AI assistants have been widely available for a little more than a year, and they already have access to our most private thoughts and business secrets. People ask them about becoming pregnant or terminating or preventing pregnancy, consult them when considering a divorce, seek information about drug addiction, or ask for edits in emails containing proprietary trade secrets. The providers of these AI-powered chat services are keenly aware of the sensitivity of these discussions and take active steps—mainly in the form of encrypting them—to prevent potential snoops from reading other people’s interactions.
But now, researchers have devised an attack that deciphers AI assistant responses with surprising accuracy. The technique exploits a side channel present in all of the major AI assistants, with the exception of Google Gemini. It then refines the fairly raw results through large language models specially trained for the task. The result: Someone with a passive adversary-in-the-middle position—meaning an adversary who can monitor the data packets passing between an AI assistant and the user—can infer the specific topic of 55 percent of all captured responses, usually with high word accuracy. The attack can deduce responses with perfect word accuracy 29 percent of the time.
From an accessibility perspective, I wouldn’t be so dismissive.
A contrast accessibility calculator shows that concerns about color contrast go beyond personal taste. (edit: looks like this will be addressed, acc. to a follow-up post).
Elements like links violate WCAG 2.2 SC 1.4.1: Use of color by using color alone to distinguish meaning, which is especially problematic here since the first links are also headings; making them bold and colored seems to rightly suggest a heading but not a link. A visual distinction that specifically suggests a link, such as an underline, would fix this.

You need to find a specific Unicode character? With Shapecatcher.com you can search through a database of characters by simply drawing your character into a box. It can find the most similar character shapes for your drawing.
I haven't delved much into the library that powers the recognition, but it should be possible to adapted it to other symbols. Alternative, there are also similar libraries for normal handwriting.
How good the results are, depends on how good the dataset is.
I think it's a great idea for getting started and prototyping stuff, but as a C developer I don't want write python and then convert it to C to actually use it :)
I'm not sure how workbench works internally but maybe something like bellard.org/tcc/ could bring C into the mix? But then of course I'd want my custom libraries and widgets and stuff too which would make things even more confusing.
@grimmy C support could be added pretty easily. And would be a good addition for the Library which is sort of a Rosetta Stone for GNOME.
Importing libraries and stuff is probably out of scope but hopefully we'll bring the live preview to GNOME Builder. Then it's just a matter of copy pasting C examples there.
I need to give GNOME Builder another try soon. Last time I was struggling with difference from sublime text and found myself having to write a number of plugins which is of course keeping me from working on the stuff I should be working on.
The one I remember struggling with the most was trying to add mercurial support and not being able to follow through the git plugin at all. That said this was like 2 years ago or so.
generally speaking a live preview doesn't tend to work for me except during prototyping. There's too much runtime dependent state in @pidgin to do live previews in most cases.
@pidgin Yeah that'd be awesome. That said we worked around this in Pidgin by creating a "Demo" protocol that gives us more control over the state of the connection and therefore the app.
Ironically, that was originally created to have data that was always safe to use in screenshots (a problem that's plagued us for a long time) but then it grew into a prototyping/demo tool as well 🤣

I've played around with Workbench a little bit. - Syntax highlighting is a bit lacking, for example, functions and custom types are not highlighted. (Though this is also the case with GNOME Builder and Text Editor, so not Workbench specific?) - Workbench is not (fully) adaptive. There might not be much point in making it adaptive or it might be difficult / impossible, but would still be cool if it was :)

So now, software nerd that I am, I'm curious about whether they rolled their own audio player or used an off-the-shelf one, and how they're handling DRM on the PC. This might actually give me a reason to use NLS for the first time in like 20 years.
@matt I do not know for certain, but I am assuming that it is a player that they made themselves since it has all of the controls that the mobile version has, plus each control has a hotkey. As far as DRM, I would assume that it can only play NLS books since it is built into the Bard Express software.

VRR finally landed! Can't wait to not have to keep updating mutter-vrr from the AUR to enjoy games on GNOME! GNOME's VRR implementation has been way better than KDE's in my experience using the patched mutter.
..still no mouse driven, simple add a desktop App icon? till you learn this .. remain banished in the paleolithic, no deployment, till you you can demonstrate basic userland concepts . . . (without jammin' your mandatory 'efficiency' #BS work flow agenda down my neck, how the f___ do you know what I need??
