One of the things I really miss after moving to #Linux from macos is the power that #Mailmate gave me. #Thunderbird does get close but lacks a bunch of things. #Betterbird has been working well for my needs. One feature I miss is the distortion mode from Mailmate (freron.com/screenshots/) as I tend to share my screen a bit. Does anyone know of any plugin/setting that would help? Tried looking for loremipsum, obfuscate, etc., but to no avail.

I wrote a Dart package for speech-dispatcher, enabling TTS on Linux. It also works with Flutter for Linux. The package supports most features of speech-dispatcher, with additional support for less commonly used functionality like history coming soon. It still needs broader testing, so feel free to open any issues you encounter. My hope is that one of the TTS packages for Flutter will start using it to add Linux support, as most, if not all, currently don't support Linux.

You can find the package on GitHub at github.com/the-byte-bender/dar… and on pub.dev at pub.dev/packages/dart_speechd.

didn't know this before, and didn't have to because i haven't installed windows in the past 10 years. but for those who need to do this, this workaround should be known:

Thankfully, there remains another way to install Windows 11 without a Microsoft account. When you’re at the log-in screen, you can hit Shift + F10 and type OOBE/BYPASSNRO, which will let you create a local account instead if you do not have an internet connection (so disconnect the internet for this).

Screenshot of Windows 11 installation step of account creation

a@a.com is redundant but Shift + F10 OOBE/BYPASSNRO comes to the rescue.

How fast can you type? Find out with my new app, Keypunch!

I've worked on this for the last couple of months, and it's finally out. Keypunch lets you practice your typing skills with automatically generated pseudo-text in your language of choice. Alternatively, you can supply it with your own text, such as song lyrics, Wikipedia articles, and quotes. Get ready to accelerate your typing speed!

Get it on Flathub: flathub.org/apps/dev.bragefugl…

Shout out to Text Pieces! I needed to URL-encode a big ugly string (creating a template form from URL parameters, yay!) and yep, sure enough, it made it stupidly easy.

The next time you need to encode, transform, or convert some text on Linux, reach for this pretty little offline app instead of pasting your data into some random website. 👍

I was sad to find a surprising lack of visual scripting apps for Linux. Apple's Shortcuts app is very powerful and can be incredibly useful. It's not like we don't have the technical ability to make something similar.

So I started working on one myself :blobfoxfloofcofe:

Here is my new GNU/Linux distribution guide about Debian KDE 12, the right GNU/Linux distribution for professional digital painting in 2024! Also about three major problems with GNU/Linux distros that will drive away all professional artists, IMO, and how I got kicked out of the Fedora KDE ecosystem with F40, which imposed Plasma6 and Wayland. I hope it helps other artists here!

Linux blind users, listen to this and let me know what you guess this actually is, and most importantly, what you think! I'm just gauging interest as this is still in its early infancy, and I was wondering if it was worth continuing. As you can infer, I'm already far enough to have a working yet incomplete prototype!

With #Microsoft introducing #Recall which will screenshot your screen to monitor all activities on your device, this begs the question...

What #Linux distro will you be switching to?

Since I've migrated from screen to tmux years ago, I always felt that missed screen's excellent support for serial devices.

But recently I found github.com/tio/tio which was developed exactly with that use case in mind and I couldn't be happier. Such an amazing tool.

This is great but can we please also have Fedora (& Ubuntu, etc.) acknowledge they started shipping operating systems without a functional screen reader when they switched to Wayland and that that’s still the case?

This is not to name and shame. Unless we acknowledge this as an error on par with shipping without monitor support and unless the culture is altered to make accessibility a showstopper, it’ll happen again.

Some code related to "PFCP offloading" or "PFCP tunneling" has just appeared in mainline linux. Oddly enougn PFCP is not a tunneling protocol, and the code itself claims its not implementing PFCP. And of course, thank you to the free & open source projects & communities of Linux, Debian, and GNOME for many of the improvements we’re shipping in Endless OS 6.
