that allows for install templating?

I had a talk called "Unbreakable Linux for Entire Family" today. It had nothing to do with Oracle #Linux, it was about concepts and approaches around #Fedora #Silverblue to make a truly free ChromeOS-like system for friends and family.
I was happy to have a full room of people. It's good to see #OpenAlt bouncing back in terms of attendance.

The recording of the talk (in Czech) is already available online:

I wish there were more indie GNOME apps (including for example Shortwave, Pika backup, Authenticator, and Monophony) available in the main #Fedora RPM repositories, because waiting 30 minutes for flatpak to download 1 gigabyte of runtimes' delta updates (out of multiple GBs) on a slow Internet connection in rural or under-developed areas (or on mobile data connections), for a 10 megabytes app, is absolutely not fun.

I letos budeme mít stánek na @linuxdays, tak se za námi zastavte, rádi vás uvidíme!
Kromě toho si můžeme v sobotu v poledne poslechnout přednášku o #Fedora Asahi Remixu od @sesivany.

The Fedora Linux 41 Beta is here!

As exciting as the new features are, please remember that this is primarily for testing. Help us make this release as smooth as possible by directing your feedback to the Fedora Quality Team (info in the article).

Please also help to circulate this in the accessibility community as we want to catch any bugs related to their needs as soon as possible.

Happy testing!

Please take this survey about AI/ML and Fedora. We know that this is a sensitive subject, so the Fedora Council spent time putting a survey together to understand what our community thinks about this area of technology.

Last day to take the survey is July 31.

Okay, I think I fixed the link.

So, this is like, one of the first times I've done this, but I wanted to show a bit of installing Fedora Linux on my laptop. I'd already started the installation, but it shows most of it, and a bit of setup afterwards. I recorded this on my iPhone, so it won't sound the best. A few things I forgot to mention:

* You cannot buy IBM Viavoice (Eloquence) for Linux anymore, but it's of course still floating around.
* We also have DecTalk on Linux, obvious from the BTSpeak using it.
* You can also get Vocalizer voices.
* There's also Piper of course.

#Linux #UX bugs like this are frustrating: starting a drag action pops the window forward, obscuring the target window. I'm using latest #Fedora but apparently this happens on nearly all DEs.

The smaller your display is (and the more nontechnical you are) the more likely you'll hit this. Apparently this has been known for a long time and no one cares to fix it? I'm just curious why.

"Not enough programmers" isn't a good excuse, this is a fairly easy fix. @cassidy Devs only use Terminal?

“Buh, Aral, #Fedora is a volunteer project… you a nasty bum-bum criticising us for shipping an operating system without a functional screen reader by default for EIGHT YEARS…”

Meanwhile, in reality: “The Fedora Project is not a separate legal entity or organization; Red Hat retains liability for its actions.”

Who owns Red Hat?

#IBM.

What is IBM? A 150 billion-dollar corporation.

Cut the “we’re volunteers” bullshit, acknowledge your ableist culture, and do better.

For eight years Fedora has been shipping GNOME with a broken screen reader!

EIGHT YEARS!

(Wayland has been default on Fedora for eight years – since Fedora 25, released in 2016.)

And a hundred-billion-dollar corporation like IBM ships operating systems today based on it with a broken screen reader.

What is an ableist culture? One in which the people who call this out get ostracised.

The Fedora Quality Team is joining Week of Diversity with an Accessibility Test Week!

Much like other Test Days, the goal of this week is to put Fedora through its paces and catch as many accessibility related issues as we can for our disable users. If you want to put your advocacy to action, consider participating!

The Accessibility Test Week runs from Jun 19-25, starting tomorrow.

Two Silverblue systems here got hit by the secure boot signature bootloader bug on the upgrade that brought in a new kernel. Good thing there are rollbacks (to boot an older version) and a workaround.

Issue: github.com/fedora-silverblue/i…

Workaround to keep using secure boot (run these commands on a working boot): github.com/fedora-silverblue/i…

Hopefully there's an automatic fix soon? ('bootupd' should be the long term fix for this.)
