The site has grown to a catalogue of over 300 different musicians, spanning a wide range of different sounds and genres. After refining search and discovery features, project lead Ben Pate has decided to focus on introducing a payment system for music sales.

@BTyson it can certainly impact speed of browsing. if you're using something like a neural voice, for example, sending a massive string with a single line of 20 horizontal links has a significant speech output delay when compared with browse mode off.
No worse than reading a whole paragraph further down the page, of course, but perhaps more common, depending on the sorts of sites one browses.

I am really happy to announce today the release of version 1.5 of the Stream 3 software.

With the help of our wonderful development team here at HumanWare and our great beta testers, we have today a release that has both new and returning features,
as well as bugfixes, that will please you.

I've attached the full release notes for the version to this message, but here are the highlights:

Ability to rename notes
Upped the limit to 24 hours on recorded notes in mp3 and flac format - wav remains 8h due to file size
Bookshare API 2.0 support (reading list support and human narrated books)
Bookmark alerts are back
Audio/text switching for books that have both
Browse beyond the first 100 results in Internet Radio searches (ooTunes)
Volume warning happens less often (every 20 hours of use, suspended on shutdown or suspend)
Bluetooth volume controls now enabled (play/pause will NOT work for now)

I was wondering why GNOME's i10n platform is called "Damned Lies"?

I searched and I only found a link to "Lies, damned lies, and statistics" article on Wikipedia. After understanding the context a bit, I wasn't sure about the link between this and the localisation web app, so I asked in the @gnome I18n room on Matrix, and Alexandre generously explained it. Since there was no online explanation, I wrote a post about it on my blog. Hope it helps.

Btw: kudos for this go to @bg443 – who runs an independent builder (i.e. Ben is not a member of IzzyOnDroid himself, but his builder covers several of our apps. So it's verifying our builders are telling the truth, so to say).

So while IoD takes the APKs directly from the devs, our builders verify they were indeed built from the source code the devs claim to – while independents like Ben verify we're not "cheating". The winners are YOU :awesome:

We have added many updates to the BT Speak users’ manual. This third edition reflects the BT Speak’s new streamlined menus but also includes many other additions, including more on using the editor and the file browser.
The manual is included in the latest BT Speak update under Options, Help, Guides and Tutorials, the Users’ Manual. Like the previous editions, it provides extensive heading navigation, allowing you to easily move across chapters and subsections.
The manual is also available as a markdown file on our Web site’s Guides and Media page.

this week I found out that when you start the Debian Linux instaler with speech, and it detects multiple soundcards, it cycles between them and you can press enter to choose the one that actually works. Most installers just pick a random soundcard and send speech through it. Maybe it picks the internal speakers, maybe it picks the digital output that has nothing hooked up to it. If you can't hear your machine, you'll have no idea the installer started, and good luck switching soundcards after that. As far as I know, the Windows installer certainly doesn't have a soundcard selection for narrator.
This would never be a problem with Debian installations because it will just keep cycling through the soundcards until the speech becomes audible. I know we all love to hate on Linux accessibility, but sometimes the thought that goes into the design of the simplest things is really quite impressive. This is also very on-brand for Linux and I'm definitely here for it.
At the time when this happened, I was on a call with Aira and had forgotten to turn up my speakers, so I know the machine displays a "Press enter to select device 1", "Press enter to select device 2..." prommpt, but I can't 100% confirm that the speech follows along. It seems like a safe assumption though, and at some point I'll do a proper test with multiple outputs and make a recording.
