It snew. It has snown. The ground is snawn upon. ❄️❄️ This ties a record for the fourth heaviest snowfall we've gotten here. The tie for this happened in 1880. I think a couple people in the neighborhood are trying to repurpose leafblowers as snowblowers. I have no idea if that'll work or not but even if it does and they can get their cars out, the roads are not magically clear of snow.

Si par malheur demain au volant de ma voiture j'écrasais accidentellement 2 enfants, alors j'améliorerais le PIB par habitant de la France :
- les réparations de ma voiture iraient accroître le numérateur
- les 2 décès diminueraient le dénominateur

Il est grand temps de passer à des indicateurs plus pertinents pour mesurer la "richesse" d'un pays.

#fosdem was cool! I attended a single day, spent it all chatting with cool folks who wanted to know more about #XMPP and its gateways such as slidge.im
As the "bridges guy", it was my duty to socialize with our neighbours @matrix and @delta - we have different opinions on which tech is better, but our goals are aligned: long live federated self-hostable chat protocols! No need to FUD each other.

@social @larma @signalapp @dino I don't see myself integrating any wasm plugins. But using the format from that XEP to communicate that we are using the well known OpenPGP and the well known MIME is something we could do.

No promises on whether this is something I want to ship to end users. But I'm going to tinker around with OpenPGP (And OX) anyway. And I also have some experience with MIME.

OK. Lets kick off #Movuary for this year. #ableton Move is a groovebox which can do a lot. @BorrisInABox came up with an idea to post a track made with Ableton Move every day in february and call it #Movuary. So, me @FreakyFwoof and others joined in and here we are, second year round. January is a cold dark and in general bad month so I kick it off with a darker tune.a

Relaisserver sind großartig, um Inhalte in deinem Server zu verbreiten, besonders für kleine Server - stimmt! Entsprechend würde ich nach dem Tod von gup.pe gerne ein Nachrichten-Relais aufsetzen, welches Beiträge mit #​Brettspiele auf kleinen Instanzen sichtbar macht.
Nur: Wo finde ich eine Anleitung, was nach Festsetzung des Kontotyps zu tun ist? Und wieso kann ein Relais-Konto keinem anderen Relais-Konto folgen? Hier erscheint neuerdings die Fehlermeldung

Dies scheint ein Relais-Konto zu sein. Diese können nicht von Nutzern gefolgt werden.

@Oliver @Tealk Relaisserver und Kanalrelais sind zwei unterschiedlichen Sachen. Kanalrelais sind Nutzerkonnten reposten nur Beiträge die anhand eines Filters auf den der Instanz bekannten Seiten finden. Also normaler User kannst du diesen Kanalrelais folgen. Aber die Instanz selber kann den Kanalrelais nicht folgen.

Kanalrelais kann, wenn es der Admin erlaubt, eine User selber anlegen. Relaisserver kann aber nur der Admin hinzufügen damit die Instanz von denen Beiträge bekommt oder sie weiterverteilen.

It was open source for a while until he close sourced it for some reason. I have no idea what state the source is in, I just remember grabbing it thinking I bet it'll be useful some day when he pulls the source off gh.
I can tell you the date I got the zzip from github was 6/16/2018
So if someone wants to be a hero and revive flicktype let me know and I'll send the archive.

It's convenient to think that boycotts don't work because then we can just keep buying whatever we want. But boycotts often do work. As recently as a few months ago pressure was put on Disney for suspending Jimmy Kimmel. There's a much longer history of successful boycotts. Ever heard of Rosa Parks?

Of course, #Apple is HUGE. Even more reason to stop giving them all the money. No one forces you to buy a new iPhone every other year or subscribe to AppleTV.

If Apple-focused YouTubers and podcasters are actually fed up and as disgusted as they often profess to their audiences, they should step over the line and actually call for a boycott. There's no shortage of reasons at this point. Start naming specific grievances, list them out. Repeat them. And use the word boycott over and over.

Move on from criticism. If ever there was a time for #tech media folk to actually take a stand, 2026 is that time. Passive "reporting" helps #Apple. Do better.

If you're an #Apple user that doesn't like Tim Cook's fascist booklicking and if you've seen enough of Apple's increasingly fucked up conduct, stop giving them your money.

- Stop using Apple subscription services like Music, AppleTV, etc
- Move your data out of iCloud. Start gradually, find other services (YES, they do exist) and gradually downgrade your iCloud plan.
- Stop upgrading hardware. Use what you have until it no longer works. You don't need the latest, greatest new thing.

It is great to see so many examples of blind people meeting our own software needs lately. Thanks for the work you're putting in.
Do you have any estimate for when you will create a Windows installer? I know several people who would love to play, but even extracting a zip file into a folder and running the executable from there is beyond their comfort zone.
Same question for Fast SM, who I would mention but auto-complete appears broken in that client at the moment...

My thought, as a technical user, was it's one binary, they can just grab it and put it somewhere, but I understand that lots of users are used to just running a setup program and then the software works, so I'll definitely get to it. Because a LOT of people are missing the point:

No, Elon Musk is NOT serious about putting a million data centres into orbit. It can't work: laws of physics say "nope".

But SpaceX is expected to go public this year.

Elon is talking up his company's future prospects in front of gullible investors because he needs a growth narrative beyond Starlink, which is already priced in. Something to justify the Starship proram beyond NASA's lunar ambitions.

So it's salesman's bullshit, lies for fools.
