Just published an article about how an expert learns - from sight-reading to performing music... on cello using eye tracking technology. it's open access, so freely available: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.11…

Even if you don't read the fancy bits, the progression of the heat maps to show the engagement of the eye and mind are very cool ! #research #music #cello

Does anyone have these things that they love and would recommend:

- Bluetooth speaker (portable)
Not smart. I don't need to ask it anything. Just something I can connect to that will make good music sounds in my house.

- CD player
Something modern that connects to the computer so again I can throw it out to speakers. Or something that connects direct to speakers?
But being able to rip CDs like the olden days would also be good.

Ta!

did you know that you can make some interesting phasing rhythms with Ableton Note while you wait for your coffee machine to descale? Unfortunately you might need to use up a whole channel for each pattern, but still

Make one channel's pattern 7 1/8's long and fill it with some random velocity percussion, and another one maybe 12 steps long with 2 hits, and just let them play off each other until the water overflows and your socks are wet with gross cleaning products and coffee'd water

Most presenters lose a significant amount of their audience 10 seconds into their lecture, because they play it safe. Not this one. The question is, what is real #music and is AI ruining it?

A lost recording of a Pavarotti concert in a Welsh village is released.

The Decca label celebrates the late tenor’s 90th birthday with the out-of-print archives of the Llangollen Competition, which he won in 1955 as a member of an amateur choir.

‘The Lost Concert’ also includes the first two recordings of Pavarotti’s career.

Heeeyyy Fedi!!! I have a question that I *know* a bunch of you are going to be able to answer.

For the past couple decades I've wanted an electric guitar, but my ex always shot it down. So, now that I've escaped that abusive relationship, and with it nearing the holidays again, I've decided I'm going to finally get one.

Last time I played guitar was in middleschool (and some bass in highschool), so I'm starting from scratch.

My constraints:
- 6 string electric guitar
- under $200
- used/hand me down is great
- pink would be awesome
- probably right-handed (because that's what I learned on)

Does anyone have a recommendation (or better yet, an old guitar near Seattle that could use the sweet, sweet love of a new owner?)

I looked at Amazon (🤢) and found something that seems like it fits my needs, but I hate supporting them, *and* I have no idea if it's garbage or not.

#TIL Arvo Pärt, one of the greatest composers of our times, a big name in minimalist, sacred and classical music, celebrated his 90th birthday on September 11. Estonia can be proud of him, definitely. #Music

I felt like listening to some Javanese gamelan.
Gamelan has 2 tuning systems, sléndro and Pelog. Fun fact, if you can't remember which has 5 notes and which 7, count the letters and you'll know the wrong answer! Each gamelan set has a unique tuning, so although people have tried to define sléndro as near-5TET and Pelog as near-9TET with 2 skipped pitches, this doesn't really work without a perfect octave.

I think one of the most important things that a parent of a young child can do is to help them manage what I call the “heartbreak of growing up”: those recurring moments when the child realizes that what they thought was true turns out to be not-so-true, that something they thought was simple turns out to be not-so-simple, and that the world turns out to be much more complex and so much harder than they ever expected.

I make it a point not to call any child “smart” or “talented”because these are words that can often harm them when they meet their next heartbreak of growing up. Instead of telling them that they have innate abilities to *succeed*, I tell them that they have innate *resourcefulness* and *problem-solving skills*. Their next failure should not shatter their self-image; but rather call their creativity and fire into action.

Anyway, this #music #video captures so perfectly the heartbreak of growing up.

Hi there!
I'm Astra - an indie producer from Ukraine.
About a year ago I started releasing my music - at first it was simple #ambient, and now I'm exploring new sounds and ideas.

I'm still a bit shy about my voice, so there’s no vocals yet.

My dream is to live off my music one day and leave the job I don’t love.

If my sound resonates with you, just listen - that already means the world to me. 💙

Music from the 1970s that remans timeless, no.26

Bob Marley. Three Little Birds

Bob Marley's emergence in the 1970s was part of the rise of reggae as a global musical genre. I could have picked one of his are politically tracks, but this is one of the tracks that cemented his reputation far from the reggae aficionados. Its a lovely lilting rhythm with an organ riff at its centre & the Waliers doing a great job of backing Marleys's distinctive voice. Still fab!

Thank you, thank you a thousand times for having said what I've been thinking my whole life. I just don't get and don't feel this mass of chaotic mess with no melody, no harmony, no beauty, no nothing, this metallic noise someone calls #Music. Unfortunately, everything from the start of the twentieth century (I'm talking about academic music) is trash, with really little exceptions like minimalists and some composers who do write music, but otherwise it's just a hodgepodge of random notes.

The only remaining part of my computing world that is not yet on Linux is my audio/music production work. Formulating a plan to try and make a move there, too.

Would love to connect up with anyone doing this seriously on Linux. I'm totally okay with re-tooling a bunch of my software stack, but I'm trying to figure out a good, solid audio interface that will work well for serious use under Linux.
