I am a university student who originally planned to double major in computer science and elementary education, but I’ve recently faced some concerns that I’d like to address.
I’ve been told that pursuing a teaching certification might not be advisable because schools may be reluctant to hire a teacher with low vision, who is mostly blind, to manage a classroom of thirty or more students. This has been quite upsetting.
My dream was to work with elementary students, focusing on #STEM subjects and teaching technology-related topics like understanding tech, its role in the world, and the basics of programming. Now, I find myself uncertain about what path to take.
Working with kids, especially those in elementary school, is my biggest passion, even more than tech or music. It’s something that would truly fulfill me. Since I can’t have kids myself, guiding and teaching young learners is the next best thing. It’s a career I’m committed to and want to excel in.
Being advised not to pursue a teaching certification and to focus solely on computer science has been quite discouraging. I’ve been told to study elementary education as a secondary focus and combine it with my computer science studies. This might involve developing educational systems for kids, but it would likely mean limited direct interaction, possibly just during product testing, which isn’t enough for me.
So, I have a few questions:
1. Are there any educators with #Blindness or #LowVision challenges working with elementary students? If so, in what capacity do you work with them? 2. How has your disability affected your effectiveness in the field? 3. What challenges did you face in getting certified and qualified, and how did you overcome them? 4. What obstacles have you encountered in the classroom and with colleagues, and how have you addressed them?
If these questions don’t apply, what advice can you offer me in pursuing my goal of working with children? While tech is a focus, I’m open to being flexible, as long as it’s an area I’m confident in.
Finally, if teaching isn’t possible for me, what other career paths would you suggest that align with my goals?
I’d really appreciate any support and engagement in this discussion.

I have now configured my mail server to provide an MTA-STS policy for inbound message encryption. I already had DANE set up, but some providers only use MTA-STS. The only real difficulty I encountered was that my SMTP server needed to present the entire certificate chain to mail senders; otherwise, some of them (Google, at least) would fail to verify the certificate. #SMTP #MailServer

@jscholes @DavidGoldfield I’ve been quite critical of language lately, but I don’t think I would object to the term blindspot! In the same way as I don’t subject to the term turning a blind eye both of them are descriptive a phenomenon which is all about not being able to see which is actually what blind this is as well!
Hi. The issue is that "turning a blind eye" to something doesn't mean that you can't see something. It means that you can actually see something, a thing that's usually harmful or problematic in some way, but you're deliberately choosing to ignore it and look the other way. It's the same reason why I dislike it when people similarly use the expression "a deaf ear" to things they'd rather not have to listen to.

Na jaře jsem za něj platil 15 euro. Ale je dotažený po všech stránkách (UI, UX, platformy a integrace do aplikací třetích stran), takže nic neřešíš a jenom ho používáš. Za půl roku nepoužívání jsem okamžitě viděl pokrok.
A obsahuje mraky cvičení — sice jsem teď potřeboval najet hodně kilometrů (aby mi na zítřejší chladnou venkovní jízdu zbylo pouhých 25 kiláků do letošních deseti litrů), ale pak hodlám jezdit právě intervaly apod., což je něco, co mi zdejší okolí svým profilem neumožní.
@pavelkout Tak ona je to zatím beta, určitě to tam přidají. Pořád je TP, jeden z nejlepších tréninkových deníků. Jiinak od března to bude součástí placené verze TrainingPeaks.

One of the worst misfeatures of #Mastodon from a safety angle: If you get an abusive reply to your post, you can't remove it even by blocking the person. Even after blocking, your server still shows the abusive reply to everyone else.
There has been a patch ready to fix this for 2 years, 6 months, and 1 day. @Gargron has not approved it, and has provided *zero* explanation for why he will not allow it to be merged.
This is about the server not returning known subthreads started by people blocked by the post's author, not the viewer.

Can you give me more advice on what you've done with Braille? I think hearing about this will maybe make me use it more, although it sadln doesn't work with my work application. @EdenLinnea I know we tested with several multi-line Braille displays, but the key is "using a multi-line braille display via HID braille." - as long as you are using HID, it should work on any multi-line display. HID is a newer Braille protocol which is intended to work a bit like "Plug and play" does for other devices in Windows - basically you should be able to use any device (which supports HID) without needing to install specific drivers for that device - just as you can with keyboards.
@EdenLinnea There's really no reason for a manufacturer to come out with a device these days which does NOT support HID. Offhand I don't know if there are any multi-line devices which don't , but if you have a particular device (or have one you are considering), I can certainly find out.

One of the giant features of #webxdc app developments is precisely that no store is needed. You can just write an index.html, a .js file and pack into a zip file and everyone can use this as an app in their chats, no store needed for permission and distribution.
