Hey #Fediverse! @Seirdy has a 'forever' article: A look at search engines with their own indexes
One thing this article should remind you all about: there are three dominant #search indexes - Google, Bing, and Yandex. And Yandex is dominant outside of English.
But there are real options, and many of them are open source, especially for outside the commercial internet. (I am partial to the MarginaliaSearch project.)

Ugh, so they want people to not use BSD sockets at all, and instead use the Network.framework API.
Is it safe to say that porting curl to use anything but BSD sockets would be extremely hard?
I don’t think sockets are the future of networking for a few reasons:
- They mostly assume that the network stack is in the kernel, but some platforms (iOS, watchOS) are moving it into userspace.
- They have fundamental performance limits. On Linux the most efficient networking API is io_uring, not BSD sockets.
Good thing the #Apple App Store is secure, it would be a shame if the #DigitalMarketsAct allowed alternative platforms to set up shop and start pushing fake software to #iOS devices...

Here is a study being done of adult neopronoun users.
tumblr.com/allthingslinguistic…
You'll get paid USD$15 for the interview. Filling out the form is just expressing interest, you can still decline the interview. They're also asking if you have a friend or "buddy" they can interview, as in they'll be asking questions about you I presume. You must be fluent in English.
Looks like the person conducting the study is a "cool" linguist who's done other neat studies that someone goes on to link to in the thread I've linked above. :3
I technically use neopronouns, so I might fill out the form to express interest, though I'm uncertain who I would reference as a "buddy" for them to interview too. But that might not be necessary.

We are positively overwhelmed with the outpouring of support 🚀
People are responding to our call for help! We've also had a number of smaller organizations show up and begin the process of becoming supporting members.
This is encouraging progress, though we still have a lot of work to do to hit our fundraising goals.
